    Love the setup! Which underquilt is that? I'm looking to replace mine as its my old sleeping bag with the hood removed 🤣

      It’s a ukhammocks underquilt. Unfortunately ukhammocks is gone now so you can’t get one, however there are a good number of cottage company’s who could knock you one up. If you like this video I’ve just made another like this, but in Scotland instead

    John I just looked you up after we spoke on FB yesterday, very bizarre to see your kayak stuff because I’m currently making a kayaking video too, only the 2nd time I’ve done that. Strange coincidence.
    Also bizarre is that your channel is still sub 1k, because this was excellent. Incredibly good. Enjoyed it, full of info.

    • @TheGrayExplorer

      Hey thanks, you’re very kind. As it happens what we were talking about yesterday would have been perfect for this video, as a transition between the days. The sub count is probably higher than I deserve tbh, I see the retention graphs and I need to really work harder, but thank you! Thanks for checking my work out 💪

    Great video john. I was up there on Thursday night in my hammock, had the island to myself.

      It was really windy there on Friday, had planned to paddle the full Lake but with a 2ft swell, it was canny scary, se just went up the river derwent as far as I could get👍

    Catapult? In US that is a “sling shot.” Good to see someone else taking their coffee seriously.

    This is epic! 🌟🌟 We might try and give this a go! You mentioned SUPs, reckon you could do it on one?

    • @TheGrayExplorer
      @TheGrayExplorer  2 роки тому +1

      I’ve never been on a sup so my advice will be rubbish. However a couple turned up on a sup with there dog had a wander around and left. If your kit was small and light I would say it was doable. Depends on how much weight your sup can float and if you can get the combined weight of you and your gear below that limit. Try and it and tag me in it mate!

    Brilliant, is it legal to camp there or is it do at your own risk sort of thing?

    • @TheGrayExplorer
      @TheGrayExplorer  Рік тому +3

      Wild camping isn’t legal anywhere in England now, but I’ve camped there 3 or 4 times at my own risk. I find the general rule of thumb is don’t act a d*** and you’ll be fine

    Hi, great video. Is it possible to get to the island using one of the small 2-person motor boats you can hire or would you have to be on a canoe/kayak or similar? Thank you

    • @TheGrayExplorer
      @TheGrayExplorer  Рік тому +1

      Totally get there on a hire boat. Youd not be able to spend the night, I think I mentioned in the video they don’t hire overnight. But there’s plenty of landing spots to get into it. Have fun

      @@TheGrayExplorer Thanks very much for replying. Really appreciate it. I'm an author and have just started a new series set near Derwent Water which involves someone going to the island, ideally for a quick trip, but didn't want to put a hire boat and somebody leave a bad review saying it wasn't possible!

    • @TheGrayExplorer
      @TheGrayExplorer  Рік тому +1

      @@jessicaredland6904 you can’t land at the north of the island either, the lake bed is super shallow there. I spent a good couple of nights there if you need more info just give me a shout
