The air fryer does work.... u have to add a silicone mug wrap to hold the image in place.... hope this helps you all
I shall only refer to it as a mug fryer from now on 🥰😹
Lol
A tip : you can watch movies at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
Funny!
Hubs is a ceramic engineer. We watched this. His only concern would be the chemicals in the inks. He is concerned once you use the air fryer, or even an oven would work, as it gets to the proper temps, that you would create a toxic environment for food. This way is much cheaper, but he said he would dedicate the air fryer to just mugs and never, ever make food in it again.
Common sense tells you that once something is used for crafting it is dedicated to crafting and no longer for food service.
This is one thing I was wondering. I don't think I will try it in the family airfryer. Oh hang on I just bought a new airfryer so I have an old one in the garage. Might give it a go. Lol
Anything used for sublimation-whether an air fryer, convection oven, or standard oven- can't be used for food because the gas seeps into them and it would get into into food.
@@toriboone1828 And likewise, the gas seeps even more so into the mug, so never ever drink out of it!
I thought about that as well. It would have to be a dedicated air fryer.
Excellent comparison! I’ve noticed Cricut is snagging UA-cam crafters with their products. I don’t blame them; it’s savvy business, but it’s starting to feel like we are being manipulated by big business.
Hello, what does "Snagging UA-cam crafters" mean? Do you mean taking them away from their own youtube platform and turning it into a Cricut platform?
Mike: it means Cricut has reached out to UA-cam crafters and offered them Cricut products for no charge if they will demonstrate the product on their channel. It’s hard to turn down.
This is a great idea.
2 questions?
1) what kind of tape do you use to hold the ink in place?
2) can you stand the mug up in the air fryer?
Thank you very much!!! I have an air fryer that I didn't fall in love with and I had broke the handle. It is fairly new but since I broke the handle I stopped using it. Now I have a new life for it. It did break my heart buying it and not using it. I'm ecstatic and ready to try .
I’d like to see sublimation done in the air fryer using the shrink wrap and also with the silicone sublimation wraps you can get..I think it would work a lot better and closer to the mug press..I’ve also seen it done in a household oven with the shrink wrap..
My thoughts exactly. I will look for air fryer tests using sublimation silicone wraps. Or maybe someone has commented here about their experience with the wraps.
I've used the silicon wraps and a convection oven. Transfer was crisp, clear, and even. I would use a convection oven over an air-fryer as you'll also be able to larger items.
I also use a convection oven ... 400 ° @ 10 to 12 minutes with the silicone wrap & butcher paper.... and my mugs come out perfect.....
Is there a video how to do a mug in a convection oven? My regular oven is a convection oven.
What about a microwave that operates as a convection oven?
Would love a video too!
@@barbaraglennon1855 you can’t do sublimation in an oven that’s used for foods. The gases given off are toxic.
@@budgets4arainyday547 the mugs are in there with the toxic fumes and we can still drink from them… wouldn’t it make sense that you could clean the oven and still use it to cook…?
Scoot those chicken nuggets over and make room for that mug! Dinner and crafting at the same time in one cooker. That's serious multitasking! 🤣
😂
Next month she can demonstrate mugs and spring rolls. Spring rolls and mugs. Good idea or very scary?
I would not recommend using the same air fryer for mug making and food making. There are probably fumes released when you heat up mugs and infusible ink that you wouldn’t want in food.
😂😂😂 perfect combo for a stomach of a robot lol!
Yeah I would not use the same air fryer for food. Sublimation inc is toxic
I was thinking the same thing, I see people using things in their primary oven that really should not do. Stands to reason that you wouldn’t want to put food in it after using it for crafting.
FYI: For the air fryer you need to use a shrink wrap pouch to give the needed pressure the Infusible ink/sublimation ink needs.🙋🏻♀️💜tfs
Thanks for this. I agree with you- I don’t care for the full wraps. Most people won’t buy the air fryer just for making mugs but probably already have one so it’s a no cost win!
Yes!!!!
ditto, I got a ronco air fryer plenty of room, and i happen to have joy ink transfers just need sublimation cup, but i could have sworn i saw a video that stated you could use regular mugs also. But don't quote me on it.
Have seen really decent air fryers at the thrift store for less than $20. I will get one for this next time I see it
just make sure you don't cook food with the air fryer if you're planning to use it for mugs. the inks would release toxic chemicals
@@honeyyeyes You wont be able to use the mugs either then.
Holy cow it worked!! It's perfect! I just tapes the edges all around and it was fine
Well done!🙂
I do this in my air fryer. I purchased some silicone wraps to hold the ink down better than the tape. I "cook" my mugs at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
What wraps did you get?
Would cut up silpat mats work?
Do you also cook food in it? Doesn’t seem safe
@@KentuckyKrafter I don’t think I would cook food in mine after. Chemical contamination may be a thing.
Are your results better using the higher temp?
Now how to sneak the air fryer back into the house. I told my husband that I was selling it to reduce kitchen clutter. Lol
Right, I was about to give mine to my niece. Guess she'll have to continue using her smaller one.
@@pvir9902 lmao. But we had good intentions, right?!
@@jenahammond111 exactly. Lol
It won’t count as kitchen clutter. It will be craft room clutter now!
NOW GIRL YOU KNOW THAT A DEMO TEST HAS GOT TO BE DONE LIVE.
Omg this is amazing! I have an old airfryer in my basement from when I upgraded to a bigger one. I am totally going to try this!
Hope you enjoy it!
9:11 lol the cutest! That’s what I’m going to start calling my AirFryer hehe
I caught that too.
So I tried the air fryer method because I cannot justify $199 or a machine that does just one thing. I bought an air fryer at the thrift store today for $15.99 (so I can dedicate it only to mugs) and it worked! I actually used a sublimation cup from Michaels, used my infusible ink markers on 24lb copy paper, taped it up good and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much for this information.
YOU WHAT !!!! I CAN'T BELIVE YOU GUY'S HOW CREATIVE, I LOV IT.
Glad you loved it!!
Wow, you guys sure think outside the Cricut box! I like it.
Thank you SO much!😊
WOW! who would have thought to use an air fryer to sublimate mugs! genius! Thank you for sharing!
Right?! You're so welcome!
Those who unliked this video are people who bought the cricut mug press - before - seeing this video ! 🤣
I thumbs up because I was about to buy the cricut mug press LOL!!!
😂😂😂😂😂
@@sharonhill5246 it may have limitations but if you already have an air fryer, don’t want to initially spend the $200 for a mug press or not knowing if you will use a mug press enough to offset the cost, it is a great alternative.
@@richardlynngarst3728 I so agree!! If your only wanting to make a mug or 2 or a few more, not a constant flow of mugs. Then the air fryer is the ticket. Personally I'm not spending $200 on a mug press to use limitedly. My air fryer I can do tumblers or even plates. Don't think a mug press can do plates or large tumblers.
@The Side Hustler Actually, I have done 30oz tumblers, and figured out how to do the tapered tumblers and wine tumblers. It's trial and error, but you are definitely not limited to 11 to 16oz coffee mugs.
This is pretty cool. So is it like the toaster oven, once you use it for a cup you can no longer use it for food?
I love my Convection oven for Sublimating!
Yay!
Can’t you also just use your oven then? Or does it have to be convection?
That mug press is $649 in New Zealand where I live, but my air fryer cost $70… I know what I’ll be trying!
I've never clicked so fast. 🤣💕💕💕
Yay! Thank you for watching!😀
@@MakersGonnaLearn Now you all should try a convection oven for mugs and for 20 oz Skinny tumblers.
From what I have seen when using an air fryer or convection oven you should be using a shrink wrap sleeve as th sir fryer uses air bursts so if not wrapped with the shrink wrap it can cause that botching. I would like to see you test it that way with the air fryer.
You would be able to do a full wrap on a coffee mug in the air fryer if you use a silicone wrap with the air fryer you do need that pressure so the wrap give it to you excellent video I’ve been debating about the cricut mug press I’m still not sure
Cricut was way tooo late coming to the game on this. Great idea I’ve not heard of before! Air fryer! Thank you for the great info and video!
Like the idea of Air Fryer. I happen to have a large air fryer with rack. The mugs could stand up. I could fit Latte mugs in mine. Do you think it would work better if the mug is standing up.
yes
I already have been using mine for tumblers!
This is the greatest channel ever. I luv your videos. Hmmmm can we use HTV and put our mug i to an air fryer.?????? Lol. Promise l wont use tooo much salt 😂. Excited to hear if it will work. Thank you so much for sharing all your experiments. ❤️❤️🇨🇦
Good question?
If not using an actual heat press, it's best to use either a silicone wrap or heat shrink wrappers (both sold on Amazon) to keep the design tight for best sublimation transfer.
Watching this video makes me glad that I bought the mug press even though it’s more expensive. It’s easier to use with no guess work. Thank you for testing it out as it made me feel more confident that I made the right decision in purchasing the mug press.
Thank you for watching!
I was hoping you’d show us how much tape you used. That’s a vital part of this specific video.
How about using a sublimation mug wrap in the air fryer as you do in a convection oven
I saw a guy use shrink wrap and I was wondering if it would work in the air fryer too.
I’m trying the silicone mug wrap next.
An air fryer is just a small convection oven so anything you can do in a convection oven you can do in an air fryer...
This was a great video!! Way to be creative ❤️❤️😂 I love MGL
Thank you SO much!!
What if I used the sublimation silicone wrap around the mug, it would work better when using the air fryer? Getting a convection oven is the same thing. I going to get an air fryer from thrift store and try out. Wanted another mug press but the cost stopped me. thanks!
When you use a mug clamp to wrap around your mug after applying the ink sheet, the pressure is all around and your designs will be flawless!
This is crazy awesome Rachel! Who thought an AIR FRYER could be used for this! 😂. As always, GEART video/tutorial!
Glad you enjoyed it, Mary Ann! Thank you for watching!🙂
Also get a toaster oven shaped air fryer with even two racks u can do longer n wider mugs tumblers n poss multiple at same time if u get one w racks
The videos doing sublimation- or infusible ink - in Toaster ovens recommend having a separate toaster oven mugs - not doing food and mugs in the same one- because of the toxic gassing emitted.
Do you think that’s a concern with the air fryer too?
I was wondering this also
Yes..would not use for food if you use for sublimation.
You are right. The Air Fryer once used for mugs...it should never be used for food.
Has anyone tried the VEVOr single mug press it looks very similar to the cricut one but you don’t need to clamp it down. Good for people with arm or neck issues so I’ve heard
I have a ninja foodie air fryer and im sure i could fit the mugs standing up but i wonder if that would help but i gotta be honest im concerned about heating up something like ink or synthetic materials where i heat my food
I just saw a comment saying that if you use it for doing the mugs, not to use it for food after that!
Thanks
Im really thankful, and happy for this video. I am in Australia, and we wont be able to buy the mug press here for at least another 4-6 months, so, I’m definitely keen on trying the air fryer.. thank you :).
You're so welcome!!
I loved this!!!! Maybe try a Air Fryer Oven?
I have that exact air fryer. Waiting for my Cricut to arrive. Just purchase the membership.
So exciting, welcome welcome!
Wow Y’all Go Above And Beyond To Show Use Different Ways To use Different Items Love This Video ❤️‼️❤️‼️❤️😀
So glad you loved it!🙂 Thank you so much!
Thank You for sharing your experience and thoughts!!
I am new at using Circut, and I’m not confident.
I have a large Air Fryer and I would like to make about 10-15 mugs. I’m not sure how to get my Logo to work on my Curcut to where I can use it… If you have any suggestions or advice please let me know.
Thank You for your time and patience… I’m in Kansas ♥️♥️
Great video. Glad I got the mug press so I can do all kinds of designs and they always turn out great. No guessing with the temp and time. Thank you very much Rachel!!!
💜🌺🌸💜🌺🌸💜🌺🌸💜🌺🌸
Anytime Lorraine! Thank you for watching!
Can you just set the mug in there right side up so you don't have to turn it over? Or is it so the heat from above hits one side then the other? I have a 10 quart mug fryer so I want to try to do more than one at a time. 😁
you could use a silicone wrap to apply the pressure.
I use a silicole wrap and a toaster oven.
if the airfryer is large enough for the must to stand, would the results be better?
This is what I was thinking...
Can you use the shrink wrap on the mugs that are used in sublimation?
Toaster oven with air fry option works well for me. Plus the toaster oven allows mug, tumblers of most sizes and other substrates. The only thing you need to do is shop for price and size as factors.
Please tell me more :)
@@domesticgoddess5339 Hamilton Beach toaster oven with airfry option. model number 31193/series A3602CE. I have done 3 20oz tumblers at a time ans several mugs. I use shrink wrap on the tumblers and painters tape and heat tape on the mugs. DO NOT USE FOR FOOD AFTER USING IT FOR THESE CRAFTS.
@@jpmangen thank you so much! I'm just beginning to get Into this more. What do you use shrink wrap for? Sorry for all the questions :)
@@domesticgoddess5339 Instead of wrapping the items with painters tape you use shrink wrap to hold the sublimation on the blank with greater amount of pressure. Do a search for tumblers and shrink wrap to see how its done.
@@jpmangen you rock! Thanks for being patient and answering my questions :)
Also, wonder if you could do more mugs at once on lowest rack in an Air Fryer Oven.....has removable racks that would not require laying mugs on its side/flipping.....I would think (looking at mine) you could fit 3-4 mugs in the AFO at one time
So the short mug doesn't fit standing in the fryer? Kinda funny that someone thought of this. Thank you the price is what made me say noway on the mugpress. Interesting review. 😁
I had the same question. I would think that the mug would stand upright.
I'm wondering how a silicone mug wrap or sublimation shrink wrap would do in the air fryer.
been using an air fryer for months its great, i do full wrap designs and get full colour penetration
use a silcone wrap n a remount spray not tape :)
200c 9 mins , turn at 4 n a half min your welcome
@@kg291 is there a video demo of this process anywhere?
What about trying silicone mug wraps in the air fryer. I’ve seen others use them in toaster oven vs Cricut 😃
If we have a larger air fryer can we just stand it upright? Just checking. 😊
I was wondering that too
Yes
What about the Instapot with air fryer lid?
why didn't you actually do one in the air fryer? just either speed up the 3 min wait or just edit it out? I would've liked to see how you did it (you may have said why but I was shuttling ahead to see when you actually did the demonstration and never saw one.)
I was looking too but she did do a "this is how" demo starting at 17:18 without the heat.
@@dawnbrown258 Thank You, I will go check it out!
As a way to save tape, have you tried taking a food can, cutting out the bottom and slitting it up the side and using it, kind of how rings are used with pistons?
I'd be curious to see the results with a silicone sleeve wrapped around the mug
I have a different type of air fryer. If i'm able to stand my mug, do I still need to rotate?
I have a couple questions for anyone who knows!!! (1) what makes it a "sublimation" mug? Will it work on any white mug? (2) if I use the silicone wraps do I still need to flip it over? And or if I use an air fryer that can stand the mug up.... Will the silicone wrap help the sublimation ink to adhere evenly??? I'm new to sublimation by new I mean I'm watching videos and never tried it yet. I'm in the research and buy stuff phase. Lol thanks for the help! 💖💖💖
A special coating is added to mugs to make them soak up the ink! No mug will work, only sublimation mugs. Yes a silicone wrap will help!
Is it still safe to use your air fryer for food if you have used it for mug pressing??
I use shrink wrap sleeves and a convection oven (basically a nice toaster oven)
Cute or not, I feel like the Circuit press way too pricey considering the fact that in order to use your own personal designs, you have to do as much to the mug as if you were using a regular mug press with a handle. Not to mention if you don't register the thing, it won't work. Plus with the free designs, imagine how many people have the same mugs for sale. On Etsy I immediately know who using it.
Awesome video.
Can you use the airfrier to make food after you make a mug?
I wondered the same thing
Me too. ???
I wouldn't chance it. It really wouldn't be food safety after cooking ink in it.
I don't think so. Too many toxic chemicals...I would dedicate it to food or crafts, but not interchangable.
This is amazing! Thank you for this video.
You're so welcome!🙂
I wonder how it would work if you set the mug in the air fryer standing up and flipped it on end. Or if you used an air fryer/toaster over that is bigger (using it on air fryer setting, of course!)....
Y'all are great!! Love watching your videos!!
Thank you SO much!!😊
Hi!! Thank you for the video, I wonder if a regular kitchen oven can do the job too?? Pls let me know! Thanks
Read all the comments. Some people have tried that, with success.
Hi, I just wondered if you had placed the mug in the air fryer in an upright vs. a side lay position and, if so, was there any difference? Thanks, Lynne
The air fryer would probably work even better if you could 3D print a small piece to hold the mug from rolling around and slightly off the bottom. I'll have to work on that. Thanks for the informative video, I never knew you could ever use an air fryer for this!
YESSS THE MUG FRYER🤣🤣 IM HERE FOR IT!
Wait!?!? What!?!? Freaking amazing!!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Just wondering can you use the silicone wraps you can get for around the mugs in the air fryer?
Yes.
Mind blown 🤯🤯🤯🤯, and I have 2 air fryers!!!
Do u have to seal it afterwards in the fryer?
Can the mug not be stood up in the air fryer? Can your AF be used for food after this? Do you have a “hot to” video on making a mug in the AF?? So many questions!!!
I'm so glad I haven't gotten rid of my air fryer!!!

Can u do pictures on a mug with out Sublimation I’m looking to start doing mugs
Would like to see a fully wrapped mug out of the mug press side by side with the air fry mug.
OMG I'm so excited to try this!
Yay!!
U can use tumblers in the mug press just flip it over to do each end
Wow.. my husband was just talking about the last time we used our air fryer..if I said I wanted to use it for crafts, I think he would commit me... lol ours is a larger one, and top opens with a basket inside. Once you use it for crafts, CAN'T use it again for food..correct? Thanks for sharing..
Yes your right, it would not be food safe after using Infusible ink.
@@sandimcdowall8711 thanks for replying back..have a great day!
Time for a new food air fryer😋
Can this be done on stainless steel sublimation tumblers?
Can I ask why you didn't stand the mug up in the air fryer? Do you think that might work better?
I love really wide mugs - what kind of method would I use for something like that if the mug press or air fryer won't work?
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
can you use water drinking cups does it have to be a mug
These are special mugs coated with polyester. Regular cups will not work unless they have a sublimination coating.
I need that fur mama mug. 😍
WOW ....Who knew? I have a Pampered Chief air fryer and it is very large. Would I be able to use it standing up the mug?
Have you tried this in DAF? Would you do it and still cook in it? I see someone comment about chemicals in af and you should not do food in it after. But I have crafts done in oven and you still cook?!
Oh this is awesome!! I was given an air fryer a while ago and I think this would be cool to try!!! Thank you for this video!!!
Have you tried the convention oven with the wraps or the shrink wraps for Sublimation?
