It wasn't until listening to this podcast that I realized that there is a direct parallel between Prometheus of Ancient Greek mythology and that of Satan (Lucifer) of the Christian faith. I had always thought that Jesus was based of of Prometheus because he sacrifice himself to help mankind. However, it is more similar to Lucifer giving Adam and Eve the fruit (knowledge), and was cast from heaven while Prometheus stole fire from the heavens and gave it to man. Both suffered eternal damnation for defying god (Zeus) in order to help mankind. Its funny how it turns out that the hero of the Bible is actually Satan since he truly sacrificed himself form mankind while Jesus (who is god somehow) didn't since god can never die. Also, Satan never kills anyone in the bible, ever. It is god who is the sociopathic, genocidal murderer.
That is my point exactly. He was the hero of the story, first by out smarting Zeus with the way people sacrificed to the gods (bones wrapped in fat rather than the good stuff) and then stealing the fire (sometimes referred to as knowledge like the apple) to give the man. Prometheus was always my favorite myth in the Greek Mythology.
Satan wouldn't make himself obvious by starting a Satanic Temple, that's for damn sure. if he did exist, could see him in the face of Kenneth Copeland for sure.
When they say that their first thought when the 10 commandments came down was "I hope it wasn't an atheist", it reminds me of in Infidel, when Ayaan Hirsi Ali says that after 9/11, her first thought was "I hope it wasn't a muslim".
Are you fixing serious Hemens? Less than five minutes in and your already interrupting, you can't let him finish talking and answering a question you asked? That is so incredibly annoying, I hope you don't keep that up, I wouldn't tolerate it more than once politely. Because it's ignorant, annoying, arrogant, and immature.
Sorry but I really just view these people as another FSM group. Their message is similar and a good one, but they're not much different besides the subject matter.
Well, the difference is the part of religion that they are satirical to. The Satanic Temple is focused on the church's involvement with the state, while the FSM are there to point out the obvious flaws in religious apologetics.
Atheism and theism and gnostic and agnostic are not the truth . Unity in impartiality is truth . Love the truth , do the truth , just do it , do it just . Peace and love . Non-violence .
Lucien Greaves runs the church and tells us to use his teachings in our own ways as an individual. He doesn't tell us what kind of economy we should have or what kind of sexual relationship we should have.
LInking atheism to Satanism in any way is non-productive. Interviewing this guy was a terrible idea. In the mind of the average Xian, they are similar...and they're not - and reinforcing the linkage is a really bad idea.
I respectfully disagree. Theists and atheists co-exist - no one's going to "win". Furthermore, I don't believe Xians are listening to the Friendly Atheist. If they are, then they already know the difference. I think atheists listen to the FA and I think we can learn a lot from our heathen kin.
3:01 - You don't have deeply held values if it is metaphorical, that is what makes it metaphorical. Your a humanist stop lying to yourself. Stop the hoax.
DRESSED UP HIGH ORDER PRINCIPLES AND VALUES ARE NOT HOAXES Their principles and values are as real as anyone else -- it is just wrapped in a metaphorical construct that represents and defends out-groups in what turns out to be a very acute and efficacious manner. Main-stream Christians were initially labeling them (maybe just two guys, if I recall correctly) as Satanists against their will and after thinking it through they realized that in many ways Satanism could be used as a superior moral metaphorical model so they decided to take ownership of the metaphor for themselves. Christians initially used the Satanist label to demonize them unfairly, as religious sects have often done to out-groups throughout history, and so they just made lemonade out of lemons. Why stop using the metaphor that overlays their principles? because it has been working so well? They are not pretending their metaphor is anything other than a metaphor, so where is the hoax? No, they should keep using the metaphor because it works so well and it is what they enjoy. The Satanic Temple is called the nuclear option and is a very effective contrast against those with beliefs that are largely emotion and fear based. The Satanic Temple may not be for everyone, but it drips with much the same real principles and values as humanist and other secular groups. No Hoax.
he's a good interview. he directly answers the questions they ask. so unlike a politician on a news show.

Yes, but Prometheus is a bad ass that for a while was able to beat the gods

You should read the Sumerian texts if you want to be intelligent.
Satan is a gentleman who never goes where he is not welcome.

Would any Satanist tell me what Nimrod and Artemis mean to them, please?

greenghost2008 It's what the dude said. If you contradict yourself on that level, i don't really want to hear the rest, but that's just me.
