When Derrick was playing for the Cavs I was working at a wine bar in a suburb about 15 minutes south of Cleveland. He and his assistant randomly came in on a very slow Monday and he was seriously one of the nicest and most generous people I’ve ever met. Super chill and humble. He dropped $500 on wine and then tipped me and my coworker $100 each.

I’m a Bulls fan and I love this kid so much. Watched him in High school, college and of course the NBA. I wanted him to be great in Cleveland so bad. After everything he went through I hoped that this would be his new beginning in a new city that loves sports. He could’ve been a legend there. But those injuries, man, it’s painful to think about. Just glad he’s still playing and still a good player. I watched T Wolves games, Pistons games, and I watch Knicks games. And even though he was playing for 3 different Bulls rivals, I rooted for those teams to win every single game. Just a quiet humble kid that would’ve been one of the best players ever. My favorite thing about him on the court were his unbelievable layups and the absolute smooth grace and how he could contort his body. I’ve never seen anything like it ever. Graceful.

He was literally the quickest NBA player ever. It's unreal. He would hardly have to make a move and he would just position himself around his defender in the blink of an eye. Wish I was able to watch him in his prime in person.

Curry was actually pretty underrated for the first few years. Once Elise left curry took over.
Kyrie came in the league a bit after Westbrook and Rose. I think Kyrie wasn't even in the league when D rose had his MVP year.
@@Christopher._M nobody cares about a Westbrook or a KD, no attention was given to Kyrie or Curry, nobody even cared that they existed. All eyes were focused on Rose and Rose alone. Even people who didn't like the bulls had to time in to see this amazing young man do his thing. He embarrassed every big name that dared to step onto the floor against him and he made it look way too easy. Had he never been injured, there would have been multiple championship wins for Chicago.

I see no leaning in on purpose to draw a foul, I see no pushing off the defender's arm with his non-dunking arm, all I see is pure athleticism with upmost integrity of the sport. THat's a hall of famer for me.

I kinda low key wish he would flop now but he just has too much respect and integrity for the game.
the sheer atleticism plus the insane handles ... His MVP session was in a whole different level.
No matter what team he's on, Chicago will always love him and will welcome him with open arms no matter what jersey he wears. Best example of this was the MVP chants he got when he got his 50 pt game in the Timberwolves and the cheers he got when he visited Chicago for the first time after being traded to the Knicks

As a Bulls fan in Chicago who grew up watching MJ, I still can cry every time I watch Derrick Rose highlights.. never before and I doubt ever again will we see someone quite like him he improved every game and never stopped until that Sixers game 😔

I was working in a Chicago public high school during those years he had that city in a way Jordan didn't, those kids knew he came from those same streets. The energy and love was organic. There were titles on the way if he didn't get hurt... That greatest 75 players list that comes out this year there would be no doubt his inclusion. Happy I got to see it.

He was like Westbrook in the sense of going full throttle every game all game with a jumper and played defense. One of the biggest what ifs but regardless I never saw him of the bulls better past Lebron. Lebron ruled the East.

I don't know about you.. but all these just puts a tear in my eye.. knowing that he could've achieved so much if not of the injuries... Even now, he's still great, but, there's just always that lingering thought at the back of my mind, what if those injuries didn't happen... even a combination of wade and james couldn't guard him... just an amazing player.. I'll always be a fan of DRose...

Derrick Rose is an eerie parrallel to Grant Hill both extraordinary players that got robbed of their athleticism at a young age but had the heart, grace determination fundamentals, and savvy to still have a very good career.

Man time flies. I remember before the season starts, he was saying "why cant I be the best player, why cant I be the mvp?" and everyone thought he was crazy. I was already a fan then but I thought he was crazy too since he was just 22 at the time. Lo and behold, the bulls went from 8th seed the year before, to the best record in the nba ahead of superteams like celtic, magic, and heat. Crazy.
Man. He was one of my favorite players. Those battles he had with the heat and the Celtics were epic. That two handed dunk against the blazers may be my favorite play ever.
I love Rose. Loved watching him at his peak. He's always been humble. Gotta say, watching him land almost straight legged in almost every one of these clips has me understanding what happened.

Then, watch (slow down if you'd like) how his 1-2 step and jump action matches with the shooter. Near perfect sync, except for his 1st step. I'd like to assume that the off-sync first step is intentional, and critical due to the height difference between him and the shooter, in order to get the 2nd step and jump perfectly on time.
Once again, this is a masterpiece.

Actually we never got to see him at his “Peak” not so much his prime. I mean that’s also debatable considering he had a lot more in the tank to sustain a couple more years were it not for injury but his peak was never reached. Remember he was improving his 3 point shooting, coupling that with his explosiveness would’ve been a sight to see with fans but a nightmare for opponents…
It actually makes me a bit teary eyed watching these old D Rose highlights. The legacy he could have had man. The potential he had and he was already bonkers getting better. Developing his jumper, he coulda been a goat PG. Chicago bred and ends up on that team and takes it to the top and then boom it's all over one day. Truly sad for the derrick rose himself and the millions of fans. He will always have a special place in my heart and mind for what he accomplished in Chicago but I can't help but think what if...

If he had gotten the treatment that today's athletes got, he would have come back even more explosive. I think ACL injuries are still bad, but there's a higher chance of full recovery these days then even 10 years ago when he got hurt. Another sad what if...

To me, honestly, he was a hybrid of Westbrook and Lillard in today's game. A super athlete, controllable speed, clutch genes, killer midrange, can finish at the rim, and had a lesser 3pt shot(compared to Lillard). He didn’t need to dance around for 20 seconds at every possession to cross a body over. Yes, he never beat lebron in a playoff series but the amount of damage he did to the heatles, was legendary, comparable to the og spurs and dirk winning it all against them.

What impressed me about that season was not how good he was even though he played like a top 10 player there were better players in the league.
The thing that amazed me was that he didn’t his lead a horrific offense of team to 60 wins but he did it as a 22 year old and won mvp.

I started watching NBA just because of him, just one game of his was enough to get me hooked. Personally, I played at PG position and to me his playstyle was the most complete and beautiful. It's this very play on the word "prime" that allowed Gilbert arenas to dance around the question of who was better between "prime" d-rose" and prime Westbrook. All we can go by is what we actually see/saw throughout the course of a player's career. So whatever point in their career when they were at their best is prime. With that being said, I like prime rose over prime Westbrook!

That play against lakers he had an open lane after they got the ball but he he stayed back for coverage, slowed the game back down after getting the ball, driving to the paint towards multiple opps then does a legendary floater to win the game.....the man was unstoppable man this is so heartbreaking when watching how good he was becoming
Started watching basketball in late 2009, watching this man made me a bulls fan while everyone was with the Heat train, I saw this one little kid with heart carry his team to the top of the conference and win the MVP....it was a sad day when he got traded and to watch the bulls decline during the late 2010s but am still a proud bulls fan and feels good to finally see them performing great this season hopefully they go back to being the giants they once were

D.Rose is great, but overated as hell, watch Tony Parker highlights and you will see exactly the same level of quickness and lateral speed, and the guy is the 10th playoffs best scorer of all time, TP is underated as hell and D.Rose overated as hell.
Even Iverson was just as athletic, like cmon guy we know he from chicago and his story is sad but he is overated.

I been rooting for D Rose since day one. I love his game and heart. He reminds me of Russell Westbrook (without the crazy) how he attacks the rim. The slashing handles reminds me of Allen Iverson. Although injuries stole some of his athleticism, I'm still in his corner wishing him nothing but the best.

This guy was so good and such a class act, reminds me of Barry Sanders in the 90s. Barry would score a TD on a ridiculous run, then just hand the ball to the ref. Rose wasn't dancing around and acting a fool, he was all business, he just put so much torque on his body/knees that he eventually got injured landing wrong and he was never the same afterwards.
