  • I resigned after 13 years as a state trooper to become a content creator and woodworker. This is our leap of faith. I started this UA-cam channel in May 2017. Four years later I made a very hard decision to try woodworking and content creation as my full time job. That meant giving up a guaranteed pay check, pension, and insurance to chase my dream. I had to chase this dream. I couldn't let it die with me. This is my story.

Dear Mat today you saved me. I have battled suicide and depression for many years and even though I have a wife and 2 beautiful child that I love I still fight this demon on my back. I started woodworking to help me with my battles and most days I get no where. But today as I felt I was losing the battle and possibly the war I watch a video you did about being a woodworker and fighting Goliath. I watched it over and over till the point it felt like you were talking to me. I just want to say from the bottom of my heart thank you so for all that you have done and do on here. I truly hope the best for you and your family on this new journey in you life and cant wait to see the videos.

I just turned in my retirement paperwork after 15 years of being a correctional officer. As I drove away I felt both relieved and sad because I was never going to walk through those gates again. I started to choke up when you had to pause because that feeling was brought back to the front of my mind.

I'm watching this late at night, and my heart was torn when you became emotional about walking away, because I know how you feel. I retired one year ago, after 25.5 years with a large department. God impressed upon me it was time. He began working on me three years ago, when a suspect fired at me numerous times, attempting to kill me. My wife told me "You never would have left, they would have had to carry you away" That was hard to hear, but I agree.
I have a desire to start a small woodworking business. I have a garage full of wood, and second hand tools, but I am stumped by a fear that what I produce will not be good enough. I keep coming back to your videos, and I appreciate them. I remember you saying something to the effect of "just get out there and build something" Thank you for what you do, and the inspiration you give to so many.
P.S. thank your wife for telling you to keep that part in the video. God bless you, and your family.

Wayne, brother, never be afraid of Anything as God will be right next to you guiding you to finishing what you have begun. Put all your trust in him, as hard as it may be to understand he will not let you fail. I was supposed to die Nov. 17th 2018, from a heart attack, even my cardiologist told my family that I had been a deadman walking. I had a 99% blockage as well as an 80% blockage in two arteries. On Nov. 17th, I was on my way to see my son compete at a national body building event when my heart attack occurred. I did not know what was going on because a month before I was given a clean bill of health. I was walking to the event location when all of a sudden I felt a HUGE pain in my jaw and as I kept walking it creeped down to my chest and across my body and my 3 foot walking stride came down to a three inch creep, all I did was prayed. Without giving up, I did make my peace with God, I told him I was fine going if that was his will. I did ask to see my son once more and for me not to be the reason why he would have to miss or not do well in his first national event. I immediately felt like a blanket cover me and I began feeling well. Within seconds, I began walking, the pain went away. I knew I could not be looking normal from the Horrible pain I had endured, so I walked slow and thanked God for helping me. What I do know is he listened to my prayer, what I wanted and what I did not want for that day and he held me that entire day; that was the blanket I felt, his hands covering and carrying me. The day went on and I enjoyed every minute with my son and saw him compete. Four days later I was in the hospital (because I had a couple more episodes of pain) that’s where I found out I had suffered heart attacks and what caused them. God will never leave you alone as long as you let him know that he is in charge of everything, every second of the day. I’ll leave you with this… three months after my stents were implanted and while doing my cardio therapy, I told my therapist that before the heart attacks I had been planning on doing a 5K at a church event so he needed to find out what I needed to do to continue with my plan, with some hesitation and recommendations from the therapist and approval from the cardiologist, they came up with a routine. I accepted and a month late I ran in that 5K. I came In 13th in my age category, when I found out, I fell apart (crying). It was God telling me that we were good, I was going to be fine, he had everything under control. The 13th to me is special, I was born on the 13th, my son was born on the 13th, my daughter was born on the 13th and on the same month as mine (natural births); God knows how special the 13th is to me. Stay safe and God bless. Your BIC, JC.

Man I found your videos a couple years back when my wife and I decided to tackle a dream I had. I used your advice and simplistic approach to build up a pretty fair little business. Due to life stuff, I had to quit building in 2020, but man, I still can’t get enough of your videos. As a fellow public servant of 20 years, I’ve felt the draw to go out on my own but I can’t make it happen just yet. Tonight I logged in and caught your video expecting a woodworking tip and man I gotta say you handed me just what I needed. My wife of 3 years is dealing with a lot of scary health stuff and hope/faith is a little sparse at the moment. Hearing your “I created the universe. I got this” caught me just right. Thanks brother. God’s got this. Who knew a woodworking channel could be the light I needed!?! Best of luck on turning it up a notch and the new venture!

I started woodworking after 6 months unemployed (with zero experience). I began working with no power tools. All I had was a hammer, some nails and a hacksaw. In less than one month, I bought a power impact drill/screwdriver, my mom bought me an orbital sander. I sold about 5 simple pallet projects, earned about R$ 250 BRL (Brazilian Real) and I keep receiving orders. If everything goes as planned, this friday I am going to buy a circular saw.

I have to say, it is great to see a UA-cam channel where there are faithful Christians following their calling. Not a lot of people would put their faith out there like that. You inspire me to do the same and not hide my faith under a rug. I know God will be saying to you "well done good and faithful servant" and I hope to hear that as well. Thank you for your content.

It does my heart good to see true love and other lasting marriages. It just makes me feel so good to hear your story, and you and Amy together, can see how deeply you both love and respect each other. The way it should be. I believe Faith has to be the leading point of marriage. You have that and it's beautiful to see. My husband and I met at 13 y.o. (both). We married at 18, 48 years ago. We lived , learned and are still so much in love, like you both, respect and support each other to the fullest and listen to the good Lord in all we do. Wonderful to see such good people so much in love and faith. That's what makes your channel above so many. May God continue to bless you and Amy, your life and marriage.

Thank you for your public service, too. And, THANK YOU for remembering God. I have given up being a Travel OR Nurse to get back in to making things. I work with a friend and do construction, I do foster care every other weekend in a foster home (Abbott House in SD), and am converting a garage into a shop. I know I can do this, but it is good to see others who have done this and are doing this.

Like you I hope to advance in skill and make quality products for my friends and family to enjoy. Money isn’t the goal, improvement is. So please let me take this journey of self-improvement with you brother! It will be a great time to watch you grow. I hope I can keep up!

I stumbled on your channel a few months back during the Covid lockdown. Yours is one of the channels that inspired me into woodworking. I always enjoy you videos and you always seem truly honest and humble. I knew right away I had to subscribe to your channel. I am not a religious person whatsoever, but I do find your faith and passion in your god soothing for lack of a better term. I am just a fellow woodworker from Massachusetts and I don't pray, but I wish you and yours all the best. Looking forward to many years of your videos.

I knew this day was coming from the enthusiasm and deep love of the craft you show in your videos. I hit a dead spot in my road last September and turned to woodworking completely out of the blue. I hadn't done anything remotely related since junior high more than 40 years ago. My wife didn't understand at all. It wasn't until February, when I was diagnosed with a complex form of PTSD that I began to understand what was happening to me and I could begin to share enough for her to understand. My first 731 project was a noodle board. I ended up making 5 of them, selling 2 on order. It wasn't a lot, but it kept my head above the waves. Thanks for that. God bless you, brother. You do deserve it because you've invested the better part of your spirit and God sees that. We need more people like you on this planet!
