Man, Slyudyanka really reminds me of where I grew up. We had cattle a few miles down the road and my dad would have me drive the car down there to feed them, I was 12! Not to diminish the sacrifice of the soviet people but all of us paid a blood price in WW2, both my grandparents were war veterans (one from BOTH world wars), one of them didn’t live long after the war and died from his old wounds, he was a career officer.
My husband’s grandfather died in the war in the Pacific. Everyone’s young men died in WW2, Russia just has a massive population compared to most European countries and the sacrifice was greater.

Правильней ехать по трассе по ходу движения чем по встречной полосе, скорость движения суммируется, и для едущего на машине по встречной полосе времени на реакцию меньше на уход от столкновения чем по ходу движения. Это реально намного опасней.
It is more correct to drive along the highway in the direction of travel than in the oncoming lane, the speed of movement is summed up, and for a car driving in the oncoming lane, there is less time to react to avoid a collision than in the direction of travel. It's actually much more dangerous.

Those cows still have horns! Here (rural Michigan) las vacas no tienen cuernos! They generally are used to bicycles but are kept in protected fields, and milked twice daily! On fishing, that is a swamp -- shallow and only rainwater as tributary. Before the SMO, there were many Russian fisherman on Facebook -- beautiful flycasting in mountain streams. I bet Lake Baikal has large species - sturgeon? Thank you for this bike trip -- Saludos de las orillas del Lago Michigan!

I'm an advanced road cyclist, used to train on busy roads. My advice is to always ride in the direction of traffic and never against it. From a psychological standpoint, it's less stressful not to constantly see cars coming head-on, with the looming feeling they might hit you at any moment. When vehicles approach from behind, their natural reflex tends to be to shift slightly away from the cyclist or any other obstacle on the right when overtaking, which provides greater safety for everyone on the road. I really like your videos. I'm in love with Russian culture and its people, at some point in my life, I'd like to visit such a magnificent country.
