I have been shopping Chico's for over 20 years. I love the styles from 15 to 20 years ago the best. And I still have those classics in my closet and receive many compliments when i wear them. For awhile, Chicos went more casual and that really didn't fit my wardrobe for my profession. But, I'm glad to see they are elevating their styles again. The Travelers pieces are so comfortable and packable. I've had them for almost 20 years. You will have a great time on your cruise. Half of the fun is just preparing and the excitement before you even leave the house. God bless you!!!
Hello Kay, my name is Becky, my husband and I are pastors of a church in Minnesota. I love your channel! I want to thank you for all that you share and for all of
the time that you put into making your channel one that is enjoyable to watch and at the same time very helpful. My husband and I have taken 2 Alaskan cruises, up the inside passage to Anchorage. We took the first one and then 5 years later took it again because we loved it so much. Our God is so amazing in all of His creation! Being from Minnesota I am used to cold weather, we took both cruises at the end of July, beginning of August, hoping to have the warmest weather we could! I was so thankful that I had brought along a pair of gloves and a scarf, along with my warm coats. Even standing out on the deck watching the incredible scenery I used both my gloves and my scarf. My favorite excursion was in Sitka, we took the original train up the mountain to the gold mine! I highly recommend it. The train feels a little rickety, but so authentic and a most interesting experience. I pray blessings on you and your husband:)
I 100% agree on a very warm coat, gloves (a must), and hat options, 1 for warmth, 1 for rain. There is big business in the port shops selling coats to unaware tourists. Won't need your bathing suit. Remember you're on the water in Alaska...rain/wind. But glorious!!! And borrow a blanket from the pool deck for wrapping up in on your balcony.

Kay, you usually do such a nice job with color. Being petite and slim I don’t think any of this works for me. I wear black & white sparingly with color, and these large prints would overwhelm and I feel age me. I grew up in Seattle, yes, it’s very casual but down to earth and authentic. I’d ditch the blazers and heels, pack a fisherman sweater, fuzzy socks, pants that cover your ankles, layers, comfy shoes and a hooded raincoat. 😊
Black and white don't work for me either. When I FINALLY had my colors done I saw so dramatically the difference--black and pure white age me 10 years! I find Chico's clothes difficult because they do tend to be boxy and really not optimize the figure.
I had to laugh in that I just watched the Priscilla movie where Elvis was telling Priscilla you are petite and colorful prints don’t work for you.
One of the best things I took along travelling in a colder climate is my cashmere wrap.
Chico’s has lovely clothes, however your showcase is applicable for on-board. The weather will demand layers and sensible shoes/boots. Don’t forget a scarf, mitts and warm hat. The Alaska cruise is wonderful with lots of eagles to view, bears and glaciers.
We've cruised Alaska 6 times and always enjoy dressing for dinner. Your Chico's ensembles are perfect choices for dining. My husband and I always eat in the MDR (main dining room) and enjoy a sit down leisurely meal. Just make certain you time yourself to have the opportunity to find seats for the evening entertainment in the theater. I'm spending a week in NYC in March and I might need to squeeze some of those pieces into my carry-on. Having traveled with the Chico's travelor pieces, I know they are wrinkle resistant and all coordinated to match in color. Have a wonderful 60th birthday cruise! Once you've cruised Alaska, you'll want to do it again!
I wore Chico's traveler's mix and match outfits for our Alaskan cruise in July. They were great for evening dinners. Layers, quick drying pants, and hiking shoes were best for day trips.
great looks. should be wonderful for on the ship activities. Just bring something really warm if you want to be on deck. I lived there for 25 years, and even in the summer it is really chilly on the water- think 40 to 50 degrees. Have fun!
Beautiful clothes! So chic. Hope you are not cold though! And you plan for rain! I have been to Alaska 3 times getting ready for a 4 th and it can be cold there in May! Have FUN. I am headed to DC on March so will be walking a lot. Excited to get away!
Travelers are The Best!
We were on an Alaska cruise last June and loved it. But I will say packing takes a lot of consideration. I can tell you I did wear everything I packed. We also spent time in Vancouver pre and post cruise. Enjoy

Did an Alaskan cruise way back in 2012 and it is still my favorite. About to leave for a 10 tour of Italy. I usually pack way too much and hope I can pack more resourceful this time. Thanks for all the tips and visually showing the outfits. Beautiful pieces that you got and you look great in them.

Love your black and white capsule. You look so classy and look so comfortable. Even the wide leg short pants look nice on you because of your height. Navy is so in and trending this year and it would look nice to have a capsule in this too, that I am leaning towards this year because I have worn so much black in the past.

Hi Kay, our extended family went on an Alaskan cruise several years ago. I was surprised you didn’t pack a few warmer coats and sweaters for your trip. We went in July and there were a few days when we had to layer T shirts, sweaters, and coats, and wear gloves and knit caps….even in July! Check the daily temperature forecast before you leave home or you’ll have to buy sweatshirts and sweaters in every port!

Great video Kay….i Love Chicos Travelers and own a couple pieces. We are going on a Transatlantic Cruise this November from Rome back to NY. This is our first Transatlantic Cruise. We will be only taking a Carry-On Luggage and a backpack! We will be gone for 18 days. I love having my luggage with me all the time knowing it won’t get lost. Have a Great time!🛳️

What a wonderful capsule wardrobe! The toppers/jackets you chose are different/unique enough that each outfit looks quite different from the others, even with the same or similar basics underneath. And such versatile pieces! I can see you getting a lot of wear out of this wardrobe.

I like your focus on a single basic, and then rounding it out with the peach, the beige the stripes. I was surprised by the number of toppers that you picked I tend to wear blouses with longer sleeves, and I enjoy wearing a vest, possibly two different vests to take along. You might need a raincoat and hat and umbrella. I also thought of shoes that can get wet and dirty because Alaska is not an asphalt jungle!
I like that you point out that you brought bracelets for me bracelets and earrings are way to bring jewelry but not have to pack or untangle a necklace and keep track of it etc. I might bring a ring or two to go with my bracelets and earrings and a few Clip on or something I can put on the neck of my dress to add a bright spot without adding a scarf.
My apologies, but I’m not a fan of this brand. It is too “mature”, the fit doesn’t work on me, and there are too many statement pieces. But, thanks for the video🙂

I wish the pant length was longer. Hard to get used to wider pants and boxy tops. More of a frumpy style. Love the poncho and poka dot jacket tho!
Your choices are fabulous for dinner but I wouldn’t aim to do anything off the ship. I think you’d freeze! We’re going in September so I’ve been doing lots of research on what to pack for Alaska and it’s cold, especially for us (we live in Australia). Make sure you take lots of layers, a waterproof coat etc. Enjoy your cruise and I’d love to see a video on what you packed vs what actually wear. Happy travels!

Perhaps not the best styles for Italy. Very hot and very chic.
FYI Alaska can be cold and wet at the height of summer. If you have a down jacket that scrunches up into a little bag, take it. Also a good water repellent raincoat, not just a pretty trench. I love the black and white in your wardrobe. I wore Chicos travelers when I was still working and I like the unstructured fit of the older pieces. However, I wish they were a lighter weight. As I get older, I need to pack light!

I love all the things you bought! And the thing you didn't buy, those wide leg cropped travel jeans! The pricing is a little steep for me, though. Does Chico's have sales? I hope so!

Honestly, you aren't planning warm enough clothes. You're going to freeze! I'm really astonished. You need warm sweaters, warm pants, at least one very warm coat, gloves, and a warm scarf.
I absolutely love the polka dot kimono! Can you tell me how that runs size wise? I’m in between sizes with Chico’s and wonder if I should size down. The travel pants with lace up sides are very versatile and flattering as well. I think I commented on your blog post that my husband and are also cruising to Alaska this summer, so I’m enjoying some of your clothing options to consider for this trip. Thank you.

Depending on the weather, take a pair of waterproof boots and a raincoat.
I agree on the cropped pant. Kay looks nice but a cropped pant cuts the legs up and shortens them.

We too are going on an Alaskan land tour and sea cruise later in the year. I recently stopped at Chicos and picked up 3 pieces in their Travelers in the Azore blue color. The selection is much bigger in black but it’s not a good color for me. My husband asked me where we we going that was so fancy!😊. The Travelers feel so dreamy to wear. As a petite person the selection is somewhat limited unfortunately. I’ve been told layers are key in Alaska as the weather changes quickly. Interested to see what you’ve chosen for the rest of your wardrobe!
We did an Alaskan adventure cruise in June 2021 with Uncruise. Not fancy, more of an REI crowd with lots of adventure off the boat, kayaking etc.
I was surprised how gorgeous the weather was! We went an entire week surrounded by nature and glaciers and very little civilization. It was crisp but refreshing temperature-wise. So much untouched beauty and mind clearing space to think. Alaska stole my heart!
Hi, Kay: I live in the Pacific Northwest. Just because most folks here don't dress up does not mean that you have to submit to their way of dressing. Your travel capsule is well thought out.and very stylish. We don’t have a Chico’s here in Vancouver, but I’m going to check it out when I’m in the US. My only concern is that you may not have some of the things you need for the weather and outdoor excursions. I would say a waterproof raincoat is a must, could be worn for travel or on the plane. A light one would be fine if you can layer warm wool sweaters underneath . We did a whale watching tour that was excellent but it was cold on the water. Essential too, are a pair of waterproof hiking boots or short hiking runners. (Brown) The white sneakers are great on the ship but will not be white very long for anything outdoors. ( dusty streets and muddy trails) A pair of dark jeans is essential too, but not cropped ones or the bugs will get you. Vancouver can be rainy or hot so prepare for either . It was hot last May. These are just some practical tips that you may have thought about that. will make your trip more enjoyable.

Love all your outfits. The heels is what I'm not sure about. Perhaps for dancing at night. I did not see anybody walking around on the ship in heels otherwise and definitley not in Alaska. I would take some more comfortable walkingshoes beside the sneakers.
They say you shouldn't have favourites, however you and Beth are my favourites. And i was going to say Americans, guess you both can trace your roots back to UK. Or at least one of you can.

Cute outfits and great color combo. I think black and beige together is great combo! I need to take a look at Chicos - especially the travel pants. My husband and I are kicking off our retirement chapter in June with a cruise to Norway, the fjords and Arctic Circle. We'll fly into London and spend 2 days there touring then travel to Southhampton to board the 14-day cruise. What to pack is quite the challenge! We'll do walking tours in London, and then hiking and touring in Norway will require layers for the colder weather, but I'll also need some elevated items for dinner on the ship. I remember you took a walking London tour - I need to look back and see what you packed!
My husband and I are celebrating our 40th anniversary in May by flying to London also. We are going to sightsee for 3 days, then boarding a ship in Southampton to cruise Ireland, Scotland and France. Really trying to choose the right clothes!

This video was so timely. I am ordering the jumpsuit! I own a similar dress. We are traveling in Nashville this March, the weather will be very nice during day, may need the toppers at night. My style preference are so close to yours. I'm height 5'2" and all about classics & comfort at age 60!! Thank you for all you do!
Love the outfits you’ve put together! I lived in Anchorage for a lot of years and May weather can be fickle. Lol our Memorial Day picnics included sunbathing by the river and huddling around the grill braving the cold wind off the inlet. It’ll be fabulous no matter what as long as your prepared.

Cute wardrobe, but you're touring coastal Alaska in the spring. You need some warm long sleeved shirts under your cute blazers and a warm sweater, warm socks, good walking shoes, waterproof rain coat. One tank will be more than enough, on the ship. Think early spring or late fall temperatures wherever you live.

@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms But you didn't mention those things. And heels for sight-seeing? I think you're going to regret some of your wardrobe choices. You're dressing for late spring / early summer in the midwest and it's kind of alarming. You probably don't want my advice, but you should take at least two warm sweaters, a warm coat, gloves, big wool scarf, warm pants, and socks. You can always take off layers, but you can't put them on if you don't have them.

A piece I highly suggest if you have one is a large black cashmere scarf. I've been on 2 Alaskan cruises and mine was used for everything from excursions to the balcony to even a nap. And my thin rain jacket with taped seams kept me dry over a cashmere sweater (in July). I'm so happy for you to go on a cruise for your birthday and that you're dressing up. I totally agree! Stay warm and dry....

Hi Kay, I was thinking I hope Kay does a travel video and then I saw this. This video is really OUTSTANDING with so many stylish ideas! My mother in law use to set aside clothes she just wore for traveling. I realize some of these pieces are a little expensive but then they could be kept for a long time. For some of your viewers purchasing some of these pieces at Chicos will make shopping easier. Maybe in the fall/winter you can do another videos on some added warm sweaters, scarves, etc. that can be added to these pieces. Your channel showing elegant and stylish pieces really help us elevate our look to be one step above that really helps us.
The choices were all cute and elevated. I haven’t worn Travelers for years. Maybe I should check them out again. I especially like the faux leather jacket with the striped shirt. The poncho is lovely too and versatile. How are you feeling about all silver or all gold sneakers? I’ve ordered several
I am leaving next week for Arizona for 18 days so your suggestions are very timely for me. Do try the Travekers jeans. They are just great…..very comfortable and don’t stretch out or bag I really love Chicos and talbots and I am also taking my travel pants from talbots you have suggested in the past.
We went to Alaska several years ago and we just loved the cruise and the land tours. I loved all the small plane rides to different locations. I think we ate halibut everyday and a lot of salmon. Be sure and be prepared for the mosquitoes at this time of the year. They can be brutal! The culture and history are wonderful and very memorable. I still have my totem pole souvenir that brings back a lot of great experiences to my mind
I also liked the blue and white dress from your recent blog post. I thought it screamed Alaskan!

I live in Scottsdale. I hope you have the Grand Canyon and Sedona on your places to visit. The weather has been amazing. in the mid 70's and 50's at night.
@@dianecyment1715 yes we are going to Tucson, Sedona, Grand Canyon and then to Vegas for 2 nights for some shows. Then back to Tennessee Never visited there so really looking forward to our adventure!
Be sure to take a warm jacket as Alaska can be chilly in May.

I loved all the items you chose. You look marvelous in each outfit. Using neutrals does give us more options when styling a capsule wardrobe. My husband and I took an Alaskan cruise in the 1990's. I am 67 now. It was an amazing trip. In fact, I, along with other passengers, was chosen to be in one of their nightly shows. I was playing Shirley Temple singing "On the Good Ship Lollipop." Costumes and dance moves were part of the performance. Of course we lip synced our assigned songs. It was a blast! Enjoy your trip. Alaska is truly the "Last Frontier." I am heading to NYC today visiting our daughter and grandkids. I will be wearing the last of my winter wardrobe.
I’m taking a cruise with my husband in the Mediterranean out of Rome and touring Italy, Greece, and France for ten days. We are also going to spend a couple extra days in Rome. I need ideas.
