*Used to supplement the up stairs when it gets hot outside this works very well and **Fastly.Cool** Also works good when the upstairs gets too hot in the Winter from the heater.*
I had a Bryant central air. When it went out my HVAC contractor talked me into an Amana system. He told me it had a lifetime warranty. About 8 years later the compressor when out. He told me no problem and brought me a brand new one, no charge. I called Amana which is made by Goodman air conditioner company here in Houston and ask them if they still give lifetime warranty on their units. They said anything with a 16 SEER rating and above. They said in the future if it goes out just let the HVAC company know and they will replace the unit FREE ! You can't beat a deal like that.
I bought two Trane AC units (one for rental, one for my home). Rental unit malfunctioned and $146. part plus service call. Unit at my home leaked and caused extensive damage to carpet & wallboard. Refunded $8oo.+ plus from Trane headquarters for damage. Buy at your own risk!!!!
I have watched a couple of your videos on tranes. Models XB 16 seer XR 16 seer. So will you tell me what the difference is and which is a better to have in my home?
wmitchell51 The XB is a builders model that is what the B is for in the model number, the XR has better hail guards on them but is the same unit. I would say stay away from both of these units if you are looking into comfort and efficiencies. Let me say this to you all units are built the same way and have to go through the same testing that's a fact. What you should be focused on is the HVAC contractor will he do the job correctly? I will tell you more than likely not, there are sciences that are into play whenever you go to install a new system. Take a heat load for instance there three things that effect your your particular tonnage of unit, they are square footage, windows and air infiltration, most contractors won't even bother with a heat load. Those that will get it wrong because of the air infiltration this requires a blower door test most don't own one, that is the only way you will know how much air is moving through your house because your HVAC system will have to deal with that and does. Then there is the duct system you need to know how much air is leaking from that and if it's properly sized to flow the air for the properly sized equipment. Then and only then can you make an educated decision. This is coming from a former Trane technical service rep. that lives in Phoenix and owns my own HVAC company and travels the country teaching HVAC for a company out of Colorado call TPC Trainco. This guy sounds like a Trane salesman because he is, we used to call it Trane washed when I worked there.
Larry you are exactly right. The first thing I was taught in school was how to calculate the heat load of a given space. That is really the only way to properly size a unit. And also, If you live in the northeastern part of the US, heat pumps are not as effective as using a straight furnace, but they will never tell you that because they want to make as much commission as possible.
Hi there, would i be better off paying 1500 more for a 2 stage XL17i vs 1 stage XL16i? I live in Montreal so the weather is like to Minneapolis. Thanks.
Explain one thing to me, my installer has given me quotes for the Xr17 and XL18i heat pump. Been told they are both basically the same units. One has a top and the other doesn't, If they are basically identical why would Trane make two of the same thing? and I have also been told the XL18i is slightly more efficient, why would that be?
I think the XL is a 2-stage compressor. It allows the outdoor unit to run at a lower capacity when not required allowing it to remove more humidity before hitting the set point.
They are both 2 stage and I am right now trying to determine what the heck the difference really is, other than the top and 12 year compressor warranty on the xl18i
Is the XR series of condensers all heat pumps? I'm looking at a house with XR13 condensers and I neglected to check and see if they're heat pumps for heating the house.
Trane are junk now.. save your money and buy a different brand.. I had a $10,000 Trane XR17 system put in by them. Purchased and Installed by an Authorized Trane Dealer, Larson Air Conditioning, Scottsdale, AZ. Nothing but problems from day 1. Had to replace the Heat Pump after 3 weeks. Brand new and leaking from the factory. Then it took over a year to fix a problem that would cause it to quit cooling (over 12 times in the first year). My 15 year old no name AC system I took out was way more dependable than this Trane system. Then the Air Handler coil broke in year 2. I called Larson Air Conditioning and they sent a service rep out.. said all my Freon was gone.. they said it leaked out somewhere.. he could not find the leak he said... said it must be under my concrete floor since he couldn’t find it... he offered me a $300+ test to do a UV test.. I knew the chances of that were almost nothing so I called BS. .. so I told him to fill up the system with freon which cost me $900. 2 days later no cooling again.. Fed up with Larson I called another Trane dealer for a second opinion.. in 10 minutes he found that the Air Handler coil was leaking...thats where all me freon was going.. outside in the condensate line.... but Larson guy couldn't find it? while the coil in under warranty (but backordered for over 3 months and counting.. still not in) it would cost me $2500 for the freon and labor to have the coil put in. . So during the first year with all the problems ... so by year 2 it would cost me $3500 to fix this Trane AC system that’s “Under 10 Year Warranty” And don't expect any support from Trane Customer Relations either.. after 2 months of repeated requests from Trane Customer Relations for a refund or any financial assistance.. they say they cant help ANY. So Im left with no option but to leave this unfortunate and honest review. I have since removed the 2 year old Trane system (coil has been backordered for over 3 months and still not in). No coil.. No heat in winter… I was forced to take out the Trane POS and install new Carrier system which has run flawless.. The current Trane isn’t the old Trane that had a good reputation ever since bought out by American Standard. “Its NOT hard to stop a Trane”
@@toshibavoodoo I put a Carrier in after I took out the Trane,, in Phoenix we just set a record of 30 days over 110 and not one hiccup out of the new Carrier.... ida been F'd with that Trane in there
Ted, I see you recorded/posted this video 12-12-13. Upgrading an old American Standard, I've been quoted a price (just north of $6k) for an xr-15 ... so here's my question; is the xr-15 a new series ? -or- one that was discontinued ? Steven
We have a fairly new TRANE 3 1/2 Ton Heat Pump and nothing but trouble since being installed. So bad that we have to make monthly repair installments to the local dealer in Smithfield, Va. (Hard for a fix-income retired person) Wished we had chosen another brand.
Ted, Somewhat dismayed. I just called your business with a relevant question. The phone was answered by a rather polite woman. I asked to speak to you, and after stating I was calling from my @Gulf_Harbors on Florida's Gulf with a question regarding one of your (this) youtube videos, then being put on hold, I was advised to contact a local Trane dealer. The point I'm making here is that I found you to be a knowledgeable source on a specific topic, and even though from Florida, had a question seeking an answer. As I too am on youtube, I have often been contacted regarding my knowledge (waterfront real estate) from those around the Country, Canada, and further, though always willing to assist those I can - just sayin. Steven Zimmerman
Trane is truly the best
Finding Lemmon units is not hard anymore with trane products

We live in sun city fixed income I'm interested in the 17 model not moving till I die , I will be calling you for a deal .
Cost of xl18i heat pump and a 5ton handler variable speed
I wish someone would give some average prices for this stuff. Everyone acts like it some government secrets
This isn't a review. It is a description of products, features and typical capabilities.
Good analogy of SEER & MPG! Easy to understand for most people 👍
