Say a prayer for George. It's June 2018 and so sad to say that he is suffering from severe cognitive impairment to the degree he likely won't be with us much longer.
He and I have been friends for a while now, and every time I see him and talk with him, it becomes more apparent that he is in real trouble. The doctors did tell him they couldn't tell he had been a fighter. Age 80 and will be 81 in September, and for what he's been through, it's incredible that he's even still with us.
He took punches, oh my God did he take punches. 93 pro fights, 72 wins(63 ko's), 19 losses and 2 draws, and NEVER was knocked down nor ko'd in the ring...the only thing that came close to knocking him down was the tragic events of the loss of two children and his wife to suicide.
Last time I spoke with him was about three years ago when he was on another one of his tours to talk at schools about why suicide is always a bad option.
Say a prayer for him, he deserves it. Always kind to everyone no matter where or what he was doing.
God bless you, my friend. I love you and I miss you.
His kids are now forcing him into a divorce against his wishes from my mother (his current wife of 25 years). George has no clue what's going on. It's very sad, but there's a 9-day trial happening in May about all of this.
@I'll figure it out all of his properties are being sold because his own children are forcing him into a divorce. It's all over the news.
Basically my parents put the properties in my mother's name over their 25 years of marriage. His children from first marriage had him grant powers of attorney without her knowing. Then they used those powers to hire a divorce lawyer to force my parents into a divorce against their wishes, presumably, to get at assets held in my mother's name. George has been through so much in his life. For his children to be doing this now that he has cognitive impairment is just a very sad ending for him. He should be with his wife. We have been fighting for years to get him home.
I was with George two weeks ago at the Pegasus.. Shared a meal did some talking.. He's still got his memory to an extent.. This man is and will always be royalty for Canada.. Especially in Toronto..
@@jasonrideout4836 My mother (his wife) has not seen him since he was taken from her by the children of his first marriage who are trying to force my parents into a divorce using power of attorney. There's a 10-day trial scheduled to begin on May 13th that will determine the outcome of my parents' decades-long marriage. Neither wish to be divorced and neither filed for divorce. You'll probably read about it in the paper.
Chuvalo came from poverty and his family suffered so much but this man will never give up. What a cool guy. Any trainer would have taken this guy when he was young.
George Chuvalo is as gracious as he is tough.
My uncle Patrick was a big tough Toronto copper who used to spar with Chuvalo. George gave him a full-length mohair overcoat in appreciation and he in turn
gave it to my dad. I actually wore it on several occasions, and looked mighty fine doing so. Also, George would go around Toronto area schools and teach the
children about the evils of drugs, and both of my sons credit him with putting the fear of God into them about drugs, and they never got involved. George
is aces in my book.
Probably one of the best chins ever!!!
Chuvalo was a tough brother in the ring...RESPECT!✊🏽💯
Chuvalo my new favourite boxer of all time.. this guy underrratted..
He didn't have the right manager and body punchers don't impress the judges as much as head hunters. He was tough as nails though.
I am simply in awe of George Chuvalo.
*_I kissed a few girls, but I never kissed the canvas_*
I bet they lined up out the door lol
@aaron pryor and if there was no goal posts in football their would be no goals ya rocket .
aaron pryor You shut up, you Foreman fan-girl troll.
It's all perspective. When you're 20, you can't imagine 80. When you're 80, 20 seems like the blink of an eye.
😳 he took hits from Ali, Frazier and big George forman and can talk normally #respect
Marciano was only 180 pounds and never lost to anyone in heavyweight division. People always talking shit about Rocky, one of the best ever.
Ali sparred with him in the "computer fight".....after he said he was not sure he could beat Marciano due to his punching power and unpredictable style. Joe Louis said he thought between he and Marciano in their primes that Rocky would win as Joe did not like to be pressed (swarmed). If those two greats felt that way, it must have some significance.
It is interesting the weights of heavyweights back in the 40's 50's was less than later but back then they emphasized conditioning. If you watch Marciano he never stops moving forward on offense. How many boxers since then have been in good enough condition to do that? Not many.
@@stevemercury68 Joe Frazier, Shawn Porter, Mike Tyson, Joe Louis, Julio Ceaser Chavez, George Former, Evander Holyfield, Triple G, Marvelous Hagler, etc. I can name a hundred.
I really Watch Boxing.
Shay& Fontez Foree that’s a push. A lot of those guys weren’t even pressure fighters, and very few (if not none) of them had the conditioning of Rocky. He could go 15 rounds without tiring, constantly walking you down and hitting you like an absolute truck all the while. He was a different breed all together
@@thomashogg5432 if not none? So Joe Frazier, Marvelous Hagler, Julio Chavez weren't pressure fighters who fought 15 rounder's?
I just became a fan of Dontae for the tremendous respect he showed this great man . The story of George Chuvalo is an amazing one and I have nothing but love and respect for him though i dont even know him. A mans man who shows respect for everyone living or dead. Great interview Dontae. excellent!
With all due respect? George is nearly 80 and he took the punches of some of the hardest punchers of that era. When they went 15 rounds. Not 12
That fact that Tyson is spoken of, as still in the game, tells me, this is from the 1990s.
Dave Fox of that era? More like In history
George is not yet 70
+Jon Konrads As of 2018, George Chuvalo is 81...a bit past 70,eh?

Poor chuvalo lost his sons to drugs, great man a legend in the sport,
Cringe intro
@@THEDONSTR8Fightah76 he never did drugs you are laying
George turns 80 this year...and I still would not want to be hit by anything that he could throw ! Enough said...
That was a great interview.... you showed great respect for a great fighter....
Met him up at Wild Card yesterday. So humble and gracious. It was an honor
I always wanted to meet him...in my whole life
@@shawnbogart3261 he is my family i mean my grandpas uncle its so cool i never met him
Tough guy....fought them all.....got up from devastating personal family tragedies.....a real champ.
What a tough SOB.What this guys been through in the ring and the personal tragedies in his family...God bless him.
2019 GEORGE IS STILL ALIVE AND KICKIN !!! NOT SURE JUST HOW GOOD HIS HEALTH IS BUT AS THEY SAY IN BOXING , DON'T COUNT HIM OUT YET !!!!!!
Still alive in 2021.
2021 still alive, hardest chin ever, iron chin, iron balls.
Tough Croat.
Never knocked out in 93 professional fights including Ali, Foreman, Frazier...
George Chuvalo Respect
Today's boxers won't amass records like "the old boys" did.
You're absolutely right!!
he has better speech than mayweather sr
Dontae's Boxing Nation i was saying that sarcastically.
i respect and appreciate everything you're doing.
tbh, every fighter have to be treated the same, if we ask everyone to step up then we should also ask ggg to step up.
He SURE DOES
George is a wonderful man.sadly,he lost all his children during his life.may god bless him.
MY GOD!!! I'M OLD. LOOK AT GEORGE. SEEN HIM AT DETROIT COBO ARENA TWICE. THE SECOND TIME WAS AT THE FRAZIER V. ELLIS FIGHT IN DETROIT. ALWAYS ENTERTAINING. IN TH 60'S HE WAS MOST DANGEROUS IN THE FIRST 4 ROUNDS.
Chuvalo greit fighter respect.
I respect George more than any fighter a warrior inside the ring and a champion outside the ring he's a inspiration to everybody outside the ring
Chuvalo was the real deal. He and Marciano both were great interviews. Had well developed personalities and were intelligent. Love their analysis.
Brilliant interview really interesting
George Chuvalo is a wonderful human being and very entertaining. Born Sept 12, 1937, he is no spring chicken. You could see his struggle to remember time periods, yet his answers were always honest. I am Canadian and appreciate now what he did in the ring more than I ever did when I was a teenager. Ali had great respect for George, both in 1966 and 1972.
the man with the great chin
He rarely got hit on the chin.
A lovely man. A gentleman.
“Did you know rocky Marciano personally”
Hello ?
Marciano was in George Chuvalo corner ....
For one fight and it was a publicity stunt. They barely knew each other
His question was very obvious like “did you met him “
And George answered the question
“Yeah he was nice guy “
Like what you trying to defend here
They obviously not the best friend or anything m
But they met each other and they talked
Was it publicity stunt or not
They knew each other
Greatest chin ever
If you are a boxing Fan but haven't seen the documentary "Facing Ali", your missing something special.
The move (made in 2009) is a series of interviews with George Chuvallo, Earnie Shavers, Earnie Terrell, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton and several other great boxers from the era when Ali was the Greatest for a reason. George Chuvallo was still sharp as a razor in 2009 and he shares a piece of Ali's fight history I had never heard about. This is a must see for anyone that knows about the Golden Age of Heavyweight Boxing.
This guy is 79 years old! He took some shots too in his day!
I ended up with him in a small elevator in Toronto once. I was stunned at the size of his hands on the panel. All I could think of was I hope no bell starts ringing in this elevator.
Prolly one of the best chins in boxing
That George Chuvalo a heck of a tough guy. Still making good sense after all those bouts and 80 years old to boot. Thanks a lot for this great video
. BTW where do you get those HOT HOT babes? They sure as hell grab my interest!
George is the Canadian hero. Period.
So proud to share a handshake with him. Real champ.
Only looks about 55.
Nah dude...he looks around 80.
He looked old here
But watch him in facing ali documentary back in 2009 he was around 70 and looked at 50’s
Great to hear these fighters talk about boxing.
Very articulate and honest in his opinion....in my view.Wow
Tough man nice man.
My favorite boxer of all time. Also cause of the tireless work he's done helping kids-touring endlessly to schools warning of the dangers of drugs. I've seen many interviews of him and always enjoyed them. He had a sharp wit as well and has aged very well.
He does seem a little out of it in this interview. Either age finally catching up or maybe just tired from a long flight.
Still a great guy and probably the only boxer I would be star struck by if I ever met him in person.
The fight where Tyson bit Holyfield's ear off, the decision for Holyfield was reversed and they gave the win to Tyson because Evander's ear was on the canvas for more than 10 seconds.
Love the man !
delightful interview. Put Toronto on the map! I swear that accent though! Swell guy.
Ali Said about George if we were still fighting 50 rounders George would be the champion of the world
He never tired and you needed a baseball bat to KO him.
God Bless You Chuvalo Sir....
♥️❤️😍🥰
I met this guy twice. Very very cool guy. Very good looking, very articulate. Just a great.
Chuvalo had great boxing history and knowledge of dates, he's just getting a little old now.
Looking good for a man who is almost 80!
I'd love to talk boxing with Chuvalo
Great guy......
George CHUVALO l'un des meilleurs boxeurs du 20 eme siècle!
George been through some awful tradgedies but never lost GRACE what a Gent and a legend
George chuvalo was a very tough guy who could mix it with anyone.
George you’re a legend
Guys from years ago are definitely tougher , 20 , 30 , 40 rounds and more , nutrition is better now and the facility's but no way are today's guys tougher .
Considering who he fought, George was better than Marciano
How can you not luv this guy❤️❤️
This man was the "toughest" and the most "rugged" of all Heavyweights in modern times. His fights with Ali, with Floyd Patterson, with Oscar Bonavena, with Jerry Quarry, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Buster Mathis, and Cleveland Williams was the "Crown Royal" that made this man hold the well earned titles of 'Most Rugged" & Most Toughest" ever in modern times! He fought these guys, even though losing some, George "NEVER" got knocked down , let alone knocked out. When he came into the ring, a fighter better be ready to go the distance! He withstood the punches of some of the heaviest hitters that boxing has ever seen! Fighters like Cleveland Williams, George Foreman, and Joe Frazier could not knock this "terminator" down! Toughest and Rugged Heavyweight Champ, George wears the "Crown" undisputed!
You forgot his best fights -KO's of Doug Jones, Yvonne Durell and Manuel Ramos.
Looks great for 80!
He did have an amazing chin but he's starting to show signs of slowing down but he is pushing 80!! Never kissed the canvas, Foreman, Frazier, Ali and more...Props.
He would of kissed the canvan in that Foreman fight if his corner didn't throw in the towel.
It's still remarkable how lucid he is after 60 years in the ring!
R Kelly, yes, in the next round (4th) and in the fight against Frazier in the late 60's when he couldn't come out for the 6th. He was durable and a good puncher too but he was easy to hit and he absolutely would have gone down if those two fights weren't stopped.
85 now
Dontae gave a good interview
if chuck Weiner has a film on his life the George Chuvalo should DEFINITELY have one 💪👊
Poor old guy. Seems very nice and was a tough asss fighter
George had 3 sons who died from Heroin...Devastating,,,Then his wife took her life from heartbreak...
he is completely different from Quarry in their looks and style
Hes an awesome guy.
quarry and chavalo and shavers deserve championship
George Chuvalo wanted to fight for the British Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship in the 1960's, but the titleholder, Henry Cooper, wanted no part of Chuvalo. George said he met with Cooper's manager about a possible fight and he replied, "Henry doesn't even want to meet you socially."
His manager said something similar about Liston. When asked if he would consider a fight with Liston he replied " If we meet Liston coming down the block we are walking on the other side of the street." I think Cooper v Chuvalo could have been a three fight series. I could see George knocking him out in the late rounds or winning on cuts but I could see Cooper winning a decision. Remember Tony Alongi, and Pete Rademacher outpointed George and Cooper was a better fighter than them.
Given the way he fought and the huge trench battles he had - from Floyd to Frasier & Ali, William's etc., amazing that he's so coherent and clear. He gave us some huge fights and was a threat whenever he entered the ring. A great Canadian fighter. 💪👏👏👏
More coherent than Joe Biden despite all the punches George took.
George is a CHAMP in my eyes not just for being a tough fighter but for what life has thrown at him. I went to school will George's eldest boys and if you know what he's been through with his boys and wife you will get it. I don't know what drives George too be so strong but God Bless George Chuvalo
I would love this guy to be my boxing trainer :D
What a lovely man
What a great interview. George was very tough. His second fight with Ali he came close to winning.
No he didn't! Ali won 10 of 12 rds vs Chuvalo in fight 2. Tough Chuvalo certainly was, but neither fight with Ali remotely close.
I'll side with Lionel on this one. That fight was pretty damn close and Ali wasn't nearly as fast the second time. Maybe try watching it again with the volume off and keep an honest score card.
Seen the fight several times and scored it 10-2 Ali and 9-2 with 1 rd even always Ali with a big lead at the end. Chuvalo gutty tough guy, but clearly outclassed. Of course Ali was better and quicker fight 1, but even the fight 2 version was clear Ali winner.
iamtman1 there's also a pattern and practice of you ripping on chuvalo for years on youtube. I recommend everyone who isn't constantly sipping the Ali juice to watch for themselves.
I never ripped on chuvalo. I respect him as a person and courageous fighter. I said he was a limited fighter ( which he was). I guess to you that's ripping him.
Sad to see that dementia is taking hold. I'm sure he thinks it's the early 90s the way he talks about the current fighters. What a legend he is! He does look young for his age though
10:38 The fact that Rocky was too small and yet beat everyone in the heavyweight division makes him even more impressive.
Marciano gave him and his manager a bad financial deal...a check that bounced...Thats why he was apprehensive to talk about Rocky...
He is 81 he barley looks 60
One of my heroes!
George is cool
George was tougher than ALL those other boxers
Wow , he spit knowledge on strengthening his jaw muscles by chewing bubble gum
love it
I was a big Floyd Patterson fan and the first fight I ever watched on TV was Patterson v Chuvalo.
a good man, why is he not in the HOF
George Foreman GOAT
This guy had a chin like no other. But no disrespect to Chuvalo think his steel in the 90's.
"Tyson vs. Foreman? Let's give Mike a couple fights to come back from the Douglas knockout and we'll see where's he's at. But, Tyson a year ago is the best. He's still a young guy and Foreman's trying to make a comeback at 40 years old." Damn man that's sad. Especially when he says the brain scan showed no signs of damage.
Yes, he's 30 years behind. Now I hear he is in the FULL Blown Stages of Dementia.
His mind is gone, and no its not from getting punched but I can see his eyes here and he's not all there anymore. That's just old age, but I think just like in the ring he's not going to go down easy.
George is my friend and a lot of his cognitive impairment IS caused by getting hit. Think about it. 93 pro fights, not even including amateur, never knocked down, so it's obvious he has damage from punches. I noticed it back in early 2000's.
If he hadn't been a fighter, he'd live past 100. The thing that came closest to knocking him out was the tragedy of his family with three kids and his wife committing suicide.
Say a prayer for him.
As a 72-year-old retired fighter I had 38 Pro fights and 31 amateur fights decent amateur career very average pro career, and believe me as you get older you startTo feel the effects of all the punches you took your memory starts fading , I think George Chuvalo is doing pretty good for an 80-year-old man who had so many hard fight.
well said, JW. I remember an interview where Max Schmeling (then about 75)said that on damp mornings he could still feel the effects of Joe Louis's punches from their second fight.
George is spot on with his evaluations of Marciano, Ali, Frazier, and Foreman. Marciano was too small to have beaten the 215 pound Ali or the 225 pound George Foreman. Frazier was considered a small heavyweight, but Smoking Joe was still 20 pounds heavier (e.g., 205 pounds) than Marciano. It's important to note that Chuvalo fought in the 215-220 pound range, so he was a big heavyweight who fought in the golden era of the heavyweight division.
I clicked on this video to watch and listen to Chuvalo talk boxing...............never got around to it. Oh.............my..............GOD. The one on the right......Wowserz!
What about Tommy Morrison, so much potential.
