When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats?
Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect.
Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination.
The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s.
In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans.
The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander-in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln - the man who freed the slaves.
Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order.
Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support.
During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.
But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with measures like black codes - laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s right to vote.
And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest.
As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes:
“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.”

It's nothing but right-wing propaganda, falsely implying that the Republican party is innocent in our country's ugly racial history. Neither party has clean hands in this.
Or simply make things like this commercials during the news, even Fox just plays their role as a caricature not actually letting people know what’s really going on or what’s going on in the past but instead being divisive. Most people at the roots are conservative. When you really roll back which side they agree with the policy on, not the caricature pushed.

Democrat John F Kennedy purposed the Civil Rights Act. Lyndon Johnson signed it into law on an election year, which was political suicide for Democratic support from the South.
The Senate votes for the Civil Rights Act were Democrat 46-21 Republican 27-6. Northern Democrats 45-1, Southern Democrats 1-20
Northern Republicans 27-5
Southern Republicans 0-1
House Votes were
Democrat 152-96 Republican 138-34
Northern Democrat 145-8
Northern Republicans 136-24
Southern Democrat 8-83
Southern Republican 0-11
For both the house and senate, over 95% of Northern Democrats and around 85% of Northern Republicans supported the Bill. Around 93% of Southern Democrats and 100% of Southern Republicans opposed it.
In the 1964 election, Lyndon Johnson only lost 6 states. Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and South Carolina to Barry Goldwater. Barry Goldwater was a Senator from Arizona, one of the 6 Republican Senators who opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Hey… search up a map of blue states vs red states in the current US. Then search up a map of the US during the Civil War, and look at which states were part of the Confederacy, which states didn’t help stop the Confederacy, and which states were part of the Union. It should be pretty obvious that the Republican Party today was not the great party that it was under Abraham Lincoln.
This is because the parties swapped mid-20th century. Republicans went from left to right wing, democrats went from right wing to left wing. I mean, have you ever seen any Democrats fly confederate flags around like the Republicans often do?

I have recently been debating Republicans on a few different political issues. I managed to gain praise for my stance on a few issues. From people who held an opposing position. You can't debate someone who wants to convert you and does not know what the word respect means. I learned this from my debates with Aithiests. Cameron Gross - Listen to her other videos - she is an eye opener even for white people. There is a reason why the democrats today are hiding or denying this truth. There are no minorities in America. "Minorities" is a nomenclature advanced by the democrats to keep "people" separate (blacks, latinos, LGBTQ, women, etc.) They make it seem as if they advance unity when all they are really doing is reinforcing division. They corral these people into separate groups and brand them victims so that they can appear as their saviors. Why? When the democrats appeal to large groups they can ensure that these large groups (as a whole) will charge like giant herds to the voting booths and vote them into office - after which, they do nothing to improve the lives of these people. All they want is to be in power. All they need is your vote. The truth is we are all Americans (not African Americans, not Latinos, not whites, not LGBTQ, etc.) but the dems don't want this - this would mean they would need to work twice as hard to create a viable platform to win elections. It would mean they would have to gain votes the hard way - individual by individual (more difficult) rather than gaining votes easily by brainwashing entire groups of people. It's why they need to keep these people mentally enslaved to them. Kanye West may have emotional issues he needs to work through but he was totally right about the mental slavery the democrat party has caused in people. By the way, have you heard of the new Blexit movement (Black Exit from the democrat party)? Look it up. It’s growing. That is false for the vast majority. Most conservatives want social improvement for all people, including minorities, immigrants, and the poor. They just have a different opinion from you on what is effective in doing so. The Conservative = Racist thought is probably one of the most cancerous parts of the current political climate.

In the Civil Rights Era, Lyndon B. Johnson, who was a Democrat, signed the civil rights act. This angered many Democrats, who overwhelmingly supported segregation. As a result, the Democrats began flocking to the Republican Party. This made Republicans feel alienated, as they were against segregation. Because of this, the Republicans flocked to the Democrat Party. This went on until both sides had switched to what they are today, which is Conservative Republicans and Liberal Democrats.

This was taught in school, I knew about everything mentioned in this video through only a high school level education. Most people don't remember this because the school system is failing us as a society in it's ability to genuinely teach and engage the students.
These days, they introducing bearded drag demons prancing and shoving genitals in the faces of small children and much, much more.
It doesn't matter, the underfunded predominantly black neighbourhoods that vote for democrats have terrible school systems, and on top of that they have minimal job opportunities to remove the drive towards wanting better schooling. And when you have communities with no opportunities to aim for and no school system worth the ground it's built on, you end up with masses of young people with no chance in life right from the off, that's if they're actually born given the fact that abortion is the number 1 killer of black people in America and democrats drive the right for it's legality. And from there what do they do? They incentivise single parent, fatherless households and remove the police presence, driving all those young people into crime. The whole system then feeds into itself because those people never learn the truth, they continue to listen as the democrats call the republicans racist and they continue to vote for the party thats always had its boot on their necks.

This video is misleading on multiple fronts. Firstly what the democratic party's voter base was has dramatically changed throughout history, which has heavily influenced it's policies. During the ante bellum and the Gilded ages and right up until the transition from FDR to Nixon (it changes based on some years), the Democrats owed most of their voter base to the South, with deep ties to southern planter. Interestingly they were also promoters of free trade, as slavery relied on trade due to the slaves, and their production being imported and exported. Whereas Republicans favoured high tariffs as they increased government revenue while increasing security for Northern industry jobs and business (which you can basically equate to high taxes due to a lack of real taxes back then) This why they fell in with KKK, where instrumental in stopping reconstruction, reestablishing Jim crow laws and white supremacy in the south. This changed with FDR, who was economically centre left, and increased Federal power and regulation (not that the south ever had a problem with that, just google the confederacy policy and you realise), and gained support from African Americans, Southern farmers hit hard by the Dust bowl of 1929 and Northern factory workers hit hardest by the Great Depression. The Republicans at the time, due to wishing for a lazzie fair approach, and de-regulation had in-part caused and exacerbated the Great Depression. The Republicans were founded yes, in part by abolitionist, anti slavers and anti-southern Northerners, city people who had rarely seen a slave, and were not accustomed to their bondage and where horrified at the treatement. So, what we have just found is that the place that was most heavily affected by slavery -the south- politically, socially and economically was the most racist? So Racist that they would fight other white-supremacists-the North- for the right to keep slaves, is the one who votes to keep african-americans as second class citzens? Who would off thought.

Their supreme court nominee's provided the votes needed to overturn the 1875 Civil Rights act and the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson. Hitler did more to end segregation because FDR needed Black soldiers and Black workers. Blacks brought the methods and tactics of the CIO Industrial union movement to the South. The Protest March, Mass Picketing and the Boycott were all tactics of the industrial workers in their battles with the bosses.

King Mojo the point is that she cannot be accused as being evil, or dismissed out of hand purely on the basis of sex or race. In many progressive’s minds, if a white male says something they disagree with, everything they say can be dismissed out of hand just because they are a white male saying it, even if they are 100% factually correct.
So it is a sad reality that we have to have an educated, black female tell this story to have even the slightest chance of being listened to or believed at all.
The point is they hired a black woman as a calculated move to try and provide credibility. People stayed where they were and kept believing roughly what they believed. But political platforms changed starting around 1925 and people who once voted Republican supported Democratic policies, and vice versa. Bill and Hilary Clinton were all gung-ho about "law and order" policies that targeted black "super predators" and ultimately made blacks a disproportionately large % of the prison population. A disproportionately large % of abortions are performed on black women. Partying it up hard in white hoods and black face was apparently all the rage in Democrat circles in Virginia in the 80s. And lets not forget that it took Democrats over 50 YEARS after their "enlightenment" in the 60s to even get around to nominating a non-white male to their party. So clearly racism still existed after some southerners abandoned the party.
It's like the saying goes: let he who is without sin (racism in this case) cast the first stone. As we're quickly finding out, there are more and more folks on team D who find themselves ineligible to even cast that first stone. Don't be a moral authoritarian if you can't demonstrate a perfect record of practicing what you preach. In the age of the internet, the past will catch up with you, one way or another.
Malcolm X was right, the black community was foolish to throw in their lot with a Democrat party with a demonstrated history of racism (at the time, he died in 1965). But, sadly, handouts and sweet words won out over the sage words of Malcolm X.

@Jay After the party switch, Harry Truman (Democrat) was the first to officially end any Jim Crow laws nationally, against the wishes of the Republican south. Then a few years later in 1964, Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat) signed into law the end of segregation institutionalized by Jim Crow laws. 1 year later, Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat still) sign the Voting Rights Act, which prohibited racial discrimination in voting. Then 3 years later in 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat again still, noticing a pattern?) signed into law the Fair Housing Act, which ended racial discrimination in renting an selling homes.

It was ideology switch. Republicans back then had the same viewpoints as Democrats have now a days. Republican’s started off as the party who wanted more government involvement, while the democrats wanted less. You can easily google it for yourself. Also I was taught that in my college political science class. This is what people are talking about when they refer to the party switch. Isn’t that something that seems important to mention in this video. If we are going to stick on the argument of the Democrats back then were still democrats, then why are neo nazis and the KKK voting for the Republican Party nowadays? If the Republican Party still has the same views as they did when they were pushing equality for African Americans, then why are they now the ones who primarily vote against LGBTQ bills? It was under the Democratic administration of LBJ in the 1960's when the Democratic party pulled a major "mea culpa" and passed both the Civil Rights and Voting Acts. When he was about to sign the Civil Rights Act into law, LBJ said, "we're going to lose the south over this."
And, he was correct!
Racist Democrats in the south - everywhere - jumped ship and joined the Republican party in droves.
By the time of the Reagan administration, there had been a complete turnaround.
The south - formerly predominantly a Democratic stronghold - became the "red zone" as we know it today.
