"The Birds" Filming Locations - 60 Years Later

- What do you need to make a good horror movie? Obviously it's not serial killers and splatter effects - Alfred Hitchcock proved that exactly 60 years ago. His legendary film "The Birds" is set in the gray coastal town of Bodega Bay - and its spooky atmosphere is all down to a few birdies. Time to visit the famous film locations - because the village of Bodega Bay really exists.
A film by Matthias Schwarzer.

8:14 I remember the cameo very well. Hitchcock was walking out of the pet store with two West Highland Terriers on leashes.
Wonderful research, it must have taken forever. Well done video, and thank you!
My wife and I visited there in 2016 and I remember getting a bit of motion sickness driving down Hwy 1 to Marin City. I had to stop and walk around.
The Coast Highway would have been the fastest way to get from San Francisco to Bodega Bay in the early 60s.
Regarding 3:30, that tall brown skyscraper in the background is the Bank of America building located on 555 California Street,
Of which Donald Trump owns 20%
Great video! Love Hitchcock
4:11 airports existed 60 years ago , look it up. 1927 San Francisco international airport, the first international flight to san Francisco was in 1946
So creepy the way all those birds were perched on the power lines at -3:25 lol! 😂
Oskar Sala was a genius with the Trautonium (Trautonium one of the first Synths built 1930 in Germany)
Hitchcock comes to Berlin and asks him to make the sounds fore the birds
The film was already finished but they have no idea to make it more scary with sound and music
Hayworth's house was not at the tree's area but where there is a house located there now at the top right hand corner.
The shots of downtown Bodega Bay (17:25) are at Universal Studios, Hollywood.
Also the scene where the birds are attacking the school kids as they run down the road was at Universal. They were running on treadmills as birds were being tossed at them.
very well done!!!~
Why didn't you cover the area where the house use to be across the bay? Many trees from the movie are still there and so is the old driveway (although covered with 60 years of brush). I've been there many times.
He said at the end he tried to get over there but there was a big gate leading up to it. I also heard from another video that the house and surrounding area was leased to a university for research.
I heard that little town where the gas pump blew up was filmed in Capitola
great movie hitchock love san francisco area
Nice!
Thank you so much for this brilliant comparison of the changes to the filming locations! You went into such depth, which gave me a better understanding of these locations.
I grew up in California and my parents took my brother and I to Bodega Bay every weekend.
Do you know if Mitch Brenner's house is across the bay or if it was built in a studio?
Thank you for this awesome and funny video!
The info about Mitch's house was told near the end of the video.
FYI Hitchcock did cameos in _all_ his movies... though in Lifeboat it was just him as the model in a newpaper ad for a clothier for portly men that floats by...
Though the windows of Saint Francis may not look inviting in the film, this is because this part of the hotel at the time was the location of the Tiki bar
Love Birds !
My next video guess, since you're heading up the west coast . . . Endor Forest . . . Goonies?
31:58 Hahaha. It's a trap!
Robin sons pet shop is on Maiden Lane a blowout east the north on Stockton to maiden lane😊
çok ayrıntıya girmişsin güzel video ama ev eksik
You didn't go to Mitch's house location.
He said he couldn't get there because of a fence around the property 33:05.
. You should standing across corner.. Correct
New sub here - totally loving the lesser covered movie locals you inhabit‼️ Suzanne Pleshette revs my Chris-Craft 💯
Loving the german navi directions... I set mine to english in Quebec just to laugh at the google map directions butcher the french names of everything.... might switch it to german for funzies!!
Yo
3:29 Bank of America building, where the killer in 'Dirty Harry' shot his first victim (the woman swimming in a rooftop pool) from! Go Dirty Harry!
If you return to San Francisco Union Square most everything is closed or closing due to high crime and homeless, so be careful leaving anything in the car because they will just break in and take it with no help from law enforcement. They are quickly destroying a really beautiful place.
None of what you said is true.
@@JWRogersPS So the mall refusing to pay their payments because all but three stores pulled out and all the vacant stores near union square is just a psyop? These are facts if you would like me to type of the mile long list of store closures and daily crime numbers. All of what I said is true
