I am retired and have decided to start traveling Nort America. The first thing I need to do is sell everything and I want to let you know this video is the most informative I have seen yet! You actually get to the point and explain what and how you did it, unlike most of the other vids which are all about the emotional details of letting go and nothing to do with the actual selling. Thank you for being so transparent in how you sold everything!
Super helpful! We are moving to the Netherlands in 6 months! I am super stressed but your video helped me think about it differently (I have been making lists for several weeks). My husband is American, and I am French so I have done this before. I just need to get him on board... 😅
Hi there! I just found this video and you made me laugh so much - thank you 🙂 I subscribed immediately and I'm looking forward to watching more of your content!
Just sold all my items after 10 years in Vancouver 🇨🇦 and only ended up with 1 small bag of trash. The rest was donated, sold or recycled 🏄 Feels good eh!
WOWWWWW! That's incredible, Anna! Like us, you must have felt a ton of different emotions throughout that process. Congrats to you 🥳. Where are you off to?
Looking forward to seeing more of your journey! We're hoping to do something similar, and it's always fun collecting and curating the tips and tricks to make full-time travel a reality! ✈️ 🌎
Awesome! Thank you for the kind words Courtney and Michael 👋. Just watched your Durham video (great job 👏) and it brought back memories as Caroline's 👩🏻🦰first job out of college was in Durham on Tobacco Road! Super fun coincidence!
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched. I’m leaving San Diego to Costa Rica in a month and want to downsize what’s in my storage unit before we leave, so I searched and your video came up first in Google! I like your style and comedy. 😂 I’ll be heading to my storage unit this week with my laptop to create a huge spreadsheet. Thanks! Also, I also have used Buy Nothing Facebook groups to list things for free. It’s amazing what people will pick up!
Just joined OfferUp. Thanks for the advice! And wow your garage sale was impressive. I have had horrible luck having garage sales. I think I need to borrow that sign you made lol
Haha, the sign was the KEY! 😂 But really, it's probably just a lot of luck and having super affordable prices that people don't think twice about? 🤷 Good luck selling your stuff!
Ahhhhh that's so fun! We are working on our Lisbon recap video (should be out in a week or so) and we KNOW we won't do ALL of Lisbon the justice it deserves, but gosh, we really loved that city. Can't wait to come back and see some smaller towns around Portugal later this year 🇵🇹😍.
It is so hard to sell everything when you live off the highway in a farming area, it makes garage sale almost impossible to get people to drive out to where I live. When I sell online, my ads sit for weeks, and then it jus figures that days or a weeks after I'm out of the country all of a sudden people start asking about things I had posted a month ago. It's hard, give yourself a lot of extra time just in case you can't sell as fast as you firs think you can.
My biggest worry is the timing. How am I going to perfectly time selling all my stuff before the lease is up? Or if I sell my computer too early what am I going to do for months? Soo many questions in my head ugh
Hi! Love your videos. We are in the process of planning a similar journey and are interested in how you managed your US insurance. Did you keep US insurance in addition to your travel insurance? If so, what does that look like? If not, and reasoning that got you there?
Hi Brittany 👋. We are *very* fortunate to not have any pre-existing health conditions, so we felt comfortable letting go of our US health insurance and just using travel insurance (Safety Wing). Thankfully, that decision has served us very well so far this entire year! Considering we were paying ~$1800/mo for health insurance and have only been paying $84/month 😱 this year, with one out of pocket procedure (~$500), we've saved a TON of money 😂. I could see if someone had pre-existing conditions, keeping U.S. health insurance and trying to have the lowest monthly cost possible for that coverage would be worthwhile.
Also, I’m not sure if you’ll see this in time, but you briefly mentioned that you used Notion to categorize your belongings. Would you be willing to share a template or screenshot of the categories and how you set it up? This is the first I’ve heard of Notion.
How did you guys manage visas if you plan to be there for a year? Obviously it depends on the country, but you can only be in the EU countries for 3 months out of every 6 month period if you only have a tourist visa. So where will you be spending the remaining 6 months total of the year?
GREAT question! Yep, we have to play by the 3/6 months rules - no special visa or anything here. We built a (very nerdy) spreadsheet/database that helps us manage this. We planned out 20 "blocks" for the year that are 18 days long. Each of those 20 blocks we'll spend in a destination, so 10 of them can be in the EU and 10 have to be out while also following the 90-day rule. We might share a video about this later on but we want to see it in action first 😅. Right now, things are looking good for our first 6 months (10 destinations) and the blocks we're in/out of the EU 🥳.
Thank you for this video! You guys helped guide me as I'm doing this move solo (daunting for sure!), and my moving sale attendees also commented on my " great signs." They weren't as beautifully printed as yours but they worked (I made 22 signs!) and I had a wonderful showing. I even had a few neighbors offer me help at the last minute which was heaven sent! I made over 1000 bucks and I'm thrilled. Next I'll try offer up and FB marketplace for my furniture. Cheers to world travel and huge gratitude for your awesome help in getting there!
Hey Joshua 👋. We picked Anytime Mailbox and have been SUPER happy with them. We actually changed states too and they made it pretty easy. Would highly recommend them. Our aff link if you want to use it: bit.ly/jasonanytimemail
Haha, we believe in you Josh! You CAN clear out that storage locker 😅😅. Honestly, we really like decluttering from time to time and we don't stay attached to things 😊.
How long did it take you to sell everything? (only 8 months? REALLY????) We are beginning our journey to retire abroad, and I need to form a solid timeline. Also, you said you used Venmo for purchases on Offer Up...I'm old (thus retiring), and modern tech sometimes scares me, is Venmo safe for transactions with strangers? Really?? (lol!) Also, didn't t-mobile make you leave them after a while of being in Europe? I love T-Mobile (I'm also not sponsored....sadly) and the thought of having to switch to Orange or Vodafone or LOBSTER (yikes) scares me too (Man, I'm starting to sound older and older the more I write :( ) Thanks for the videos! Happy trails!
We owned a Tesla Model 3 at the time and for the first time in my adult life (read: 20 years of owning cars) we actually sold the car for a small profit 😱. But, that's not normal, and selling a car will probably be a small loss when you sell all your stuff unless you can get someone to take over the payments on swapalease or a site like that 👍.
I keep getting fired. I have worked years to get know where. I want to sell everything and wander aimlessly. I am already wandering aimlessly but at least then I won't have to deal with anything
Hey Anthony 👋. We landed in Portugal, the Silver Coast, and have been living here since November. We absolutely love it and it's our forever home for the foreseeable future! 🇵🇹
What?? Welcome to the best country in the world!! :D I'm so gonna say hi and treat you guys like old friends if I'll ever bump into you in the street! :p By the painting on the wall I guess you're still here, so if you need anything and still don't know anyone local, it will be a pleasure to help with anything, so just ask. :) I hope you're enjoying this little corner by the sea, have fun!
Awwww thank you for such a lovely and kind offer, Danny! 🥰 We are just about to leave Lisbon and have REALLY enjoyed this city. Can't wait to share our recap video here in a week or two. Such a wonderful spot to start our trip and everyone (much like you) has been so kind.
I would NEVER donate ANYTHING to Goodwill! There are too many other places to donate to that will actually use the money to 'help' people other than the executives of the company. Lol
This was highly entertaining.
Awwwww, thank you! 😊

passed by while watching Matt's video ... nice to meet you 😉
Great content, enjoy your travels and Europe
I did this too! I also had a large dog crate with 2 small dogs inside and moved to the Netherlands! I've never looked back :)
That's AMAZING!!! What part of The Netherlands? We spent time in Reeuwijk (small town) and Utrecht and looooved it. You picked a great spot ❤️.
@@WanderingAimfully I was on the coast at Noordwijk for 3 (amazing beach-filled) years & now I'm in The Hague! Where are you guys now??😀
Great video - getting ready to do the same with 2 shops and a condo!

I love this!! I’m doing the same as a single mother of two small kids moving to Thailand initially
Great tips! Thanks for your sharing 🎉
Been selling for almost 2 years now! (20+ years of stuff) Getting to the crazy stage of everything now in boxes - glad to hear it gets better!
YOU CAN DO IT!!! Just know the payoff once you finish selling all your stuff will feel AMAZING! And give you so much flexibility and freedom 👍.
BItching hard. Done it and IT
stressed me to the max. But did it. To most of a year.
Looking forward to seeing more of your journey! We're hoping to do something similar, and it's always fun collecting and curating the tips and tricks to make full-time travel a reality! ✈️ 🌎

Should be sponsored by Ebay! Congrats on your move!
😂😂😂 Only if I could get paid in tiny flip phones!
Cool
I had an opportunity about 3 years ago to move to Thailand to develop a business with a woman from there
Wow, must have been hard to let everything go. I’m inspired to at least clear out my storage locker so I can stop paying for that. Lol

Did you incur a loss on the sale of your car? How much?

No one wants to buy anything on eBay for what it’s worth.
I sell things on eBay and fb marketplace regularly. Where do you recommend?
