Visiting Split Croatia in the off-season, what's it like?? 🇭🇷🦐

- We enjoyed two weeks in the lovely coastal city of Split, Croatia! The old town mixes modern with historical and feels so unique and full of charm. We had a wonderful time doing a food tour and trying the local cuisine of “Dalmatia” (what this region of Split is called). The weather was phenomenal and the crowds weren’t too bad at all as we visited in late March/early April. We absolutely loved walking through all the ancient windy streets, spending time down by the Riva (boardwalk), and finding some really cool Airbnbs! Definitely put Split on your travel list, just try to head there in the off-season to avoid how crowded it can get in the summer months.

Is Split on your travel list? If you’ve been before, did we miss anything? Are there any other places in Croatia we should visit if we head back later this year?

Thanks for the fun and informative video. To visit croatia and slovenia in early October so I'm doing my research now.
I drank some of the best wine ever in Croatia, I was blown away by Croatian wines and later learnt their wines have won numerous world gold medals
Not surprised at all by this! We didn't have a wine we didn't like 🍷👏.
some of the most famous grapes are originally from croatia like zinfandel
Yes :) Zinfandel is from the Austrian Empire times, that is why its name is so different, but originally from the current Croatian land.
Probably a Slovenian wine :D
Relaxing off season 😎👍
I did Split in the off-season too! I was sad to miss out on the on-season activities like boat rides. But it was lovely. And the rando drinks were a treat.
Oh heyyyyyyy, friend! Love that you got to see Split at a quieter time too. The rando parts of travel are definitely becoming our faves 👍👍👍!
I was glad to find your review of "off season" as my daughter and her friend want to go to Split for spring break their senior yr of HS. I figured there would be less people, lines, etc and that's very appealing and the weather looks pretty decent too. I've been to Zagreb and some places on the coast in the summer and it was brutal. Also really glad to find you guys and subscribe. Y'all are fun people and your dad joke-esque senses of humor are right in my wheelhouse!
Split a great city
🤣🤣 your description of flying with a budget airline is spot on! I’m really enjoying following your adventures. I’m warming myself up to travel post COVID so this is really helping. Thank you 🙏
You are so welcome, Lisa! Glad to be sharing what travel is like right now and excited for you to feel comfy traveling again (on Ryan's airline, where you can pay $8 if you want to use your right leg on your flight 😉😂).
Great videos. I think you described Split perfectly. I’ve been twice and love it too. Loved the air b & b’s you showed.
Thanks so much, Susan! 🥰 So glad you enjoyed this one and that we did a good job of capturing the vibe and feel of Split 🥳.
Adriatic Coast is indeed one part of the Mediterranean Sea.
Flag B-roll opening ✅
We had a similar experience where our Airbnb host in Zagreb would bring us bottles of home made wine in old coke bottles, so sweet of them :)
Loving your videos too btw!
Hehehe, YAY for noticing the flag opening shots 😉🤗😇! The kindness and love of some Airbnb hosts is truly making this trip for us so worth it. Homemade Croatian wine though?? That's next level, Rebekah! 😱💖 Thanks so much for the kind words, suuuuuper appreciate it!
Fantastic Croatia! You two are very funny.
Hehe, thanks so much! 🥰🥰🥰
Enjoying your travel series. Looking forward to watching your packing follow-up video!
Thanks so much, Tony! 🤗
Really great video J & C ! Love following you along on the exciting travels and food...2 of my favorite things. ✈🍓🥖Thanks!
WOOOT! Yep, travel and food are our faves as well 👏👏👏 (obviously 😂). Thanks for the comment, Liz. 😍
Great video guys! We love following this series. You all travel very much like we do. Looking forward to the packing follow-up. We’re setting out for Europe in September for a couple of months. Can’t wait! Safe travels and keep having fun 🥳
Awwwwwesome to hear you enjoyed this one, Sherri! Thanks for the kind words 🥰. Yay that you're traveling later this year - wahoooo 🥳.
What a cool video format! Great language and balance between you two, so informative and so entertaining. Love it!
Awww, thank you Guilherme! 🥰🥰🥰
this was incredibly helpful!!
YAYYYYYYY! So glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
Love that punny intro. Also -thanks for the local food tour tip!
Hehe, you are welcome for the puns! We keep em coming, lickity-split! 😉😜
Omg i m from croatia the Split is a pretty city
I spent the month of May this year in Split! Loved it! May is still considered “off season”. Great weather, cheaper and not too crowded. My Airbnb was nice but not nearly as nice as yours. I was just 5 mins from the main drag….and very well priced. What gym did you go to cause I couldn’t find a good gym near me? I walked a lot there….the beaches were a bit outside the city but still walkable. I will go back to split and check out your suggestions! Thanks!
Hey Alex! Haha, yeah, the gym we found was a 30-minute walk ONE WAY 🙈. There was not a single gym in Old Town Split. So wild! I guess everyone just... walks? Such a great city and glad to hear it wasn't too busy in May too 👍.
@@WanderingAimfully was your gym the one near their mall? Thanks for reply
Good eye, Split is very fashionable especially woman, and they are proud of it :) And yes Split and coastal part of Croatia is Mediterranean, ie Adriatic sea is part of Mediterranean.
👍👍👍
Split is pretty big city for our mesures, it is the second largest city in Croatia and the capital of the historical province of Dalmatia. You were only inside the old town - Diocletian' s Palace and in Varoš. Split has got 2 00 000 citizens, many neighborhoods, 3 shopping malls ... . Inform yourself better next time.
Great video! What dates were you in Croatia? I'm planning for first 3 weeks of May 2023. Wondering if the water will be warm enough to swim? Thinking I'll avoid the crowds with those dates,
Hi Dianne 👋. Thanks for the kind words and for watching! We were in Split the very end of April and first two weeks of May. The water is verrrrrrrry cold at this time of year, but maybe you'd enjoy that?? 😂🥶 The locals all told us the water isn't really warm until late June, July. Hope you have an awesome trip!
@@WanderingAimfully Swimming is not important to me. Prefer to have less crowds and comfortable temps for exploring. I think May is going to be perfect. Thanks for the reply. :)
What an amazing insight into your time in Split 🇭🇷 I visited Dubrovnik in the high season and the Old Town was SO crowded - it was beautiful still, of course, but I prefer traveling in the off season! Definitely saving the sushi place for when I go to Split and your accommodation choices are stunning 😍 as usual!
Wooooooot! Hope you can make it to Split and go do all the fun things!
Hahaha, that's only old town Split. :D The wider area of Split city is quite large.
Yepppp, you are correct! Sorry we didn't clarify we only really spent time and were talking about Old Town Split 😉.
@@WanderingAimfully It's fine :D Just throwing it in the comments for info. ;D
The whole area from Trogir to Omis could be called an urban agglomerate of Split since it's all connected like there are no clear borders where one city/town end and the other begins.
Great camera work and quality. Maybe more video while you banter? Just my .02 cents.
Thanks for the feedback Joe, really appreciate it! And yep, as we go on this year, we're learning more and more about having LOTS of extra b-roll 💪.
Love how people dress up to go to the cafes or sloppy dressing
