This video will be a treasure in one hundred years from now. As people will surely be as fascinated as I am today when I view old film that people have taken in a similar fashion of the early 1900’s . Great video.
I'm born and raised in Montreal. Love seeing Montreal from someone's else point of view! Thanks for all the videos you did here. Hope you enjoyed your stay! BTW, I recently read an article in MtlBlog, all those NY cars it's because they're filming the new Transformer movie in la belle ville. How exciting! 🤩
MJ Montreal, I started visiting Montreal from Ontario due to medical reasons. I fell in love with Montreal, I'm so fortunate that I get to visit every year. I tell people why visit Paris when we have our own Paris. Montreal is the best, enjoy your day!

The video you produced is so relaxing, watching Canadian Citizens going about their daily lives, some of us thousands of miles away. Thank You for all you do.
I think St. Catherines is more like what Yonge Street was between Queen and Bloor (with a twist of Queen W)...before all the demolition of little stores to make room for condos. Btw, hope you went to Rue St-Denis -- it's awesome with tons of creative little patios, restaurants, etc. I discovered it on this trip. Always find a new great location in Montreal.
Thanks Johnny for this video. I am a native Montrealer, and my family still lives there. I visit often and I know the city like the back of my hand. I am so glad I moved to Toronto many years ago. To each his own :)
Great video. Next time, I suggest Old Montréal and the green spaces/parks and waterfront paths in the city. When Covid passes and the festivals return to normal, you'll notice a lot of streets closed off to traffic and become pedestrian only. As great as walking is, I think the best way to experience Montréal is by bike. The many bike paths allow for easy access to different parts of the city in a short time.
It’s been many years since I’ve visited Mount Royal. People are a bit more laid back than those in TO. Well, at least they were. I don’t know what it’s like now, but before when I was there, some drivers just ignored traffic lights. Nice to provide a walking video of another location. Awesome!
Awesome walk , thank you so much , I have some bittersweet memories of Montreal , AAA gave me the wrong directions and I landed on Rene Levesque Blvd in Montreal instead of Rene Levesque Blvd Quebec City 🙃
You just passed the Couche Tard convenience store and the village corner store.. Dude!! We call them >> Depanneur And before that there's a Rachel Bery grocery store, it's healthy foods. But drinks to go they have.

Inside the berri uqam station there's a by the slice pizza restaurant and you don't need a transit systems ticket to get some food to get in and buy some yummy pizza freshly made and the sell whole pizzas if you need more than just one slice.. Also a coffee shop in the middle before going to the pizza place..
the one and only time i stayed in Montreal in 2015 I stayed at some nice hostel near that Berri-UQAM metro station. There were a few nice Arcades/Game Centre's along St.Catherine's I recall. I'd love to see you walk into and cover some of the Game Centres when you walk the city streets :-) Cheers!
Thanks for the walk. I was just got back from Montreal a week before you came. Stayed closer to the water / port of old Montreal. HAD to escape the lock-down of Toronto. Love Cresent St with the L. Cohen mural. Montreal is such an awesome world class city with great little streets, cafes, shopes, art installations, and UNLIKE Toronto -- Lots of history. In Montreal there is lots of contruction because they are FIXING their streets and old building VS Toronto there is lots of contruction because they are TEARING down old buildings and putting up condos. Don't want to sound negative, but it's true. All over GTA nothing but craines and condos. I cried when they tore down Honest Eds.
@Black_Benz, Honest Ed's was torn down because the Mirvish family who founded the store no longer ran it, and the current owner of the store no longer wanted to run it (as well, the Mirvishes neither wanted to open up any more locations of Honest Ed's or even franchise it and then sell it with it still going on), so the store closed down in 2016 and a new apartment (which they say will be rental-oriented) is being built in its palace. I'll agree with you about the condogentrification, but a counter to that which others would say is that if Toronto didn't build all of these condos, it would be more suburban sprawl that would wreck Ontario (and most of the places that have the condos are places in downtown Toronto that were mostly parking lots before they were condos.)
Ahhhhh That’s nice you’re here!!! Saving the video to watch later. In two weeks, I’m moving back to Toronto ( and so excited for the new restart). Hope you’re having a great time in Montréal ( despite some messy constructions everywhere).

I think that an unintended benefit of the separatist movement which resulted in many corporations leaving Montreal for Toronto is that a lot more older architecture exists in downtown Montreal.
In a few decades everybody will speak english everywhere in Canada. Huge skyscrapers in every downtown canadian city. Equal culture. Equal way of life. No more particularism. If anyone will tell you "bonjour" in Québec city street you will answer "good morning" not "bonjour" !!!! Canada is less and less interesting for visiting ...
@@bobduvar Thats is why many of us, we are making sure that doesn't happen... We want french culture to be here in 100 years... We have to make young people love our difference, the love of french language and culture.
You're absolutely right. As a Montréal architecture enthusiast, I can say there are a bunch of historic buildings that were set for demolition in the 1970s (e.g. Montréal's neo Roman Windsor train station which is now a Canadian architectural crown jewel) and ultimately got to be preserved. Montréal was gutted badly in the 1960s but we dodged total demolition à la Toronto.
I think that Montreal & NYC are tied for jay-walking. Approximately 1/3 of the church is a dinner theater now. The Contemporary Arts Museum is now in Place Ville Marie.
Johnny, as you said, in Montreal there's no buildings as high as in Toronto. 2 reasons: 1st is there's more big businesses in Toronto so they need more highrises. 2nd reason: 40 years ago, Montreal city council passed a resolution limited the height of towers : no skyscrapers shall be higher than the top of Mount Royal which is about 250 meters or around 800 feet. It's the law. I think it's a pretty good law, it makes the city more at a human scale. If you go at the Mount Royal belvedere, no building to block you the scenic. And I incite you to go there, there's a stairs way up to that belvedere at the north end of Peel street (corner Pine Ave.). And one more think: don't go eat at those St Hubert BBQ. Gee , it's a boring chain....my old grumpy neighbor goes there every week! It's like if you'd go in NYC and the only restaurant you'd find would be Applebee's or Sbarro's. Come on, there's so much little funny trendy no chain restaurants in the city... Ok Johnny, these are my 2 points and enjoy Montreal. 🍺😎
IMO many streetes in MTL have their own...vibe. I think about Green avenue in Westmount. Walk on any big street (Ontario, rene-levesque, st-cath etc...) it's a new world every 2 streets. Also, so many neighberhoods to discover (ville-emard; Ile des soeurs, NDG and more). I love NDG and its architecture.
