    I remember when I was a kid in Romania back in the 80’s, there where a lot of university students from DDR ( Eastern Germany) hiking in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, and they were always wearing sandals that looked like these but had a back strap too. I bet they were Birkenstocks! 😂

      Birks sandal was first released in the 1960’s, so they may have have been Birks. Birkenstock’s original footbed was invented around 1895.

    Miraculously, I’ve been able to keep my very first pair of Birks I bought at least 20 years ago in pretty good condition. Probably because they got a good rotation with other shoes. The foot bed is pretty much the only sign that they have really been broken in. But the soles sill have BIRK visible throughout. I’ve bought 3 other pairs since then. They are definitely worth spending a bit more for than the average sandal.

    Excellent video. As for those that do want to wear them in the rain, they make the Arizona in EVA plastic and they also have the Boston model (full toe cover) mean for foot service. I wear those for yard work....

    About 4-5 years ago I bought a pair of Birkenstocks (style is London) from the Birkenstock web site, so I know they were not knockoffs. The soles lasted about 6 weeks before the heels were down to the cork. I called Birkenstock, and they had me send them back and sent me another pair. The same thing happened, and I was only wearing them on carpeting, sidewalk, and my lawn. Can you recommend a style for everyday, mostly indoor wear that lasts? Birkenstock used to be a quality product and so comfortable. Do they still make any like that? I hope?

    • @CobblersPlus
      @CobblersPlus  3 роки тому +4

      They are still a great build but there soles seem to have gone down. You can upgrade the soles to Vibram or add a rubber heel for longer wear

    • @9mmfederalrimmed235
      @9mmfederalrimmed235 Рік тому

      That means the density of the EVA outer sole has been reduced. I get here as well knock off Birk EVA outer soles which last only a few months and they look like shit if I go into the woods with them the next day. That means the chinese knock offs are made with way reduced EVA density. I can source some rubber soles which last at least about 1.5 years on concrete. Concrete wears downs soles and not if you walk on earth like garden, etc.

      New Birks: Recyclable cardboard.
      New Parts: Plastic bag. Not eco smart
      All fuel costs and emissions are the same whether it’s parts or new shoes most likely.

    Hello This was a good video. I always wondered how Birkenstock's have gotten resoled. I have the soft bed Birkenstock. I wore these things every single day 365 days of the year. For some reason or another they won't fit me no more. The size is okay it's just the width I have a problem with. My foot is a sz15 6 EEEEEE with very fat wide toe with all toes equally straight across making it for a very very wide foot. I think my foot got a lil wider but my toes definitely gotten fatter since I bought my Birkenstocks and now I cannot connect the strap together because of my foot being so wide with very fat wide toes. I have to wear flip-flops now every single day which I do love wearing but I would love to wear my Birkenstocks again instead of seeing them sitting on the shoe rack. Do you know if there's any fix for the problem like this. Question sir? Do you think if my foot was at a 45 degree angle instead of straight across do you think the strap would still connect together with me having very fat wide toe. Thank you for sharing this video I really enjoy watching it.

My flip-flops are holding up but I'm afraid they're going to break because of my foot being so wide so I'm always doing some things barefooted 👣 Anyway so. It is so embarrassing to have very very wide feet with fat wide toes cuz they cause so much problems. My wife said if the straps can be extended I will be able to wear them again. I appreciate you helping cuz I've been trying to find all sorts of help and I haven't been successful. Question? Do you own any pair of Birkenstocks and if you do what style do you have? And I'm guessing there no solvent way of getting that glue off. I heard of using baking soda a drop of dawn and water like a paste with a tooth brush to scrub the leather sole clean. And just damp towel to wipe that off. Until it dries and comes off. Also what do you suggest for a pair that the cork is really dry but they're brand new but just sat in storage or a window for too long. and the leather is separating from the cork sole. And the suede straps on the sides are coming off should I use contact cement for that. Also how much would it cost to put rubber sole on my black Nocona snake skin boots that have a leather sole? Its strange how the texas made nococa boots are medium wide size 10 and fit perfectly but justin made in USA of global parts had to get a 9.5 and the medium was an extremely tight painful fit they said it would stretch which is a lie because the toe area will never stretch that much and the footbed itself actually felt far too small. I have tried shrinking the justin boots in warm water and wearing them and it did not shrink at all. It's almost as if they are the lowest quality leather ever because real leather would have shrunk.

      Of course you have them from 130 Euro... but I always buy them on sale... my cheapest pair I paid 19 Euro. I bought 3 pair. Black white and light brown with a shimmer. Always the classic too slipper. I just took the fist site I saw...

      @@annnoyez 19 euro, that's amazing! Is that the website where you bought yours? Do they ship internationally?
