I know this is a couple of years old now, but it literally answered every single question I could have thought of. Thank you.

Awesome review mate! Best I’ve seen on this products, curious, have you had it out in any strong winds???
Looking for a tarp shelter to take on long trips but may be pitched in some pretty exposed spots! Would be perfect if that had put guy out points on the panels instead of the 4 corners!

Thanks for watching! We have not had it in any crazy winds but I think it would do well once it was completely staked out and completely tied down with all the points for guy lines.

Great review and good to see Hank around.
I have one question only, does the outer have 2 way zip? I can't find any information about it anywhere. Just thinking about condensation control. Would be nice to open up the outer door from the top during the night.

Sorry it's been awhile since I've used the tent and I don't recall if it's a 2 way zip.

Thanks for the review! Is it possible to set up the insert only half way to have space for a bike?

Thanks for watching JG. Will you clarify? You have to have a pole to set it up and once the pole is in place it’s pretty much completely erected.

Do you seam seal the inside or outside of the fabric ? MSR suggests using seam sealant on underside/inside (or shiny side) of the fabric, but most advice I have seen seem to recommend the opposite. Many thanks

I personally did not seam seal it. I would go by their recommendation or give them a call if you’re getting conflicting advice.

Do you think it would be possible to use 2 poles pitched to the sides, so that you don't have a pole right in the middle of the floor?

Jonathan Mosca You could lean them off to the side a little but not so far that they are out of the way.

4 people, really? Seems like a bit too close a fit. Heh, and I was thinking that it was a bit small for 2 people ;-) Though the video perspective might make the tent seem smaller than it actually is.
Showing how it looks from the inside with a handheld might not have been a bad idea, as well as having the main camera closer and slightly lower for a better framing.

Thanks for watching. As with all tents I think they assume everyone is 140 pounds. You can definitely get 4 people in it but yes it will be tight. We always use 3 person tents for this very reason. The 2 person we have is extremely tight.

It isn't a 4 man tent unless due to emergency. Yes, a fast and light group may use this style of shelter with similar square footage/footprint, but they aren't using MSR. It is what companies are doing these days including high end companies like HMG (Hyper Light Mountain Gear) or Mountain Laurel Designs. Every 2 person tent is really a 1.5 person tent etc. Pyramid tents inherently have this issue of massive square footage, but much less useable square footage. They tend to be for groups who are willing to forego the the mesh inner tent as the inner and outer together negate the weight savings/to space ratio vs traditional UL freestanding tents. So, Lupus you are correct in some regards.

Adventure Rig yeah. 2 person tents are for use by 1, 3 person tents are for use by 2. At least once you’re no longer sized like an early teenager. And in emergencies you can fit an extra person.
And the door configuration on this one shows pretty clearly it’s intended regular use is for 2 people.

I think maybe some of you don't understand. This tarp excels in the snow. Where you can dig down a foot or 2 and also getting creative with a snowbench. At that point its a bomb shelter in basically any condition and yes id still just sleep 2. Seeing this set up in its location here does nothing to sell it whatsoever.

$350 just for the tarp tent and $369 for the inner? If the prices I mention are correct, MSR should be ashamed. This is just a stupid tent, with $700 I can buy 4-5 of them by Amazon, are we serious now?

We sure do. We probably use our Elixir more (ua-cam.com/video/mmcYSQsI0WM/v-deo.html) but this one is great for climbing trips or car camping.

A very boring presentation of the tent. Could have showed us a 360 degree round view and inside view of the tent, instead of just a flat front view.

    • @AdventureRig
      @AdventureRig  Рік тому

Sorry to bore you 🤣 if it makes you feel better, it looks quite the same on all 4 sides, and you can pretty much see through it since there is so much mesh. I'm guessing you were too bored to make it 30 seconds into the video, but we do show close-up shots of the tent features.

It's so unfortunate the insert only has the one door. Would be so much nicer to fully open it up.
