First time I watched a vod of your stream with the new model. It grew on me a lot. It's really well animated and you seem comfortable and more expressive.
Marissa Botelho is the main actress guys. She has like 0 social media presence but she seems to enjoy acting on the side. I hope to see her in somsthing new soon!
I was able to find a website and she lists her email, which is probably how Alex Hera was able to contact her for the documentary. But yeah other than that she's like nowhere to be found, her IMDb only has her appearance on the documentary as a credit, which is a shame cause she acted her ass off on that series.
When he teleported Roger to Marissa, I immediately imagined the "I consent" meme with Jesus in the background saying "I didn't" but with Slenderman instead.
3:39:20 this is such a sad series, but that idea is so hilarious to me, like “Yeah, doesn’t matter where I go, my ex just keeps turning up.” “Oh no, he’s some kind of stalker?!” “Nah, ‘s fuckin Slenderman.” Poor guy’s getting pinballed around the country and they’re just like “🤷🏻♀️ oh well, maybe it’ll stop at some point”
i watched this about two weeks ago after i was watching one of your videos and you briefly mentioned it, and realized that this whole fuckin thing was shot down the street from my house in oakland, by people i had run into at shows, bars, and partys. it was SOOOO WEIRD to watch an awesome unfiction project staring passing acquaintances that were in the same "scene" as me, and EVERY location is one of my fave spots to hang in oakland, whether its the tubes, the port, the bottoms, the venue Trees, 8th street, center street, the gazebo watchtower by the pier, they mention Oakland Grill for a birthday brunch and "the witchy place on telegraph" which is a wonderful shop called Ancient Ways i used to go to and even the terrifying climax at the beautiful yet disgusting Lake Merrit, god i just cant get over how freakin surreal it was to see all this, i was hoping youd cover it soon so that i could cheese about it in the comment section lol
like once i realized what city it was in, i was squinting at the early videos set at night, trying to figure out what neighborhood it was in, then i saw the video titles: first "7" then "8" then finally "center" and it all just clicked- they are freakin street names! and im just sitting there gawking at the screen from a house on 10th and center lol
This was, hands down, top to bottom, from start to finish, a masterful story. Truly, despeite it ending suddenly as it did, it felt like it ended the only way it could. I feel hollow, and I wouldnt have it any other way after watching this
In marble hornets Slim acted like a DND warlock patron for Alex. EMH, that was more Habit's racket and Slim was just kind of there doing his own thing. Tribe Twelve he had a goal but it seemed low priority to him. And here... He's a relationship guru for a somewhat toxic couple? Honestly I'm pretty sure this was an opportunity thing for Slim that turned into a hobby between other gigs. 4:28:43 did... Did Slim actually let her go? That's rare.
As an artist I find Tulpa Effect's ending so existentially terrifying. The series is so good that almost the majority of it feels like a mainstream found footage film more than a web series. For it to end with the main character in the same lowest point we've seen her, but more drunk, alone, bitter and broken. Without Slender even present. It all feels to me like such a harrowing metaphor for creation. I Didn't expect this to keep me up all night, and it isn't Slender keeping me up. Slender in this series is a strange toxic comfort, gave meaning to the character's life, and is so linked one to one to a relationship with so many problems... losing slender, losing that relationship feels like a muse dying.
Yeah, that's an immensely good way of putting it into words... I wasn't expecting it to go this way like most of the series tbh. It is genuinely unique and unfathomably unpredictable but mundane and with a normality that it uses to bend your head. It's so sad at the end and most way through. Such an achievement x
Honestly given what we know that the Tulpa Effect's ending was changed because of real life troubles stymied their original plans, i kind of find it inspiring. Because it definitely feels like on some level the ending is tackling the idea that the series "failed" its original ending. The unsatisfying conclusion where Marissa is stuck right where she started feels like the creator working out their own feelings of being stuck with the project. But imo it's very effective in its dissatisfaction. The choice to go in that different direction with the ending was a risky one but I think it comes together really strongly
Maaaaaan, if THIS was the Slenderman series I latched onto back then, I genuinely think I would be a better person. I haven’t even finished it yet, but the themes they explore are so legitimate and mature (for a Slenderman/old web series), it genuinely sets it above the rest. And that’s before you factor in the filmmaking. Damn, I love this.
I'm reminded of the Symphony of the Night speech oddly enough. 'it is not by my hand that I am once more given flesh. I was summoned by humans who wish to give me tribute.'
this entire series feels like its using Slenderman as an analogy for their bad habits? whenever they talk about or are affected by "him" they're at low points, whether they just got in a fight, or are drinking, or are hiding things from eachother, that's when things happen, its either Slenderman being a manifestation OF their issues, or Slenderman taking advantage of their issues, but they're definitely connected in some way...and honestly the idea of him representing their issues is a lot more interesting to me, the idea that he fully isnt real, but instead is some form of embodiment of them not being well, which could play in with them not being meant to see him, because humans tend to not be able to see their issues or look at them? idk, weird theorizing on my part probably 😅 perhaps hopeful theorizing because i personally like this kind of concept, the more psychological type of horror hidden behind the "monster"?
I'm loving the Marble Hornets get-up. It makes you look bad-to-the-bone, like you're about to set off on a motorbike with Graphi's arms wrapped around your waist. And starting the first video, the opening ambiance makes the proceedings feel like we walked into a dingy roadside bar. Also, Roger kinda looks like he stepped out of the 1970s. Partly the hair, partly the outfit, but together they make him look like an alternate member of ABBA. ...I was gonna say that that one moment hit like a cricket bat. But this series, when it's not indulging in a character-driven slow-burn, is willing to treat us like the printer from Office Space.
honestly im surprised you hadn't covered/seen this before. glad you're getting to it now. tulpa effect really was underrated. it had such a different approach and i have never really been able to let it go. and it was so much more interesting as a series since it wasn't "a slenderman" but a TULPA of a slenderman. so of course it is focused on them and consistently stalking them and wiping their memories to keep them from trying to defeat/get rid of it. they have a perfect ouroboros of terror. not to mention the acting. roger is good, but marissa sells her actions and monologues and reactions so SO well. you really truly get the human aspect to this nightmare they're trapped in. especially in the moments where she's breaking down. but its really sold in the mundanity of the filming, it's such a wild topic but handled and vlogged just so exactly as other youtubers were doing their normal vlogs at the time. this series has such a slow build and really holds back so well to build all the tension before the couple really has even barely a grasp of what's happening and as a viewer it's so good for sucking you in. i just dont know. the way it peters out, but also how it makes perfect sense to end like that. i just don't think this story will ever really leave me. i don't really know if it was supposed to end that way or in all the years it took the actors gave up/grew apart. it will always be part fiction part nonfiction in that way
Man, i really wish i had been into Slenderman when this first came out because this is right down my alley. And i really want that teleportation effect because damn it would make going to work so much easier.
I loved this series back when it was ongoing! I still do and I teared up seeing it finally get done love! I originally discovered TulpaEffect and other lesser knowns through art by deviantart user Expressions who actually did fanart for a few series. I initially thought it ended after she announced the breakup in character so seeing that video of them by the lake made me fall in love all over again - it grabbed ME by the thrust that was so awesome! It all makes me yearn for when series felt like just hopping along a journey with friends. I haven’t watched the documentary yet but even though I had always suspected it I was still sad to hear they did split. I was sadder that it ultimately ended so unceremoniously with so many unanswered questions. But I do like “what if we echoes forever”, haunting as it is. In some way it makes it feel like she’s still out there, not updating but deciding she found the end for herself and found the key to living again. I wish there was closure about Roger, the drinking, the noise, and the doll in the garden. There’s so much more that could’ve been but I can’t imagine how exhausting it was towards the end. Thank you for sheddjng light on this whole third act that I missed. 💜🐈⬛.
Did anyone notice during the clip where they're talking about how Marissa forgot her ID that anytime Roger would shift the camera further to the left of her there's Slendy just chilling just past the lamp there? I'm pretty sure he's standing there the whole time during that conversation. 1:53:41
I had to go frame by frame, and while the light from the lamp is kind of blown out in the vid, I can definitely see the hem of a suit coat. Good catch!
2:14:02 at this point, ol Slim doesn't seem actively malicious or malevolent. Like, you could tell me these two kept getting evience of him when he was on a separate thing entirely and he only took notice on a fluke or they were giving off the right wavelengths. Or maybe Slim just felt like watching a romcom that strand of the timeline. 2:14:31 "hey, are you guys okay? Got enough sunscreen? Your eye has enough battery? Cool cool. So, I got a thing so I'll catch you later." 2:14:31 this is honestly the most emotion I've ever seen of Slim. And it's more befuddlement than malice. 2:14:31 "hey guys it's later. Still doing good? Getting along good? Okay, rooting for you two!"
I think what makes the growing even better is that the hands and knees stay at the same relative location, while his upper body and upper arms stretch, makes him feel even more inhuman with the weird proportions
Learning about Tulpas had a major affect on how I internalized spirituality as a teen. It makes the idea of an Animus spirit make more sense when you think about how many people already anthropomorphize inanimate objects when they bump them. We've all pointed at something and told it to stay. What if all of us doing that made tiny spirits in things?
This series gives me major chills. I'm almost glad I never saw it before because it would have seriously traumatized my younger self. I thought the Rake was the scariest monster until I watched Tulpa Effect. I can't get that scene where he slowly grabs Roger out of my head. Doesn't it look like The Man is somehow smiling when the image distorts? One of the most deeply unsettling sights.
It's truly incredible how natural all the early videos feel. It's really like amateur people with their phones or handheld camera running around with no filter, trying to figure out what's going on.
1:46:52 There's my Chippy... 2:57:28 Slenderman banging out the (Akira Yamaoka) tunes Also jokes aside real quick, Nick missed it, but when Roger wakes up in the cornfield in "?" You can very faintly hear the metal banging sound for a few seconds
i believe the reason there's so little show of real human connection or empathy in recent indie horror is simply this; it's difficult to do, but moreover it's difficult to do *right*. believable character interaction and relationships can be very demanding of one's skills as a writer, and as people's skills as actors, so many creators are probably too intimidated to try.
3:02:00 Salt it, burn it, sprinkle with holy water, wrap it in a silver crucifix- heck, surround it in wolfsbane just in case that helps- lock it in an iron box, and drop it in the Marianas Trench where it can be surrounded by saltwater for eternity. Throw the book at it (in this case, "the book" is a grimoire).
Was really surprised they didn't seem to catch slendy at 2:11:36 and then not 20 seconds later, Nick says he's got his eyes trained on the background looking for him.
i think the final video was probably the creator's way of saying, in-character but out-of-universe, "i'm done with this project and i'm tapping out here." we get to wonder how she as the character is going through life now- is she on a slow downward spiral until eventually it's all over? will she settle into a new "normal" of constantly being on edge and trying to numb the pain with alcohol, where the only bright side is that she's alive? or is there a possibility, that a decade plus after the first encounters, she can finally get ahead of _Him_? i can't say i'm fully satisfied, i would have liked to see some sort of resolution, whether it be good or bad- either roger and she dying or being forever trapped in slenderman's torment, or beating him- maybe at least finding out what happened to roger and having a period of potential "mourning" for him before moving on. that being said, i think it was a good end, dripping with a lot of palpable emotion- it wasn't fully satisfying, but it certainly wasn't dissatisfying. furthermore, it was a placid acknowledgment of how wildly the world, especially on the internet, has changed since the start of the series, and that a series like it probably couldn't exist anymore in the current state of things- at least, not exist in any way similar to how it started.
I just watched Tulpa Effect days after watching Alex's amazing three part documentary. I only regret being a decade late, not barreling through it before you could cover it.
2:22:52 I was kind of expecting the second hit and I'm glad I was right because it's actually way scarier that the thing is very present and very real and NOT going away. Trying to convince yourself you're just seeing things and then you very, very much aren't. That's also what makes the "this time he's just all the way out there in broad daylight" element work here. There's obviously a limit to how much of that you can get away with, but at least for this sequence, taking the spooky specter that's always lurking just out of sight, hiding in the background, scaring you and then disappearing as soon as you take a second look, and going "nah. not this time." is an effective trick.
Hey Nick, have you seen “the last beta player: a minecraft movie” by Mongster? Despite how it’s presented on the outside, if you break through the thin shell you’ll see it’s actually unfiction (or something close) on the inside. The reason I bring it up is because I think it shares some tenets with tulpa effect: restraint, genuinity, and feeling like it’s about more than just a monster. And I feel that having a view of the player’s desk, seeing his hands on the keyboard and the ambient light in his room, and hearing IRL sounds from the room really humanizes the whole thing quite a bit.
friggin hovered over the video and got jumpscared(?) by lorge grunge cat daddy. .........i love the shit the internet allows me to say unironically LOL
Honestly, I feel like this is so special because ultimately it's a series that only just *happened* to be a Slenderverse unfiction. The real story being told here I think is the relationship our main character had with the internet after all these years. The monster is the modern web, not Slendy. "What if we just echo forever" has to be one of the saddest things I've ever heard in an unfiction story, and watching someone just become more and more depressed in a way I can recognize and have, to one degree or another, experienced, this hits me harder than even those excellent scares she threw our way.
2:36:24 no psychic with an ounce of actual gift would help you with this out of self preservation. 3:00:01 look, even without Slim actively shipping you two, the relationship seemed kind of toxic. (Also, anyone else remember Marissa explains it all?) To be fair, all these years later and I still don't know why Slim does anything. 'kindness" of his heart probably isn't it, since as toxic as the relationship seems to me, letting them break apart would have been the kind option.
Huh. So is Slim in control of when the static happens? It would make sense with him not wanting to be perceived. 3:50:41 also, he's in the window to the right.
Love seeing some of the amazing places in Utah that I have been to. The red rock deserts, Aspen, and the sandstone caves cut into the rock. Such cool beautiful places. Man what an amazingly written and acted story
Yay!! Perfect timing, a long video to relax and get my work done at my desk job to. Loving these edited VOD explorations so so much- especially when we get to see a whole series with you and get your thoughts on why they work!!❤
Watch it turn out that the major time gaps in the series are because of the actual actress recovering from all those screams! Just listening to her makes my throat hurt.
Just my two cents: I know it received small criticisms at the beginning for how the first video was kinda jokey and the second was more serious and it seemed it was moving “too quickly” but I disagree: I think that was money the most authentic moments in the story. See, we who watch and consume these products often forget, and really if we’re honest just don’t care about, is that off camera, time and life both continue. We have no idea what happened in the time space between those two videos and unless there is a major reason, then it wouldn’t make sense for someone to tell us what happened. What I mean is put yourself in the shoes of the vlogger here: you make the one video, then post it. But life continues to happen. You have no idea anything crazy is moving pieces around in the background; because you’re not watching the story, you’re in it. Now the second video is a little more subdued, but it could be for any number of reasons. I mean if she was drunk on the first video it’s going to be vastly different from everything else. Point is; she’s telling the story, presenting it, in the most authentic way possible; the way a non professional would tell a story if it were really happening. The average person vlogging isn’t going to think to share every tiny detail and try and be as clever as possible; no, their going to tell it as it becomes relevant to what their doing in the moment: making a video. I say kudos to them for, intentional or not, simply letting life happen off camera just as it does for all of us.
Loving this so much! So well done. Practically flawless! Kept my adhd ass WRAPT! I’m still rewatching because I do feel some details got by me. Thank you, Nick, for covering this, and thanks to the especially creators!
Idt the boyfriend is obsessed, he sure as hell didn't seem interested when she was watching that Slenderman video. I think she's the one who is obsessed with it and is doing some gold level mental gymnastics to try and pawn it off on her man. 🤷
at 2:55:00 I thought the banging was very reminiscent to the droning ambiance of the slender games, being a nebulous banging presence. The accompanying camera glitches make me feel like he was somehow just barely out of sight watching.
as someone who knew *nothing* about slenderman beyond knowledge of his existence, this was an *incredible* experience with some of the best delivery of scares i've *ever* seen in my long and arduous journey of experiencing unfiction now somebody kick slenderman from the server, he is *abusing* that /tp command
I don’t like how Nick Nocturne went from scrawny wierd furry twink to super ripped bara furry daddy Like the first version was so sexless and now this one gets me acting up - it’s kind of whiplash And I’m not sure if I’m ready to confront my feelings about the same gender rn
I just finished the documentary, and i glad that more people have gotten into the slenderverse. does this mean that at some point, you would do series like darkharvest, which is my favorite series or MLA ? Thank you nick and thank you for getting me into this world of the slenderverse and of arg❤
1:57:50 i think this might be some of the most realistic crying i've ever seen in a series, WOW 2:03:00 ok wait no i love roger hold on- ohhh wait... did HE unintentionally infect her via putting the earring - and then she was wearing them and got influenced...? MAN. WHAT. ok this series is GOOD. HELP HE GOT HER AGAIN ON THE STAIRS... I REALLY THOUGHT HE WOULDN'T BE THERE ok made it to the end of the video. good series. definitely agree that it's far more mature than most slender series, and i really liked that. Hope it gets more eyes on it nowadays after so long in the dark.
AYYO WILMINGTON DELAWARE MENTION????? I thought that was the Senator William V. Roth Jr. Bridge during the travel vlog, but then I figured it might just be a common look for bridges! Awesome!!
1:35:09 I feel like this is a series similar to what Hereditary did where you’re seeing the characters that are normally pushed to the background in the main stories of the genre are being brought forward and given the chance to share their experiences
Extra long shadows... Slendercouple At this moment in the video it seems like they're making it seem like he's just paranoid. Like; "She's only showing you half the truth!" and then when it shows his video there's nothing there. Not even an audio anomaly. I always find it a little interesting they way some of the symptoms are. And I think I heard someone else bring it up years ago but like; it's all a lot like radiation poisoning. The less supernatural symptoms I mean. The buzzing too gives me a radioactive kind of vibe too. But maybe it's just supposed to be kind of like the sound fluorescent lights make. Oh boy xmas of evil again If you're suffering from slendersickness; ["Like me!" "Like me." "And me!"] you can live a normal life! Speak with your doctor and communicate with your partner. And let's walk into the future together... Slenderman is a fan of observation towers why The first appearance didn't startle me really but the second one a few minutes later did. Nick brought it up in the video right after I thought about it; but yeah it seemed really weird to me that slenderman would wipe them after they spotted him. Like if you don't want them to see you why are you out there in the open like that? What is the reasoning there? It does kind of feel close to something that I've been thinking a lot about lately; which is fae monsters. Do the videos get mirrored sometimes or does her lip ring keep switching sides? o__o I didn't hear this pointed out but there is also the fact that this is maybe one of the only female-lead slederverse series and y'know... sexism can play a huge role in weather people give a show a chance or not. The crowd that was really into all the boys club slender series might have just turned their noses up at a female lead show without even watching a single video. [The myth of consensual sex] Roger: "I consent" Marissa: "I consent" Slenderman: "Isn't there someone you forgot to ask?" [horrified shrieking follows]
I’ve definitely thought the same things but I wonder if anyone has ever dived into why so many of slenders side effects seems to say he’s emmiting high amounts of radiation
3:56:20 Slenderman hitting the mainstream for the wrong reasons referring to that girl that was stabbed multiple times in the woods to be a sacrifice for Slenderman. Because a lot of the projects involving Slenderman basically died off after that event. The fact that the girl survived was kind of a miracle in itself
I'm at the 1:44:21 convo about showing slender man yet. And I honestly can't believe this is words that are flying out of my mind and onto the keyboard...but even God damn Gilbert Garfield did this too. We NEVER saw what the GG clone-mutant until the climax, only the cartoon of him. We had no idea what these things actually looked like. And when we finally did he was just as incomprehensible and bat-shit insane. Who else but Gilbert Fucking Garfield.
Comparing slender man to a kiwi fruit... Why am I thinking of Slenderman with top heavy armor and big circular blades!? (For context I'm talking about Kamen rider Ryugen's kiwi arms from Kamen rider Gaim)
4:02:43 seconds…. she thanks all the ‘ humans ‘ for sending in questions. What could that mean? Is she a proxy? Does she not count herself as being human anymore?
4:18:21 she mentions shadows moving across the glass of a shower door. This could be her denying the fact that she sees Slenderman. I think Slendy is trying to find a new proxy or something else.
1:46:58 yoooo!! the sound effect at the end sounds like a recreation of the slender man pop up sound effect! The one that sounds like a piano key. Seems like they recreated it with a pot or something ua-cam.com/video/cuok3NhHN6I/v-deo.htmlsi=PuqWvrMlUeKWmnDa
I honestly liked more Tulpa Effect cause isn't that grandiouse. The other series had lore and history dating WAY back to the stone age and took multiversal stuff. This feels more grounded, kinda like Marble Hornets
I mean posting about it online might be a kind of shit thing to do her her complaints are understandable if he's seemingly obsessive with this thing t but also gatekeeping it so she can't participate making her feel excluded from his life he's obviously acting strange and keeping secrets so understandable that would create a rift or some tension but of course she's oblivious to the fact that she's becoming just as bad by researching it behind his back
Someone reported the screams to the police, at least i hope they did cause if someone heared those shreiks of pure terror and just did nothing.. well thats a bad sign..
This is extremely dumb but like 35 minutes in when they start saying "that's not like Gus" I gotta admit I did mishear it and I did start expecting some wildly out of time Kendrick Lamar riff
I hadn't really heard of the tulpa effect (the concept) until this, and I've been pondering it on and off for the past day... In a universe in which it's a working phenomenon, what's to stop you from manifesting something more powerful than Slenderman, as a defense? For example, say I have a friend who's a vector, and the idea is trying to glom onto me as well, but I decide to hyperfixate elsewhere and bring an avenging angel to the table? Would that work? If I'm being silly and haven't realized something obvious, feel free to let me know :)
Also, has anyone else had the thought that The Silence from Doctor Who bear an interesting resemblance to Slendy? A bit of inspiration from the internet mythos, perhaps.
Is the VOD of checking out Angel Hare season 3 going to be uploaded here? I'm really curious to hear your impressions on it. I really think and hope Angel Hare inspires someone else to make something really awesome inspired by Angel Hare (which is already an awesome series to begin with.).
A slow-burn, female-driven, semi-metatextual horror story with a non-sequential storytelling and possibly an untrustworthy narrator. Yeah, no wonder this didn't hit in 2011, the same uear that gave us Rebecca Black and Planking.
Tulpa Effect has to be one of the most underrated Slenderman projects of the first wave of the Slenderverse. It was fantastic to sit down with this in its entirety live!

3:39:20 this is such a sad series, but that idea is so hilarious to me, like “Yeah, doesn’t matter where I go, my ex just keeps turning up.”
“Oh no, he’s some kind of stalker?!”
“Nah, ‘s fuckin Slenderman.”
Poor guy’s getting pinballed around the country and they’re just like “🤷🏻♀️ oh well, maybe it’ll stop at some point”
i watched this about two weeks ago after i was watching one of your videos and you briefly mentioned it, and realized that this whole fuckin thing was shot down the street from my house in oakland, by people i had run into at shows, bars, and partys. it was SOOOO WEIRD to watch an awesome unfiction project staring passing acquaintances that were in the same "scene" as me, and EVERY location is one of my fave spots to hang in oakland, whether its the tubes, the port, the bottoms, the venue Trees, 8th street, center street, the gazebo watchtower by the pier, they mention Oakland Grill for a birthday brunch and "the witchy place on telegraph" which is a wonderful shop called Ancient Ways i used to go to and even the terrifying climax at the beautiful yet disgusting Lake Merrit, god i just cant get over how freakin surreal it was to see all this, i was hoping youd cover it soon so that i could cheese about it in the comment section lol
like once i realized what city it was in, i was squinting at the early videos set at night, trying to figure out what neighborhood it was in, then i saw the video titles: first "7" then "8" then finally "center" and it all just clicked- they are freakin street names! and im just sitting there gawking at the screen from a house on 10th and center lol
maybe you're next on his list, then 😈 you could be infected...
This was, hands down, top to bottom, from start to finish, a masterful story. Truly, despeite it ending suddenly as it did, it felt like it ended the only way it could. I feel hollow, and I wouldnt have it any other way after watching this

Your comment made me realize... it's a Lovecraftian ending.
Tribute? You steal men's souls, and make them your slaves!
@@opalpersonalPerhaps the same could be said of all religions. But enough talk, have at you!
this entire series feels like its using Slenderman as an analogy for their bad habits? whenever they talk about or are affected by "him" they're at low points, whether they just got in a fight, or are drinking, or are hiding things from eachother, that's when things happen, its either Slenderman being a manifestation OF their issues, or Slenderman taking advantage of their issues, but they're definitely connected in some way...and honestly the idea of him representing their issues is a lot more interesting to me, the idea that he fully isnt real, but instead is some form of embodiment of them not being well, which could play in with them not being meant to see him, because humans tend to not be able to see their issues or look at them? idk, weird theorizing on my part probably 😅 perhaps hopeful theorizing because i personally like this kind of concept, the more psychological type of horror hidden behind the "monster"?
I like this take. I was thinking about it as well. It's like it only appears when you are in your lows or is the cause of it.
This series had such a level of restraint. There were so many shots where a worse series would have done a blatant back ground slender and they didn’t
But this series, when it's not indulging in a character-driven slow-burn, is willing to treat us like the printer from Office Space.
honestly im surprised you hadn't covered/seen this before. glad you're getting to it now.
tulpa effect really was underrated. it had such a different approach and i have never really been able to let it go. and it was so much more interesting as a series since it wasn't "a slenderman" but a TULPA of a slenderman. so of course it is focused on them and consistently stalking them and wiping their memories to keep them from trying to defeat/get rid of it. they have a perfect ouroboros of terror.
not to mention the acting. roger is good, but marissa sells her actions and monologues and reactions so SO well. you really truly get the human aspect to this nightmare they're trapped in. especially in the moments where she's breaking down. but its really sold in the mundanity of the filming, it's such a wild topic but handled and vlogged just so exactly as other youtubers were doing their normal vlogs at the time.
this series has such a slow build and really holds back so well to build all the tension before the couple really has even barely a grasp of what's happening and as a viewer it's so good for sucking you in.
i just dont know. the way it peters out, but also how it makes perfect sense to end like that. i just don't think this story will ever really leave me. i don't really know if it was supposed to end that way or in all the years it took the actors gave up/grew apart. it will always be part fiction part nonfiction in that way
The only unbelievable thing in the series 1 hour into the vod is, is that one character has a gf, when my gaydar is beeping so wildly
probably believable given it's 2011 tbh 😂
Could be a bi legend, but also: some straight guys are just a lil fruity. Good for them, good for them
@@fawfulbenivictor5556 my guy I'm gay and I'm saying that one Amar or whatever his name was (I'm bad at names sue me) was giving me me vibes
He could be bi or pansexual!!
@@AshleyYelsha fair point, fair point
Oh crap I didn't notice that
I had to go frame by frame, and while the light from the lamp is kind of blown out in the vid, I can definitely see the hem of a suit coat.
Cool cool. So, I got a thing so I'll catch you later."
2:14:31 this is honestly the most emotion I've ever seen of Slim.
I haven't been scared by Slenderman stuff in yearsss this is crazy especially the stairway scares
Love the juxtaposition of Nick's nice and pleasant voice with a huge jacked cat in biker gear 😂
That creator/actress has that horror movie scream down. Dang. Lol
1:46:52 There's my Chippy...
2:57:28 Slenderman banging out the (Akira Yamaoka) tunes
Also jokes aside real quick, Nick missed it, but when Roger wakes up in the cornfield in "?" You can very faintly hear the metal banging sound for a few seconds
i believe the reason there's so little show of real human connection or empathy in recent indie horror is simply this; it's difficult to do, but moreover it's difficult to do *right*. believable character interaction and relationships can be very demanding of one's skills as a writer, and as people's skills as actors, so many creators are probably too intimidated to try.
Has Nick ever talked about The Empty Man? He seems to have hangups about tulpas so that would probably work wonders on him.
It was until this moment that I didn't put two and two together for that movie. Thought it was really interesting at the time.
Was really surprised they didn't seem to catch slendy at 2:11:36 and then not 20 seconds later, Nick says he's got his eyes trained on the background looking for him.
I can't find him
i think the final video was probably the creator's way of saying, in-character but out-of-universe, "i'm done with this project and i'm tapping out here." we get to wonder how she as the character is going through life now- is she on a slow downward spiral until eventually it's all over? will she settle into a new "normal" of constantly being on edge and trying to numb the pain with alcohol, where the only bright side is that she's alive? or is there a possibility, that a decade plus after the first encounters, she can finally get ahead of _Him_?
i can't say i'm fully satisfied, i would have liked to see some sort of resolution, whether it be good or bad- either roger and she dying or being forever trapped in slenderman's torment, or beating him- maybe at least finding out what happened to roger and having a period of potential "mourning" for him before moving on. that being said, i think it was a good end, dripping with a lot of palpable emotion- it wasn't fully satisfying, but it certainly wasn't dissatisfying. furthermore, it was a placid acknowledgment of how wildly the world, especially on the internet, has changed since the start of the series, and that a series like it probably couldn't exist anymore in the current state of things- at least, not exist in any way similar to how it started.
Hi! ShadeArtsOfficial here from the chat! I hope everyone has a fun time as much as I did during this
I am INCREDIBLY EARLY, also THE NEW MODEL OUTFIT??? HELLO? MY EYES ARE BLESSED
Marissa = Scream Queen!
2:22:47 IS THAT *THE* RARE SPOTTED NICK GASP?!?!
39:55
Kid when mom and dad are fighting again
I just watched Tulpa Effect days after watching Alex's amazing three part documentary. I only regret being a decade late, not barreling through it before you could cover it.
I think something like the Tulpa Effect would make a pretty good horror movie.
Maybe check out The Empty Man
2:22:52 I was kind of expecting the second hit and I'm glad I was right because it's actually way scarier that the thing is very present and very real and NOT going away.
3:06:20 as a person who has went through that exact same thought process twice this performance is so impactful
God the nostalgia trip having. Never thought Slenderman would become nostalgic to me.
2:36:24 no psychic with an ounce of actual gift would help you with this out of self preservation.
3:00:01 look, even without Slim actively shipping you two, the relationship seemed kind of toxic. (Also, anyone else remember Marissa explains it all?)
To be fair, all these years later and I still don't know why Slim does anything. 'kindness" of his heart probably isn't it, since as toxic as the relationship seems to me, letting them break apart would have been the kind option.
Huh. So is Slim in control of when the static happens? It would make sense with him not wanting to be perceived.
3:50:41 also, he's in the window to the right.
Slenderman: "Now kiss."
I’m sensing that Slenderman is more of a peeping Tom than stalker/hunter.
Loving these edited VOD explorations so so much- especially when we get to see a whole series with you and get your thoughts on why they work!!❤
What a pleasure it was to watch this alongside you! These are genuinely some of the best scares I've ever seen. What a series.
Watch it turn out that the major time gaps in the series are because of the actual actress recovering from all those screams!
Just listening to her makes my throat hurt.
i didnt finish the series yet but i'll say it now: THEY DESERVED GETTING RICH FOR MAKING THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF ART
tulpas can't be real because even after 4 hours and 33 minutes of uninterrupted concentration there's no hot demon cat boy in my room
YEAAH THE VOD i was lurking during stream so im glad i can rewatch all this
Nick! Love, love ***LOVE*** that outfit 🤘 beautiful battle vest!
The real mystery was if the brain damage was caused due to the slenderman or due to the severe alcoholism
Maybe both? Slendermans effects are likened to radiation poisoning so it could definitely be both
Idt the boyfriend is obsessed, he sure as hell didn't seem interested when she was watching that Slenderman video. I think she's the one who is obsessed with it and is doing some gold level mental gymnastics to try and pawn it off on her man. 🤷
Not-for-nothing casual videos like the intro do exist still the algorithm will just never push them into your feed
at 2:55:00 I thought the banging was very reminiscent to the droning ambiance of the slender games, being a nebulous banging presence. The accompanying camera glitches make me feel like he was somehow just barely out of sight watching.
How is this actually so good 😭
as someone who knew *nothing* about slenderman beyond knowledge of his existence, this was an *incredible* experience with some of the best delivery of scares i've *ever* seen in my long and arduous journey of experiencing unfiction
now somebody kick slenderman from the server, he is *abusing* that /tp command
2:20:05 God. I think the scene is so terrifying not because of Slenderman, but because of the scream performance of the lead actress.
I don’t like how Nick Nocturne went from scrawny wierd furry twink to super ripped bara furry daddy
Like the first version was so sexless and now this one gets me acting up - it’s kind of whiplash
And I’m not sure if I’m ready to confront my feelings about the same gender rn
Please cover this on main channel it is one of the best non fiction projects I’ve ever seeen
I just finished the documentary, and i glad that more people have gotten into the slenderverse. does this mean that at some point, you would do series like darkharvest, which is my favorite series or MLA ? Thank you nick and thank you for getting me into this world of the slenderverse and of arg❤
1:57:50 i think this might be some of the most realistic crying i've ever seen in a series, WOW
2:03:00 ok wait no i love roger hold on-
ohhh wait... did HE unintentionally infect her via putting the earring - and then she was wearing them and got influenced...?
MAN. WHAT. ok this series is GOOD.
HELP HE GOT HER AGAIN ON THE STAIRS... I REALLY THOUGHT HE WOULDN'T BE THERE
ok made it to the end of the video. good series. definitely agree that it's far more mature than most slender series, and i really liked that. Hope it gets more eyes on it nowadays after so long in the dark.
1:00 Kirby fans just cannot escape this phrase. Anyone who has completed Forgotten Land will know what I mean XD
Caught this one live! Can’t wait to see what I’ve missed lol
2:20:16 I love the fact that he grows up, it's kind of bizarre and scary.
Been playing Minecraft while watching this
Theres been an Enderman stalking me the whole time
Extra long shadows... Slendercouple
At this moment in the video it seems like they're making it seem like he's just paranoid.
Oh boy xmas of evil again
If you're suffering from slendersickness; ["Like me!" "Like me." "And me!"] you can live a normal life! Speak with your doctor and communicate with your partner. And let's walk into the future together...
Slenderman is a fan of observation towers why
The first appearance didn't startle me really but the second one a few minutes later did.
Do the videos get mirrored sometimes or does her lip ring keep switching sides? o__o
I didn't hear this pointed out but there is also the fact that this is maybe one of the only female-lead slederverse series and y'know... sexism can play a huge role in weather people give a show a chance or not.
@@llexarts Possibly people just haven't thought about it that much.
Was it a 2010's thing that all guys tried to look like the Unabomber?

I'm at the 1:44:21 convo about showing slender man yet. And I honestly can't believe this is words that are flying out of my mind and onto the keyboard...but even God damn Gilbert Garfield did this too. We NEVER saw what the GG clone-mutant until the climax, only the cartoon of him. We had no idea what these things actually looked like. And when we finally did he was just as incomprehensible and bat-shit insane. Who else but Gilbert Fucking Garfield.
Yo this is epic :3 also love the outfit Nick
1:11:45 they played us like a damn fiddle, you might say
At the video at 1:53:23 I'm yelling at my screen "You didn't see that?! He's right there!" lol
Comparing slender man to a kiwi fruit... Why am I thinking of Slenderman with top heavy armor and big circular blades!? (For context I'm talking about Kamen rider Ryugen's kiwi arms from Kamen rider Gaim)
Never been here so early. Excite!
The Tulpa effect is Seinen to Marble Hornets and Everyman Hybrids Shonen
1:46:58 yoooo!! the sound effect at the end sounds like a recreation of the slender man pop up sound effect! The one that sounds like a piano key. Seems like they recreated it with a pot or something

Oh my gods, that new model outfit is... whew.
I honestly liked more Tulpa Effect cause isn't that grandiouse. The other series had lore and history dating WAY back to the stone age and took multiversal stuff. This feels more grounded, kinda like Marble Hornets
I mean posting about it online might be a kind of shit thing to do her her complaints are understandable if he's seemingly obsessive with this thing t but also gatekeeping it so she can't participate making her feel excluded from his life he's obviously acting strange and keeping secrets so understandable that would create a rift or some tension but of course she's oblivious to the fact that she's becoming just as bad by researching it behind his back
2:18:50 Bet she doesn’t need a bathroom anymore. Instant bladder and bowel movements brought to you by Slenderman😂😂😂😂
Nice vest
Is the VOD of checking out Angel Hare season 3 going to be uploaded here? I'm really curious to hear your impressions on it. I really think and hope Angel Hare inspires someone else to make something really awesome inspired by Angel Hare (which is already an awesome series to begin with.).
Hes so SWOLE
A slow-burn, female-driven, semi-metatextual horror story with a non-sequential storytelling and possibly an untrustworthy narrator.
Yeah, no wonder this didn't hit in 2011, the same uear that gave us Rebecca Black and Planking.
