I think you have to get more acclimated to the screaming because I do think those high screams fit very well with the heavy atmospheric chords on black gaze stuff.... especially when they're mixed like they were on Sunbather, it adds another texture to the music
Long time symphonic metal fan. I found out about Alcest around 7 years ago. It took a while for me to come to terms with the screaming but because of the quality of the music, I kept listening. I must now say that at my age, that Alcest is the band of my senior years. Once I became open to the screaming, I was able to enjoy other bands (mostly melodeath). Listening to Alcest opened up a new genre for me, bands such as Marianas Rest, DVNE, Enshine, etc.
Not a fan of screaming vocals but Alcest doesn't do it much. I recommend 'Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde' their debut album. Still my favourite from them. Very melodic and mostly instrumental.
Hi Alex. Pronounce it: Hey-k-hi (Écailles) The (de) Luna (but don’t pronounce the A sound). 👍 Love the quiet musical sections, very atmospheric, but can’t stand the screaming voice. I’m french and I’m not sure if it’s french words. 😵💫
