"Funny how...tiiime fliiieeessssss." As a teenager in high school when this song came out, hearing that ending pulls at my heart in a way I can't explain. Great reaction.
Time flies and its hard to fully understand each era unless you were there or at least had a basic idea of the culture and tech available at the time. During the 80's most people had cable TV by then and we had maybe 15 channels (MTV was new and music videos became the source and vehicle used by the groups)...(60s and 70s TV reception was via antenna, and only 2 or 3 channels, videos were rarely done.. radio was the mode we heard the music hits from). Today, you have internet and can watch and listen but very little in the way of good music being originally produced.
@@Abbadonhades I used to think that Evreybody Wants to Rule The World bore me too .... but I realise I was not listening to the second half of the song closely enough thinking its just repetitions ... but its not, the second half of the song is actually the better half of the song where they turn it up a couple of notch ....its epic how they change it up .... appreciating the second half of the song is really the thing that takes the song to another level ....
Roland absolutely crushed the vocals, my goodness. Such an 80's powerhouse track. The bass and the synth are exceptional. Songs From the Big Chair was their biggest album but I still think their debut album The Hurting was their best album. Pale Shelter is another TFF song you guys should react to.
TFF is an amazing group. This song, specifically, was written by Roland Orzabal to woo his soon-to-be wife, Carolyn, who passed away a few years ago. She can be seen in the video and was the love of his life and his heart broke when she passed - it was uncertain if he would perform again, after that. He did, and he's back with Curt. I LOVE, love, love this song..........
I love these kids who were not born yet to hear this song. And they all loved it. Well done Roland and Curt! I danced to your music during college. I'll never forget it!
Brings back so many great childhood memories. Saturday morning. Dad making pancakes while blasting Tears for Fears ❤️ What a great way to wake up as a little kid ☺️
On the album, this song is part of a medley that starts with "Broken", which segues into "Head Over Heals", which segues into "Broken (reprise)". So if you want to hear a longer (and better) version of this song, you can do so in it's intended context. Thanks guys - and enjoy.
Oh man.. this group.. what can I say, ANOTHER OUTSTANDING, TALENTED BAND FROM BRITAIN... Amazing vocals.. amazing melody, and very nice lyrics. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.
Hey Nick, don't forget the other Tears For Fears connection to Donnie Darko, the closer at the end of the film, Mad World, a TFF original, covered nicely by Gary Jules.
These guys are so great Tears For Fears. I remember when their first song played on the radio "Shout". They took off and quickly became very popular in mainstream Pop Rock. I myself consider it to be between Modern and New Wave it is very radio worthy. They climbed up the chart quickly with "Shout" and they never looked back here came the money. My favorite track from them was "Head Over Heels". These guys are so talented they made some great songs while fans were making memories to their beautiful music. Also "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" was a thought provoking great sounding song.❤
There is an extended ending on Head Over Heels! It comes back in with an awesome vamp out and a dynamic finish! I hope you have a chance to research and hear it!💕😊
There's no "n" in immaculate. This is the first cassette tape I bought when I was a kid. Plug in some headphones and leave the planet. Great bass playing with fantastic bass tone. It's almost like you can hear the texture of the fingerprint on the strings.
My favorite song of TFF. Also, the song and video went so well together. Such a joyful sound and feel to them both. That whole Tears for Fears sound is so unique and catchy. You gotta sing along. Love Roland's voice and underrated guitar work, and their harmonies too.
Donnie Darko Music industry connection: In Donnie's class, there is a bully named Seth, played by Alex Greenwald. He is the lead vocalist of the California rock band, Phantom Planet.

My favourite TFF song from Songs From The Big Chair album. You guys should check out the previous album “The Hurting” and tracks “Change”, “Mad World”, “Pale Shelter”.
Aw, takes me right back to being 15! Has more meeting now that I’m in my 50s. Time does fly - boy that was a great time to be young, all our future ahead ahead of us…great song.
I think it took awhile for Tears for Fears to go "mainstream." I definitely think of The Hurting as a college radio. It was this album that brought them out of the shadows.
Great Song! Never saw the video, it's funny. That opening is unmistakable! So much going on in this video...😄 From all the books he is holding, the chimp, and how awkward he walks when he walks away from the desk... Cheesy, fun 80's video! Rolland is becoming one of my favorite voices... The "lalas" at the end ("Lovin' Touchin' Sqeezin' " has repeditive "Na Nas" at the end of that song). Had this up as loud as I could. Don't know what the Perverse part was - maybe 4 leaf clover is code. 🤣
Tears for Tears is one of my top favorite music groups and "Head over Heels" is a great song by them but they have so many great songs. Listen the longer version that connects with "Broken". Listen to "Sowing the Seeds of Love" and "Woman in Chains" next.
I sent to the same school as Curt. They started as a band called “The Graduate” back in the day. Used to follow them at local gigs before they then changed to TFF. Bathin Somerset at the time was huge for music artist either creating or recording music. The 80s were in my opinion the best decade of music ever.
One of my favorite albums all time. They , U2, and Crowded House were in deep rotation in 85 on my tape and cd collection. Yes too when my girlfriend wasn't around... TFF and HOH were like our Marvin Gaye, lot's of good times listening on repeat...
Such a great song from such a great group. They had some reunion gigs last year that were awesome and they sound just as good today as they did back in the 80's. In 50 years there will be a reactor on the future's version of UA-cam (hopefully it's no longer Big brother, but I won't hold my breath) who discovers this group and their songs and they will be as popular as they are now and were 40 odd years ago. It is a classic sound that will never go out of style.
Jeez this is near 40 years old …WTF ? Still sounds great , this was around the time the song writer Roland Orzabal was becoming more confident as a lead singer rather than his colleague Kurt Smith , and boy could he sing ! Great track 👍🏴
So dude in the middle hit it on the head. I remember this song when it came out in the 80's and yeah... It was nice. But when I saw how they used the track for that scene in Donnie Darko my appreciation for the tune shot up like Mentos in Coke. It's seriously one of the best crafted pop songs of all time and deserves a trophy. Along with Everybody Wants to Rule The World, Tears for Fears can claim at least two of those.
One of the things I appreciate about this reaction channel is that the guys DON'T watch videos like some other channels. I think videos can be distracting, and watching the video can mean the reactors aren't fully "in the music". I prefer it when reactors listen to just the music, the studio cuts, just as most of us were first exposed to those songs when they were released on the radio. I think listening to just the music provides a more pure, visceral, and honest reaction.

Yup I feel you on that one
That line and the earlier line 'Oh, I feeeeeeeeel so.'
I see that as a passionate expression of ANY deep feeling a person may have.
I totally get that. Tears had a way of doing that with alot of their songs
Curt had a HUGE role. That bass line is all him and brilliant.
Donnie Darko! The best 👏👏
Eric Clapton predicted when TFT opened for him that they would be HUGE. And....they were.
My favorite part of the song:
"Oh, I feel so"
Gets me every time!😊🥰
But Curt came in with one of the most beautiful bass lines ever written in music history! What a song! :)
"Change" and "Pale Shelter" are two very underrated songs that were quasi-club songs back in the day.
Pale Shelter 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Change!
This was such a big video on MTV. We must have seen it about 100 times, as our group were MTV addicts.
This song is a gem. Often overlooked IMO by “…Rule The World” and “Shout” (which are also tremendous), this song is perfection.
Head over heels and Shout are really great. Everybody wants to rule the world always bored me, unfortunately.

My favourite Tears for Fears tune. Speaking of Donnie Darko, what a great soundtrack. The Killing Moon - Echo & The Bunnymen is just perfect.
Another criminally underrated band, Echo.
Killing Moon would be a great choice to review, with the backstory and the DD connection.
Mine too. It’s so linked with Donnie Darko for me that it evokes all the feelings that Donnie Darko evokes in me. It’s probably my all time fav movie
Yes!
Yes! My mind always goes to Donnie Darko now when I hear either song. (Or “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”)
I love these kids who were not born yet to hear this song. And they all loved it. Well done Roland and Curt! I danced to your music during college. I'll never forget it!

These two are so charming! Their acting in this is good too. You should see them now. They still look and sound great!

They go together so very well. I love this album.
True, the ending seems cut off without Broken
Joseph speaks the truth. The whole suite is the only way to listen to Head Over Heels. Whole album is a masterpiece.
Saw them live in 85 and Broken was one of the best parts in the show imo.
This entire album is amazing to me❤
I'd still pay good money to see them perform today! They are timeless!!!
I just saw where they're touring! Hope they get to Texas n wherever u r.
I saw them last year and it was an amazing show… they’re 60 years old and still nailing it
@@dragonflySummer09 I bet! That's awesome!

Favorite TFF song period. I love Woman In Chains with Oleta Adams too!
This song really pulls at the heart strings of an 80’s teenager!!! My favorite Tears for Fears song by far.
One of the best songs ever, in my twenties
That big book is the inspiration for Facebook.😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
My favorite Tears song!! The actual song has an extended ending that is live. Just an awesome song and band!!
One of the best selling albums of 80s, every track is awesome and no fillers. So many great albums in this decade, what a time to be alive !
Y’all should watch a live performance of this song. As soon as those opening chords hit, the crowd goes wild
Tears For Fears are among the gods of Rock n Roll!!! And one of my all-time favorite Rock n Roll bands. Kirk...his voice is AMAZING!!!
When you've been married for over 30 years and you're still waiting for that cup of tea.
The fantastic Head Over Heels montage in Donnie Darko is where I first heard TFF. I love this immensely talented band.
