  • We're keeping those Kermie Cam's coming! Here's another frequently requested plane we know you're going to want to see . . . the Curtiss TP-40N. Part 1 Kermit gives some history on the plane before going into a pre-flight tour, explaining all the systems as he checks out the plane. Part 2 you're in the cockpit and get a feel for being in the pilot's seat getting ready to fly. In part 3 you take to the skies for some fast passes and maneuvers. Hope you enjoy the ride.

Loving this - I flew T-6s for most of my life - and my dad, Duncan Broome flew Kittihawk IVs in North Africa in WW2, 76 years ago. So every detail of this great walkaround means a lot to me. Will be in Florida in September, so hope to drop in.

Ridgeview Warhawks High school, is my kids high school and their official mascot is WW2 P-40 Warhawk. It is fully restored and does fly overs of our football field on the 1st day of school and homecoming football games. It makes its home at a local WW2 flying museum, just down the road in Nampa, Idaho.

Now that you've made it "rare" and "famous", I'm sure someone will "locate" another P-40 trainer before long. Probably on the other side of the pond where they seem to be able to pull rare, unusual and VALUABLE "original" vehicles almost out of THIN AIR. But that's nothing new, either. I don't think I'd buy much of anything from anyone that claims to have "the only one" of a "special" mass-production vehicle. gun or other TOOL. Especially when the seller can provide lots of "documentation" to go with it and that literally has to "sell" the machine itself. There's a reason for TRUE "prototypes" and reasons why no production of that prototype CONCEPT occurs and generally those reasons all relate to what the product is supposed to be and how inefficient or impractical or expensive it is when modified for a different application or how much of a compromise the "prototype" ends up being. Not to mention building a "new version" of an existing tool is never as "cheap" as hacking a production version up to build a "prototype" at the factory is. Not even close. Your P-40 "trainer" there is a perfect example of that. How many parts are unique to that one airplane alone? And how do you compare them to any OTHER parts when there are no other "known" examples AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE?

Death Race, I remember that movie barely from when I was a kid. Ver Much like a Rat Patrol type movie. Another movie I was a huge fan of as a kid was the Last Chase with the Black F-86. I now think it is funny, As a kid I thought the P-40 in the movie was some dumb movie prop and not real. We all know that the P-40 only has one pilot and this thing looks like a poor hack just to get a 2nd actor in the movie.....Well my bad. Thanks for the info :)

I visited the Cavanaugh Flight museum some years ago and met a WWII pilot there who was turning in his log books and personal items. He told me he flew P-40's in Africa during WWII. Curious,I asked him how he learned to fly and land the P-40 assuming they did not have dual controls back then. He told me that his instructor stood on the wing with him and gave him all the instructions on how to start it and general control operations. He told me that the instructor then went up into the tower and talked to him by radio through the take off and fly around in the traffic pattern and then giving him a detailed instructions and critique on landing. He said..." he talked me all the way though it and told me if I was high, fast, low or slow...". I have heard that was a common teaching practice back then. Absolutely amazing.

Nice airplane however it really really really really really needs a sharkmouth and yes I know it's a bloody trainer, Kermit said so. Quick question about the fuel on board this bird. Does she have the 160 or 210 gallons of fuel total? That's if they had the drop tanks installed, with your bird does she have an hour or two less fuel available without the 75 gallon aux removed. How much flight time do you have available, if you don't mind me asking. I work for Mark Dilullo over at KCNO and have been fortunate enough to experience all of these beauties by working for him as a lineman. As well as do you have any videos on flying a T6C model or SNJ-4. I'm going to start flying one here shortly after the summer break and would like to see some more of your videos. Low time pilot trying to honor those just as yourself. Thank you for taking your time to share your passion and beautiful collection. Clear skies and tail winds, I hope to see your place someday. That's if it's still open to the public..

I was the kid of a NASA Engineer. We were three famalies from VA moved to TX with space program in 1962. On of the other moters told me she worked in a P-40 factory in WW2. One night a new one came off the line and it was being test flown at night I believe. The engine quit so the test pilot bailed. The engine restarted after he left the airplane. She mentioned his name but I don't. Recall it. The fighter crashed into one of the buildings or building where people were building them. She said it killed 8 workers and the poor guy never got over it. Not a pleasant story but your video made me recall this as I was told it while in high school; prior to 1975 is when my dad retired.

Had the pleasure of visiting FOF several years ago. There was a Lawson user conference that booked the place for a party. The band Boston was playing. While they were good, it was all the planes that held my fascination. I spent all evening going from plane to plane checking out all the different shapes and designs. The Connie was there as well as the DC3 pitched nose down. I assume that DC3 was too bad to rebuild? Great explanation and I'd love to visit again someday.

Noticed in the walk around that there were a number of air inlets or bleed ducts in the chin scoop. Correct me if I'm wrong, I am assuming that these are Carb air inlets each each leading to the carbs via different paths (via filters, heaters or straight in) and the lever in the cock pit controls which of these the air comes from??
