    I have Specific use for this information, since my install is limited to TWO panels, whereas most vids deal with arrays larger than Two.
    I am hopeful to get a Definitive “answer” as to optimizing my Two panel (Van) installation

    OK.. I'm a complete newbie in solar. Should I connect two pairs of solar panels in series ( wired as two sets ) and then parallel or the other way around. I believe the end results are the same with current and voltage but am wondering if the panels being wired parallel and the two pairs joined in series would result in a more stable situation or does it make no difference? Please forgive me as I just really do not know and I'd rather appear stupid than burn up my panels or power station. Thanks in advance for your help. I "WILL" be fusing the panels regardless. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks again !

    I just bookedy the Anker SOLIX F3800. It has 2- 60amp max connection ports. I was going to buy 6 - 400watt panels and run 3 in parallel to each port. Does this sound right? I’m a solar newbe. Panels will be VOC under 60 volts and VMP over 32 volts. Thanks

      @Moes_Prep_and_Tech 4 місяці тому

      I would that an educated guess and say your 400 panels are over 30 volts each so it would kind of suck for you to put them in parallel, because Unlike this video where he's connecting 2 together in series and then paralleling them in groups of 2. You will have to parallel all of your individually. So you won't go over the 60 volt Voc. (it's a lot of work man and it's gonna look even messier than this video) be prepared to have a lot of extension cables on hand

    I will be doing parallel with just 2 panels, I think, because the portable power station I want to use 2 panels on when it is cloudy will tolerate only 30 volts for the DC input, and my folding panels are 22 volts, so I cannot do series and double the volts. Now I need to assess whether the MPPT controller in the unit can handle the amps, I guess.

    i have 4 100W panels , do you recommend doing 2 sets of series and then connecting them in parallel? would that give me 400w's at 11A?

    • @SirJamez0
      @SirJamez0 4 місяці тому +2

      It depends on what you are connecting it to can handle. You just need to sit down and do the math. My River 2 Pro can take 50v 14A max. If you connect x4 of your panels in series, that would be about 80v, too much for my River 2, if you connect all of them in parallel, that would be about 22A, too much for my River 2, however if you connect 2 in series and then both sets in parallel like in this video you would get about 40v 11A, perfect for the River 2 Pro. Connecting in Parallel will also give you more Watts than Series, as long as your controller/device can handle the Amps.

      @Moes_Prep_and_Tech 4 місяці тому

      are you in a shaded area? If not and if whatever it is your connecting it to can handle the combined Volts (VOC) of them all just go for it. Parallel is great if your afraid of partial shading or if your controller can't handle the volts.

      There are no 300 volt panels on the market. Maximum voltage a panel could produce is 52 Volts, and that only under ideal test conditions in a lab. As for your question, the best connection would be the the one that would give you the lowest voltage for your battery, because the MPPT produces bigger losses for larger voltage difference (for converting from source to destination)

    so the more volts you add the lower the amps so can use a small gauge wire? where in par the amps go up alot and need a much larger wire? am i getting this correct?

    • @camerona.5921
      @camerona.5921 9 місяців тому

      Correct. Low amperage 14-12 gauge solar wire; With amperage higher than 25 amps, go with 12-10 gauge wire

      depending on the length of the cords. The Panels I have really suck for Parallel, they are just long enough to put in series. So I would need an extension for for like every other connection and that sucks

    I dont know much solar panels but if I have two 100 watts solar panels and I get someone to connect them for me in parallel for usage on my solar generator, after connecting them in parallel will I get a total of 200 watts coming from the sun to charge my solar generator? My solar generator has maximum amp of 8.5. If the amps double after connecting in parallel will this damage my solar generator??

    • @Moes_Prep_and_Tech
      @Moes_Prep_and_Tech 4 місяці тому

      Volts are Force Fed, Amps is something your generator has control over. So whatever your setup details. Don't go over the VOC (voltage)

    Which type of connection is preferred. Parallel or series

    • @debbiedogs1
      @debbiedogs1 Рік тому +1

      Totally depends on the system and what amount of amps and volts it can handle. Putting panels in parallel means the AMPS of each panel are added together, increasing the amps going to the system; panels in series add the VOLTS, especially the listed "VOC", so you need to know a bit to assess what to do and why and how.
      Clearest video I have seen on this is by Jason on his Jasonoid channel, and right now I need only 2 panels combined, which at least makes the math simpler.

      I like series but for example if your where to stand in front of one of your panels "ALL" of them would be seriously impacted. it's an all or nothing kind of approach. But less work involved getting it setup. Parallel gives you an insurance plan, They all work together to give you the same results (if your controller can accept the amps it puts out) and when the sun moves and half or part of your array gets shaded the other parts of it with sun on it won't get affected so your still getting power

      Rule of thumb is ALWAYS oversize your wire if you aren't sure. The price difference between 12 gauge and 10 gauge isn't much; So I'd go with 10AWG

    You sound like you may know what you are doing, maybe you can figure this out.
    I have 12- 100W 20V 6A panels wired in parallel going to a 1300W GTI.
    Each panel individually puts out about 21V.
    At the end of the parallel string, I get 16V without a load.
    Instead of 60A, I get about 3A.
    I fused each panel and all fuses are good.

    This guy advertised his video as being one that focused on, and explained how to connect two solar panels in PARALLEL. Yet instead of focusing on that specific issue, he starts blabbering so incoherently on his stated topic and keeps switching back and forth between series and parallel that trying to watch this video wound up tying my brain into knots and I finally got so disgusted that I shut the video off. Is this supposed to be a beginner's video how to or is it aimed at people who have 10 or 20 years of experience dealing with
    solar configurations?
    I score this video with a major F minus. It did NOT provide me, as newbie to solar, with the answers to the questions that I thought the
    title would give me. All it succeeded in doing was to confuse me even more than I was when I clicked on the video.
