Just a correction : The takeover of Jaguar-Land Rover by TATA was not a distressed one. Although the economy was down due to the 2008 bubble burst , Jaguar-Land Rover were in their own financial troubles since 1999. Also , post takeover , their sales have increased tremendously on an annual basis and it turned profitable post 2011 (until 2020 ofcourse).

Which companies are shifting their production units to India. Indian citizen themselves have a lot of problems setting up a manufacturing units in India.
Now considered a person (Non Indian) who wants to set up a manufacturing unit in India will have to deal with shit ton of paperwork and corruption so the Babu's approve the project. And the transportation infrastructure of India ie Roads are in a miserable condition. These are some of the internal problem India needs to fix so that foreign players investment in India. @Bisbo I disagree with your points. In the long term (5 to 6 years) PM Modi aatm nirbhar bharat and ban on Chinese goods steps will benefit India. This will attract a large number of companies to set up manufacturing plants in India
1. India a very large talent pool of 13 lakhs engineers every year.
2. India is the 2nd largest English speaking country and institutional hierarchy and structure are the same as west.
3. Indian govt improving on ease of doing business every year.
4. Other countries like USA, Australia, Japan, UK, etc. are trying to find alternatives for China.
5. Because of boycott china more jobs in India and the start of a process of skilling workers in manufacturing
6. Manufacturing in China has become very costly.
The revolution that India has done in Software Industry why can't it replicate in Manufacturing.
