Croats from the island of Brač brought Crljenak mali, better known in America as Zinfandel, to the Napa Valley and Dry Creek Valley area ... only the Americans called him Zinfandel, because Croatia was part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, so they were all "from Austria" This information was told to me by my late father, who had vineyards and a winery in Napa in 1946-1989.This has just been proven, officially a few years ago.The vines was brought in early 19. st to America.
