I loved the contrast ratio in this commercial spot. It gave it more character than had it been lit more "commercially". Well done. Thanks for the breakdown.
Loved the breakdown, however with all this contrast, I'd have loved to hear a little bit about how the beer glass was lit. Amazing analysis though! Don't leave us again please haha
Very nice! Initially I thought "wow, some haze would've added some mood to this". But since they are right there next to the window, and right in the lightbeam, that would mean they are in the hazy area. So I guess they had to decide if they were putting them in the middle of the bar with some added mood in the background, or go for high contrast and keeping it simple. They decided and owned it.
i love your breakdowns i just wish i could see the actual setup. i worked with available light for so long i'm handicapped. i assume you're back to more regular uploads cuz of the strike man. i hate to say looking forward to it but
I love your video man! I've watched almost all of them. It's clear from the way that you are describing everything that you are very knowledgeable about these things. Your channel is what UA-cam needs to have more of. It's unfortunate that most of the time when I try to find various tutorials on UA-cam, most tutorials on cinematography either talk about the same exact stuff or dumb it down to "let me explain what the iso button does on your camera". I am interested in seriously improving my video skills, I want to learn the art of creating emotional work that's emotional not because of some dog losing it's owner, but rather from standpoint of color, balance, composition. Would you suggest other knowledgeable UA-cam channels that you would think actually teach like you do?
Location looks like Madrid, Barcelona or possibly Rome...nice for a couple of days, but not too long! haha I also notice a really dark fill side seems to be "in" nowadays, and the dancing, overweight middle-aged man has become an overused trope in ads.
It’s actually mandated in all commercial work that large-boned individuals always appear happy. Overweight folks appearing unhappy are a led zeppelin for product sales.
I love how the director and DP are unafraid of the dark. Great commercial, and insight.
There's nothing like listening to a wise teacher imparting knowledge.
@@cicolas_nage you are so right 😂. I fixed it.
Someone should buy this guy another burrito so we keep gettin these awesome really helpful cinematography and lighting breakdowns!
Thanks for the squiggly lines!
It ain’t much, but it’s honest work. RIP IYKYK
Just shot a short film and some of your tips for lighting spaces directly changed how I worked, for the better! Thank you
THANK YOU FOR COMING BACK.
pls keep up the video series... man... i felt lost without ur stuff
So glad you’re making these again. 🙌🏻🔥
Welcome back Patrick. Just enjoy dis 💪💪💪
I don't even do cinematography anymore, but I still enjoy watching your videos 😂
Why go away? Come back!
Why did you switch to? I’m switching back to it 😎

"That's me dancing when I see the storyboards" haha love it!
Thanks Patrick!!!

I'm proud to say I have watched all of these. Thank you for making them.
I love your videos!!! Missed seeing any new ones for a while.
Glad to have you back brother

Subtitles , Belgium , yeah nice enough place for a couple of days , they like beer alot, all lighting should be like this , less is more.

Ahhh contrast. The lost art of the contrasty image. Hard to sell these days, i miss it, im old.
Blasting light and dialog without speaking... at a single location. We'll be drinking Leffe's by lunch 🙌
Good to see you’re back. Again! These last two are sweet.
Do you think there was anything done additionally to the beer glasses 🍻 or was this just the backlight?
I just wanna hang out with this guy on a set for a whole day doing DoP(e) shit
Great restraint on them to commit to the contrast in the wide, rather than trying to even up the fill on closeups like most commercials.
Really enjoyed this. Thank you sharing ✨
What do you think they’re using as key? m40? M90? Or all the way up to 18k?
It’s the best on yt. We need more of that 💛
HAHAHA! Dude u have eye like a hawk and eyes behind your head! Luv it! HAHAHA
thanks for the episode!
It was shot in Belgium if you're interested :p
Awesome content, would like to see the comercial, is there any link? thanks.

Did they put some black mat on top of the table to stop light from bouncing off the table on to their chins???
He’s back 🥲
" I see you, we see you" hilarious.
Beautiful breakdown!!
Imagine if I could shoot as well as I broke down other peoples hard work.
😂
I wished you spoken about how they wrapped the key around the guy in the shadows.
I love these
Me too. Plus this guy handsome. I could watch him for hours
Never thouggt of using other buildings to avoid competing with sky exposure, smart!
sure you've been asked this but what's enabling you to annotate over the screen like that without changing software? seems really useful
welcome back)
Very intimate light setup. At least that's what I get from it.
Where can I find all these commercials from? I need to gather some for references for a project
keep doing this
That text at the bottom is called Wes Andersons thoughts
Great stuff as always
We missed you ❤
Did they used something special to light the beer?
Miss your videos bro
❤❤❤
One thing that confuses me, are there actual lights there? And then they are edited out of the shot in post?
no. off screen
4:50 subtitles
Jason’s got jokes. Funny man J
Woooo hooo!
One of the worst drinks in history. Great commercials though

the old mirror exposé 😂
Is this.. consistent posting?!
There is a part of me that hopes you never get paid work again so you can bless us with this weekly gold. Thank you!
what's with the long face Townshend
Come to Unreal Engine, we have cookies
subtitle
man the blacks look like as if some codec conversion has gone wrong or something
Not sure that kind of language is appropriate in 2023.
"Jaded DP" should be the new name of the channel.
how dare you assume my emotional state.
good to have you back sir
