Thanks for the video, I have always had difficulties to hit it when attacking the turtle and the details make it much easier! However, the "it comes from jiujitsu, it's called Ezequiel" makes me cringe a bit ;) : - sode guruma jime is a bread and butter judo choke; - sode has been officially categorised by the Kodokan since something like 1985 while it existed long before; - it is named Ezequiel in BJJ after the Brazilian judoka Ezequiel Paraguassu who trained in a BJJ gym in view of the 1988 Olympics and, not being very good at passing guards, choked his unsuspecting partners inside their guards.
Sorry Travis... Sode Guruma Jime is a JUDO technique... In fact, the "Ezequiel" name, Honors a Brazilian Judoka - Ezequiel Paraguassu, he choked a lot of BJJ guys.
Sode guruma jime is one of Koji Komuro's ("Komlock") favorite techniques. He relies a lot on it and used it to get its last veteran world championship title. There is a video of him on an obscure channel where he explains the detail of sode from tate shiho. While I am not fluent in Japanese, it was like: "I have seen this move hundreds of time and yet only now I truly understand how to use it properly...".
Sode guruma jime
One of my fav panic inducing chokes, might not finish them but makes them move to open something else up or keep them occupied.
Yes it’s a great technique that really helps to burn there lungs when they panic even if you don’t get anything.
Great video and excellent details. Thanks again sensei Stevens. 🥋😎🤙🏾
