There is nothing wrong with the needles. H&S makes them perfectly and very well polished. I had a video of it under the microscope but forgot to add it in! The needle is perfect though. Good to have seen your video. Yesterday I picked up my 15 year old Evolutions again for painting some miniatures…and the trigger action was exactly as you described it. I could remember that hey felt the same 15 years ago for illustrations, and I remember that my Iwatas ( old hpb series) felt like god mode in comparison to the Evolutions… after having encountered that problem yesterday I thought about getting the infinity now since it is the most beautiful airbrush there is and I always had an eye on it.. but your video demonstrated to me, that I’d rather save my bucks and give my Iwatas a good clean up :)…
Things might get better for H&S since Anest bought them. The infinity is not a detail airbrush for exactly the reasons you stated. Inconsistent trigger response and higher air speed at the nozzle. It also has no real technology in the head design like the Eclipse or the Micron. I agree the iwata cm with the softer air at the tip just gives you more of a sense of comfort, confidence & control. I have an Olympos mp-200c and it actually beats the iwata cm-sb that i have. But... the air speed is higher at the nozzle which annoys me a bit. Good channel. You know what you are doing.
Where can I get the needle safety cup, that is seen at the beginning of the video? I know, the original needle safety "clamp" from H&S also works, but this one (obvisosly not from H&S) looks much better to me for storage
Thanks for saving me money on still wanting one....thought they fixed all the issues from the version 1...I guess till they do I may buy one. Quality build is none like any other but can't do nothing with something that looks pretty but won't perform for the asking price! New sub here great review!
I bought this airbrush for scale modelling, especially preshading panel lines and mottling on WW II aircraft. I can't get it to work with Vallejo Model Air and Ammo Mig paints....it's the worst buy I've ever made with regards to modelling tools. The paints don't really go through the nozzle out of the box (which is how they are meant to be sprayed most of the time), when thinning the paints, I get spiderwebs galore. I've tried a lot of combinations when it comes to spraying distance (very limited when doing mottling, you have to be close, otherwise you get overspray), air pressure and paint viscosity. I didn't find a combination that works for me. It's fine when I put on the 0.4 mm nozzle and spray at around 20 psi, like the wings or fuselage, but as soon as I put on the 0.15 mm nozzle for pre shading and mottling, this airbrush doesn't work for me. It might be a great tool for artists, using specific airbrush paints (not modelling paints), but gosh I hate this airbrush for my modelling works. A cheap Fengda 0.25 mm worked better for me doing mottling, until it broke :)
Completely agree with you. Spraying acrylics paint with 0.15 needle is a nightmare.. It's better to by Fengda multiple times instead of this German garbage. At least it will save me from frustrations..
I'm curious, you're not the first reviewer to say that they don't use the Quick Fix End Piece, in which case why not get the Evolution CRplus instead? The price difference is not trivial.
Have ever experimented with any of the other H&S needle & nozzle sizes for this instrument? If so I would be curious to know if you have any thoughts or spray angle estimates when equipped with the other sizes.
I've owned many different airbrushes over the years from Sparmax to Iwata and I absolutely love the H & S Infinity airbrush. I have 3 x of the version 2 H & S Infinity and it is a beautiful airbrush to use and the build and finish is stunning. As mentioned, the only gripe is the paint not coming out every time which is due to the paint drying on the tip. If you keep an eye on it and keep lightly wiping it the issue is solved. I've also polished the needles and they seem to perform slightly better. I will be looking for a .6 needle and nozzle as I have one airbrush for metallics only.
I bought a H&S Infinity CR Plus two years ago. The first time I did a major clean on the needle, I noticed a very minor hook on the needle tip. Can I use a 2000 to 4000 grit wet dry sand paper to remove the hook?
You gave me hope that the new needle would make my Infinity the brush I bought it to be. But alas, I'll just have to keep using my PS-771 for detail. Now there is truly a bang for the buck Airbrush.
Infinity or Custom Takumi? Investing in one or the other. Is the spray lag not worth the savings on the Infinity? I'd locked in on the Infinity with DRED FX CUSTOM PAINT little teflon ring mod. But reading the comments here, now I'm not so sure - so which is it? All comments appreciated and, of course, GREAT VIDEO!
I wanted to give my feedback after watching a lot of these airbrush review videos and my experience with my new infinity CR plus. I only found an inconsistency with the trigger pull when I was dealing with a liquidtex white ink for a long period of time. I simply flushed the needle and everything was back to normal. I haven't found any issues with the trigger pull. Seems very consistent for the inks and thinned scale75 arcylic paints I've sprayed so far through the. 15mm needle/nozzle. The v2 needles seem to feel the same for dry tipping and paint drying on the needle as my Iwata neos and HP-CS. Other than than. This is an amazing airbrush that I really needed!
Thanks for this review! Thought I was doing some wrong with my H&S Evolution as its always had an inconsistent trigger point, its been driving me mad. What would you recommend an alternative would be for miniature painting? Leaning towards an Iwata Eclipse
Hey I just commented on that point, I had this exact problem for years, Iwata hpb series is the solution for me…I have them for years too.. the Iwatas don’t have this problem, they are fine for miniatures..Mine have 0.3 needles and they still are super precise, i was wondering about this fact years ago, but they are still super precise…
I use to like H&S not any more the infinity is on the shelf and that's where it stays and as for the cult of paint I ordered one At £212 when I got it the front end was welded on it wouldn't come off and the body of the cult is aluminium so I sent it back to the supplier It was a three month wait to get my money back and I only got it back by contacting h&s itself and complaining to them to get on to there supplier So after that I will never pick up use or recommend h&s again
I haven't heard of that one before!! was it welded intentionally? if so, how would you replace the nozzle? I kind of like the idea of an all aluminum airbrush. I haven't tried any of these yet but will have to try one out some day. The must weigh nothing which sounds interesting to me.
I was going to buy one of these but after seeing the DRED FX review I went for a Mr Hobby PS-289 (.3mm) and also the PS-270 needle and nozzle (.2mm). So for the same price as the Infinity I got 2 sizes. Waiting for my skills to improve before I get either a Takumi or 771. I do have an H+S Evolution Silver line which is a good brush but I prefer the trigger response of the Mr Hobby. Great to see 2 fantastic artists in conversation. Much respect guys!✌️
I agree, great airbrush, better value than Iwata too, and very versatile. I've yet to try my version 2 needle and nozzle set up, it's supposed to have the edge - and yet others state its stronger but no different in terms of the take up point. You are right Iwata's seem to have the edge in that regard. But in the UK an equivalent Iwata is a lot more money than a H&S airbrush (I have two). I've also several Sparmax too, for larger scale models (base coats etc) and the like. The H&S are a lot better to strip down than many others, less fiddly, less tools required too.
I love my CR+, but for some reason I always get air leakage from the nozzle, and the trigger seems to get stuck down and lets air out. I have to pull the trigger up. 😢😢
Great video. Do you know anything about the H&S Ultra Airbrush 125503? I've seen the advertised for under $100 USD. And it includes a .2 and a .4 mm needles. For a H&S, what a lot of airbrush artists consider one of the top manufacturers. I've seen quite a few of your videos looking to buy my first airbrush (leaning towards the Iwata Neo CN) and respect your opinion. Thank you.
Not yet, but I will be ordering some new H&S airbrushes to review. I think they make some of the nicest airbrushes out there today. The neo is an outstanding airbush. A great option for sure. Best of luck to you!
I have come to the same conclusion. It's a great looking brush but I just couldn't get on with it. Tip dry was also a big problem. However the one thing i find it excels for me is using the optional splatter cap. You can get very good granular textures using it. Also I use the screw on small cup for the micron takumi cup connector. Harder and steinbeck are owned by iwata so this part is interchangeable.
funny you say that, I also put the smaller cup on my takumi! allows me to get closer without the cup bumping into the painting. I have to try that splatter cap someday. Thanks Ken.
@@Rise_Studio OK not sure.... but to use the splatter cap I have you remove the nozzle and replace it with the splatter cap .... I have the older infinity but replaced the original nozzle and needle with V2 and works OK. But perhaps there is something different with the latest infinity.
I have parts for an Infinity and Evolution. I noticed the Infinity trigger (with the holes) seems to have a flat spot on the back side of the arc (the side that articulates with the needle housing). The Evolution trigger (solid) seems to have a more circular arc that articulates with the needle housing. I switched them out and only use the Evolution trigger in the Infinity. It seems to me the Evolution trigger has a better response/feel to it. The Infinity trigger (holes) has a delay for releasing paint.
Hi, thank you for the video! I also always found the inconsistency of the trigger very anpying. Give a look to the channel of Dred FX custom paint (I've no connection with the channel, I'm just a viewer), he made a video on a fix to make the trigger of the infinity more responsive (can't paste the link here) . I'm going to try it soon, in case I can keep you posted. Thanks again, great contents! S.
Adding an o-ring on the part that gets into the trigger solves this 100% - but even better, put a spring from $1 pen into it and the problem is gone without ANY additions. The spring on some H&S is just mismatched as unbelievable as that is.
I wonder what would cause inconsistency on the pull-back. Maybe it's slipping in the trigger a bit sometimes? Maybe there's a way to tighten that up a bit.
Unfortunately that is not the problem. The trigger is well connected to the needle via the chuck. When you pull back on the trigger, the needle is perfectly in sync and moves along with it. The problem has something to do with the nozzle I think. Possibly pressure that builds up within the head and pushes some paint back a tiny amount which would affect the start of each trigger pull. I'm no engineer and know nothing of fluid mechanics so I'm just speculating.
I"m very disappointed with cr+ with inconsistency of the trigger. I bought this airbrush for detail painting and it is impossible to paint fine details There is a workaround on UA-cam how to solve this problem - putting the extra ring for better trigger response, but hey i paid 300 euros to make it work.. Nonsense
This version 2.0 is actually not new. I think it has been on the market for several years now. I bought the same airbrush this spring and I got this needle and by then it was in airbrush shops here available for quite some time. Speaking about build quality, I think the first half of the airbrush from its nozzle to back is well engineered, but I didn’t like the fact that cover of the second half is from cheap plastic and while it works it looks and feels cheap. I believe that considering the price they should have made it all metal. I have cheaper airbrushes, which are all metal, this one is expensive and yet fells like some crapy 40 USD Fengda. 😢
That's correct. It was announced in late 2018 and released in 2019 I believe. It's new for me though as my last review of this airbrush was with the old needle design. I believe the rear handle is aluminum, making it very light. Def not plastic! I actually love the way it's made.
I have the Micron Sb, HP BH and HP-CH. The Infinity 0.15 is better than them by far. With the 0.20 needle the same as the HP. The atomisation is smoother and without any droplets. If I had bought the Infinity earlier, I wouldn't have bought Iwata. Important, with acrylics, high dilutions and retarder. If you work freehand without stencils, it handles like a pencil.
A micron isn’t half as good as the harder steenbeck. The quality, feel and paint is just better. I own both and I have t used my micron in 2+ years. Truthfully I use my sotar moe then any airbrush.
Beautiful looking airbrush but has only caused nightmares for me, clogging very very fast even with lacquer type paints and 0,4 mm nozzle and needle, i wonder if they're even tested like the Iwatas, a huge disappointment for me but i can understand i'm in the huge minority
I would understand getting tip dry and clogging with the .15 since it's tiny. But if you are getting clogs with lacquer paint and a 0.4 needle the problem isn't the AB (unless something is broken), it's either, you are doing something wrong or the paint isn't thinned correctly.
@@xample222 Yes but i tried multiple ways even thining until water like consistency to see and it always clog or nothing came out, spend 30 minutes airbrushing and 1 hour cleaning to unclog it every time, tried advices on multiples forum nothing worked, even bought multiple needled and nozzle to see where the problem was so i just sold it and gave up
@@kromysol2189 That's weird specially since lacquer shouldn't clog at all (on big needles at least) because the solvent/thinner in the fresh pain will reactivate the dry paint. So maybe you got unlucky and got a defective AB.
the problems with H&S is exactly the difference between German and Japanese engineering. Germain stuff are great IF you use it as THEY intended. Japanese engineer stuff as how YOU would use it. this 'problem' is not a problem to H&S, this is how they designed their airbrush to work, which is why rather than "fixing" the problem, they charge you for a couple of teflon washers instead of sending them to you for you. hard pass on H&S, I'll stick to my Procon
After watching this review No thank You. There will be NO Harder & Steenbeck of any type or model for me. I'll stick to the old IWATA Elipse HP - CS Work Horse. Even a Badger and especially the Badger Patriot 105 looks like a better choice and both of them are a lot cheaper in price too but put out just about the same great results without different fluctuating paint spraying starting points. This review I can give a thumbs up but to the Infinity I will have to give a thumbs down.

Finally it came! Thanks for confirming that it is.
Evolution an Infinity are 90% the same airbrush... and nothing is better than iwata micron , or HP+ in HS catalog
Wonder if not having the back on may have affected response rate
Sadly had the same problem myself, bought as a backup for my Takumi micron but something just wasn’t quite right about the trigger for me!
I have another infinity with a .2 nozzle and it's the same thing. Seems to be the way H&S designed their airbrushes.
Any line type airbrushes single action siphop fed?
Infinity or Custom Takumi? Investing in one or the other. Is the spray lag not worth the savings on the Infinity? I'd locked in on the Infinity with DRED FX CUSTOM PAINT little teflon ring mod. But reading the comments here, now I'm not so sure - so which is it? All comments appreciated and, of course, GREAT VIDEO!
my opinion- micron all day
I was close to order one air brush.
It never went of, i wonder is it special
paint thats used in them? Or can you use
ordinary water colour?
Thank you for the guide!
I have to agree the responsiveness is still lacking with the v2 needles. Other than that its an excellent detail airbrush.
The new .4mm needle looks different from the old one, perhaps the new one is more noticeable for model makers (where .4mm is standard)
I use to like H&S not any more the infinity is on the shelf and that's where it stays and as for the cult of paint I ordered one
At £212 when I got it the front end was welded on it wouldn't come off and the body of the cult is aluminium so I sent it back to the supplier
It was a three month wait to get my money back and I only got it back by contacting h&s itself and complaining to them to get on to there supplier
So after that I will never pick up use or recommend h&s again
@@maquismark5852 👍cannot go wrong with a Creos
@@maquismark5852 nice one 👍
I agree with the comments about gsi creos. They are fantastic. I bought a few new ones a month ago, but still need to pick up that 270.
The H&S are a lot better to strip down than many others, less fiddly, less tools required too.
excellent value!
@@theartworkshop I agree, see my edited points👍✌️😊
Can anyone let me know if I can use the 0.2 needle with another branded air gun please?
I love my CR+, but for some reason I always get air leakage from the nozzle, and the trigger seems to get stuck down and lets air out. I have to pull the trigger up. 😢😢
that's normal and happens with every airbrush in time. just need to clean out the air valve assembly/trigger mechanism and replace a few o-rings.
Thanks Ken.
I also use the h&s small cup on my takumi. I've never used the giant cup that comes with the takumi.
splatter cap can use only old nozzle. it can’t use with nozzle v2.
@@Rise_Studio OK not sure.... but to use the splatter cap I have you remove the nozzle and replace it with the splatter cap .... I have the older infinity but replaced the original nozzle and needle with V2 and works OK. But perhaps there is something different with the latest infinity.
Should have said remove the air cap and replace with the splatter air cap
Is the v2 needle compatible with the v1 nozzle?
Yes!
Thanks for the video and well detailed review.........................
20 PSI?! I paint at 4-6. I feel Im doing something extremely wrong now :/
It's an amazing airbrush! I agree, the price is very good for what you get.
I have the CR Plus. I'm currently looking for the new needles now. Where can I get the new needles?
Maple Airbrush Supplies
Hi, thank you for the video!
I also always found the inconsistency of the trigger very anpying. Give a look to the channel of Dred FX custom paint (I've no connection with the channel, I'm just a viewer), he made a video on a fix to make the trigger of the infinity more responsive (can't paste the link here) . I'm going to try it soon, in case I can keep you posted.
Thanks again, great contents!
S.
Thanks! Yes, I'm aware of it and it works well to improve it. I talked about it in my latest video while discussing the H&S evolution
Dude, apply the fix already by adding some washers to the rear... loads of vids on it.
Just bought today
Adding an o-ring on the part that gets into the trigger solves this 100% - but even better, put a spring from $1 pen into it and the problem is gone without ANY additions. The spring on some H&S is just mismatched as unbelievable as that is.
interesting idea with the spring! thanks for this info.
Very good
Tenho um infinity muito bom
thanks!
Whoa! I thought I had a lot of airbrushes 😆
@@theartworkshop I think this would be a great question to bring to Harder & Steinbeck.
The best airbrush in the world
I"m very disappointed with cr+ with inconsistency of the trigger. I bought this airbrush for detail painting and it is impossible to paint fine details
There is a workaround on UA-cam how to solve this problem - putting the extra ring for better trigger response, but hey i paid 300 euros to make it work.. Nonsense
0 control. There is a fundamental design error in the trigger. 😢
If you work freehand without stencils, it handles like a pencil.
well said! It does have that pencil feel to it which I love. The atomization is incredible, I agree.
A micron isn’t half as good as the harder steenbeck. The quality, feel and paint is just better. I own both and I have t used my micron in 2+ years. Truthfully I use my sotar moe then any airbrush.
I paint minatures and the stop and go is a hard pass for me. Good review!
micro cup? no funciona el enlace😔
@@xample222 i think it was honestly.
The hardware is only as good as the user
the problems with H&S is exactly the difference between German and Japanese engineering.
New? A few years ago maybe 🤣
Your trigger finger is sliding over the trigger
lol Iwata now owns harder and steebeck
