Great video Martin. Good job on the fuel line repair. The head lining was worth a try but it's better just to fit a new one and be done with it. Cheers, Jeff.
Hi Martin, I brought this kit over a week ago, and it come with some instructions, it looks pretty similar to yours. it mentioned that the fluid is heat sensitive, and tests over 5mins or too hot can cause the fluid to go green. yellow is the typical colour it should go if exhaust gases are present. I'm happy to sent you the info I got with my kit. Andrew
It might be branded Vauxhall but this is originally an Opel car which was designed and released when GM was at the helm so it’s a German car designed by the Americans badged as an English marque.
Oh headlinings, had some fun with them over the years lol I remember when I replaced the headlining on my Saab 99 Turbo by using spray adhesive I got off a carpet fitter mate and used an old cotton sheet from me mums airing cupboard, did the job admirably. Think the worst I ever had was my old Rover SD1 3.5 Vandem Plas the foam stuff rotted around the little plastic plugs and it literally dropped on me like a demented ghost going up the M3, luckily I kept presence of mind and just pulled over, ripped it all out and shoved in boot, seemed to be Rover stuff was bad as my Rangie was the same sort of foam rubbish that just collapsed. Never had a problem with Ford headlinings and never been a Vauxhall lover having only a handful of me long years I never kept 'em long enough to have probs with lol (I got kinda turned off Vauxhall's when my seemingly immaculate Carlton on a B plate I was leaning on the boot lip and it all collapsed in a cloud of rust, the whole boot panel section from rear wing to rear wing was rotted out from within and this was a Lotus too :( )
Stick some K Seal in there. Brilliant stuff. I had a little leak in my Vectra C, but could never find where it was losing the coolant from. This stuff sealed it, and never had to top it up again.
You did well Martin with the fuel pipe and that was a good idea you were given using the tap and for the lining you don't find out till you try it out i had a discovery with the same thing caused with water leaks from sunroofs had to take lining off to clean and repair the drain pipes and then fitted a second hand lining think i payed £20 from breakers.
1 all on the jobs front isn't a bad result ! Have to agree with some other comments, that test fluid wasn't the same shade when you ended the test. Great content Martin. 👍😀
Them fuel filters get Neglected all the time. Yeah It's project man he came to help I did ask him to Told him he should help his old man out. Nice one mate good job sorted the old Vauxhall. Got to hate a sagy old head linner. The old Rovers where bad for it.
A K-seal test before replacing the head gasket would be interesting. I haven't seen one on youtube where they do a before and after combustion gas test. When I saw you produce that bottle of yellow liquid I wondered if you were going to test if you were still in ketosis.
@@markellis4229 I'm very dubious about these miracle fixes. If the manufacturer demonstrated a long term, before and after, result some of them may be a bit more believable. They never seem to. These days I'd trust an independent youtubers opinion over a manufacturers advertisement.
@@testingtimes7924 I’ve never trusted miracles in a bottle I just end up doing it the proper way most of the time it’s not good repairing Head gasket but it’s good blocking all the water galleries in the engine and radiator
Hi Martin great video, I glad you added the headlining bit, it was honest footage that things do go wrong. My Subaru Impreza has the same issue with head lining mine also has a sunroof I’m tempted to pay to get it done properly . Good work saving the pipe 🙂👍
Good job on the fuel filter. Trouble with the headlining is the foam back seperates so leaves thin material. Only way is to remove and recover it really.
well done doing the fuel pipe without dropping the tank, the pipe on my corsa has the fitting on both ends, unlike the vectra only has it on one end, (didnt notice that in the first vid) so that be why i had to drop half the tank, great vid fella, ya always busy.
Clad you got the pipe sorted by the way I use a table spoon of dishwasher soap in my windscreen bottle it is cheaper than what you used from South Africa thank you for sharing your wonderful videos
It’s a good job you can do an head gasket yourself Martin. When that’s happened to any of my cars I just get rid. Far too expensive to have it done professionally. 😬
Soon as you was gonna say use a tap was thinking the same lol. Suprised you didn't use a wire pull or coat hanger to tape the pipe to , good tasks as usual well done 👍do you remember the old colour tune I remember my dad using that gadget lol cheers.
@@retrorestore Ahh yes you did that's prob what reminded me of it again when you did the coolant thing on this video. Did you ever come to a conclusion on the brake pipe thing on the triumph or do you think it was duff part ?
“Jobs a good un “ with that fuel pipe. Are you sure that old exhaust gas testing fluid wasn’t your last urine sample 😂 Great content as usual and you’re looking well mate 💪👍
That headliner was ever only going one way lol.. easy enough to drop liner being a hatch back though? Just slide it out the boot. Would be a good how to video.
I've the same problem. Pulled out fuel filter, and I think all the innards of the clips on the car came out with it. Both ends! I'm thinking of just cutting connexions off and putting fuel pipe from filter to the pipes on car. Cant see any other option
Would like to see you fitting the headliner as I have to do it on mine and also I think there is a small leakage in your car as it went green/looked like it was still changing color so think it could have a leak
Hey Martin I've just picked up one of these block testers for my vauxhall Corsa, how hot should you run it? Becuase running it until thermostat is open it would be about 105c, wouldn't that be dangerous to do with cap off (overflow wise) thanks.
I know it’s done now but it might have been better to have put it in some hot water You might have been better to have removed the interior lights and spray it around would spray more glue out I think the needle wouldn’t spray too much out for it to adhere to it
Well Vauxhall messed that up even if the car is a 18 years old it shouldn't be doing that with the headliner and regarding the combustion leak test, i'm no expert but to me there was tinge of green
@@retrorestore mine failed MOT last week with 2 droplinks, broken rear spring and handbrake cable snapped on offside but all these are rather common on vectra c. My thermostat has also given up the ghost but there like £40-70 for a new one because the're electronicly controlled
You would of been better off pulling the headlining out pulling all the fabric off it brushing all the flaking foam off both surfaces and then re-gluing the fabric back on common problem with GM vehicles with cloth headlinings because they used a thin foam between the fiberousbacking and the finish fabric and over time the foam breaks down and headlining drops
Trim fix is the best adhesive to use because of the high temperature properties. The sun heats up the roof and the glue breaks down leaving the headliner sagging. Ive covered one, it came out amazing. Have a look here. instagram.com/p/CENDmqIFgFJ/?igshid=101z3bjyhltrc

I do have the info Andrew. I'll read it again to make sure.
Sagging headlining seems to be a tradition on British cars. At least you had a go at fixing it.

is it me or when he removed the coolant test it looked green like blue and yellow was mixed?
Watching the video back, Yes I think you are right.
Definitely looks like it was changing colour. I just put it down to video settings.

martin give the headlining a go with a houshold iron could be enough to reheat glue already there and tack it again
I've ordered new lining Paul

Fantastic tip wow great repair
nice job Martin
Definitely Martin,as other ones have said ,combustion leak ,take care pal
Yes, After watching the video back I agree. Looks like another job on the horizon lol.
Great video Martin, would lick to see the head lining after a day or 2, just to see.
Evening Mart ,that head gasket is on its way out, as it had gone green in colour
Watching the video back, I think it was a bit green. I think it might need a head gasket soon.
Yes sorry Martin but head gasket needed soon. When you add in the water in exhaust as well. I can tell your instinct is telling you something is up
Trim fix is superb stuff but you need to let it go tacky (1 - 2 mins) before pressing the surfaces together. Try again!
I know that but I've ordered new lining and will use it properly when I remove the old lining
Headlining was worth a go.
Great Vid Martin 👍 last car i had with sagging headline i just used drawing pins as i only used it as a work car
