Hi Guys and thanks for the intriguing review. I would like to know why the RS "is a bit disappointing" ? Is it just over the instrument display? Or is it a certain hard to describe something else? It set me wondering. What is it that's leaves reviewers wanting to like the machine but still feeling a bit underwhelmed?It might sound a bit nuts, but I think each bike has its own sort of (subjective) "grooviness" quality that is not overtly talked about in reviews. - The whole being greater than the sum of parts, etc - Obviously its a bit elusive. Some machines look great but ride ordinary and vice versa. In this regard I would think perhaps the R9T could be high in "grooviness" as would perhaps say the GS and Ducati Scrambler? Riding (long) highways the innate "good vibrations" of the machine bond with the rider is very apparent after an hour or two in the saddle. So is it or isn't it, a rewarding experience after a 2 hour run, or not? Do you smile after you get off and look back at it? Does the engine have character and finesse, ie., some endearing personality with its power delivery? Why not rate these "actualisation" qualities along with usual key overt handling, braking and acceleration type qualities?
I think its just because it's a bike which has been designed to do both - sporty riding and touring. For e.g for almost similar money you could get a hardcore street bike like the monster or a purpose built super sport or a tourer or a GS . Or you could get an R9T with is a really nice retro cafe racer.
Having contemplated on my options I ended up buying the R12000RS simply because for me it is an excellent bike for what I want to use it for. Bikes are always like that in my opinion ; they are plenty of excellent selections out there but we go for a bike which we like at the time of choosing based on what we want at the time . I wanted a boxer engine and I like the looks of the RS. I like the sporty handling and the touring capability without going full tourer like the RT which to me felt boring. A GS to me also looks silly for town riding unless you want to go the Ewan McGregor and Charlie route. This is what I think now! Im sure this will change when I get older or if I need the bike for a different application.
In summary , go with what you like but look around and take your time. I hope I'm not rambling here LOL
I agree. Going with an analog speedo and a digital tach was a bad idea.
i much prefer both in analogue...but hate digital speedos - have an R and dont have a problem with the dash ...and just bought an RS too as they are such a nice BMW to ride...best gearbox of any BM i have owned and very smooth, quiet and powerful when needed.

Danke KOT dafuer dass du mal aussprichst, was wohl jeder denkt, wenn er dieses Display sieht .. einfach unterirdisch fuer ein Motorrad dass ansonsten sehr huebsch gelungen ist. Das gleiche Teil wird leider ueberall bei BMW verbaut..
