  • It's been a while since my Lockheed Vega left Fantasy of Flight and headed up to Kevin Kimball's shop for a total restoration, back to flying.
On a beautiful summer morning, I decided to fly the Fieseler Storch up to Kevin's to check on the Vega's progress. It was the first time I've visited since the plane arrived there.

Kermit runs a Smithsonian where the planes are meticulously restored to exacting specs, then instead of hanging them from the ceiling to stare at, he flies em for everyone to see. Think about it, visit, donate and do your part to help keep em flying. It is a massive undertaking to even keep one in flying condition, so do it and be proud of your contribution.

I love the fact that you cut from cockpit view to ground takeoff and back again. You get to appreciate the whole aircraft takeoff & landing from all perspectives.

That 1:1 fieseler storch looks like a fun plane to fly. Love the original markings as well. Best 1:5 scale I ever had.

Most people choose between 1 or 2 cars to get them somewhere... Mr. Weeks looks around his hangar and selects from tons of stunning aircraft. Kudos to you sir.

I should have known that wasn't a Vega cockpit at first glance. You can see everything from a Storch, you can see almost nothing from a Vega. Mostly the sky and to the sides and down. Still a super cool plane though, it was the high performer of its day.

I Love the Vega 5C, my Dad Stan Stanton, Braniff Pilot #6, flew them. There's a photo of him standing next to his passenger, Will Rodgers, on the net.

We have similar issues, with restoration of Klemm 107 here in Mannheim. Some of us are Glider Pilots and still familiar with spruce works.

Kermit clearly doesn't hav a Mosquito problem at FOF. Every time he starts a plane from storage he drops the Mosquito population by half.

I can't wait to see the progress on this planes completion There is a VooDoo 1650 and a Hunter Nedin posts of a Lockheed Vega. Is this the same restoration from Kevin Kimball"s shop ? I thought Kermit Weeks was involved as finacer of said restoraion project or just first time test flyer and eventual owner.Love Kermie Cam videos . Makes sitting on the sidelines still as satisfing as possible under the curcomstances.

The guy made a comment about another plane project, wonder if that's a separate video. Or it's someone else's project that John Q Public doesn't need to know about.
Videoing and sharing w/others has alot of Regularity laws that need to be followed.

Kermit, I noticed on the way over in the Storch that you did some IFR flying, i.e., "I Follow Roads". LOL I did have a question - What does the bicycle chain on the port side of the cockpit control?
