- The Earthen starting zone in the War Within is new piece of content being added to World of Warcraft; a starting zone meant to introduce players to the lore, culture and way of life of the Earthen people. Does this starting zone succeed in such a thing however, or is it a giant flop? I'm glad you have such a good attitude having to deal with the toxicity of the WoW community. I have respect for people that can maintain there sanity dealing with the social trauma of dealing with these people for a living. I recently made a negative comment about TWoW (it installed a trojan on my PC) and the hate I've received lol.
Good expanded start but I wished they could had done more better for the Earthern. Atleast it's not as lazy as the BFA Starting Zones with the Allied Races that just sent you right away from the introduction to old world quests.

I think the reason the Earthen zone so short and kinda mundane is because its just an allied race. All of the allied races have short-ish intro/starting zones...in case of the nightborne for example you just take like 2 quests and then go right to org. I feel like Blizz shouldn't have hyped up the Earthen so much since its just an allied race that you happen to unlock at the end of the main leveling experience, and not something you get as soon as the expansion drops like Pandaren.
Exactly. For some reason, I feel like Nixxiom thinks they are more than another Allied race, which they are not. The Earthen intro is no different than any other allied race. If anything, they actually put more work into this one than they did the Allied Races from BfA.
Which is a shame imo.
Allied races are so cool, I love them, but I wish Blizzard would give us a whole starting zone to explore, quest, read about their culture, thoughts about the new faction they're getting into and whatnot.
I understand that most of players nowadays don't give a F about reading quests and exploring, but I still wish Blizz would give a bit more love to those of us who do.
@tylerpepper6986 In the video I talked about just that. The Earthen have been hyped up since the announcement trailer as one of the brand new big features of the expansion, similar to how Pandaren, Blood Elves and Draenei were hyped up in previous expansions. If the new race is just another no big deal Allied race being added to the game, it shouldn't be displayed as one of the selling points of the expansion.
@@NixxiomOnUA-cam if your issue is their story involvement they are literally one of the main focuses of the entire expansion. the expansion IS their story. all of the other allied races didn't get a long intro because they already had their storyline in a prior expansion as well as the questlines to unlock them. that's what makes allied races different from core races.

I really hate how Blizz keeps embracing this idea that every player character is the chosen one. Ugh.
Every mod dying easily doesn't help, either. Quest npcs make it seem like a big deal that you killed 10 radioactive boars or something while you didn't even break a sweat.

They are reuseing the same old Audio Assets from Legion in every expansion.
In German Version Tyranda Silvans and Jana all have the same Voice and use same Audio Files in Parts.
Its the "you give us loads of money every month... we give you old crap recolored" succes model of Blizz
Now compare it to TBC starting zones for Blood Elves and Draenei.

Man, I still remember leveling my first blood elf. The whole zone was breathtaking.
The beautiful Eversong Wood with that atmospheric music to set the mood while learning about their culture, history and stregnths .
And then the starting zone having its climax on the eerie Ghostlands, where you can clearly see what they're fighting for.
To this day, that still is my favorite zone to level.

All they got was the typical allied race intro with a few extra steps. Seriously, Im not sold on these guys. I still want ogres or vykrul or freaking tuskarr. Anything but rock dwarves.

Yeah they are basically just re-skins again. The only ''unique'' about them is that females have beards like the middle-earth dwarf ladys have.
It's short beacause the whole culture is explained in the questline to unlock them, it's not supposed to be your first character this is why it's short and right in the action. The whole purpose of it is to be short and the whole context is given you prior to making this chracter just like any other allied race, this is nothing new it's been like this since the end of Legion.
Guys we know it’s an allied race. But it’s the only race they are giving us and we have a ton of allied races already.

Nobody wanted reskins because they're hellishly lazy. All these freaking allied "races" should've just been cosmetic options for the current ones. The Dracthyr have great animations and are generally a cool race, but let's be honest, nobody asked for them... Not to mention their visage is obviously just another reskin for the 10th version of blood elves.

I think the big reason is that this is a race you will have to unlock. In MoP, your first experience with Pandaren may very well have been being a Pandaren character, but anyone who is playing an Earthen has *already* learned all this lore and been introduced to them during the unlock process, ala Void Elves, Mag'har Orcs, and other allied races.
Pandaren starting zone was 10/10, but i have never created another Pandaren just because it was too long to do again.
I hate to say it, but since the appearance of the Allied races, there are no cool starting zones anymore. The only thing waiting for you is a few short tasks to familiarize yourself with the mechanics of the game or class you have chosen and then go out into the world and have fun there. This is very sad, it would be much nicer to create a starting zone where you can level up, for example, 10 levels with the selected race and then you go out into the world and level up further.

The mentioning of crafting reminded me why I dislike trying to craft in WoW. Things require SO MANY parts to craft and now you need so many more materials to make one now than years before and it just feels bloated and bad.

The Meh expierience of the new race's starting zone kinda reinforces my scepticism.
I don't think the short starting zone is that much of a problem, but i agree that they could do more to give you as player more insights about your race. Maybe with a follow up zone. Just like Valley of Trials is followed up with Durotar for Orcs.
Earthen aren't on the list of races I ever thought should be added. There are so many other races that the community have been clamoring for since Vanilla, like Ogres. We have Void Elves, Robotic Gnomes, Thick Humans, and now another Dwarf race. Cool.

I don't mind it being short, but can we get a little edge? The idea of breaking free from divine programming and rebelling against orders written into your very core has the potential for some character depth. But having a room full of people clapping like your Shinji at the end of evangelion removes all the tension from the scenario. I know wow isn't known for deep character moments but I feel like the reason people loved Illidan and Arthas was because their stories had some bite to them. Wouldn't it be more interesting if you had to escape from a faction who was trying to purge those who break from their programming?
Man I wish you would do some more research. It's a allied race and no allied race has a full starting zone. This is actually bigger then most allied race zones. The normal full races still get a full starting zones but allied races don't.
I was baffled he started comparing it to the pandaren LMAO. dude, allied races are supposed to be subraces that don't have a starting zone, thats their whole point. Its like he didnt play wow at all ever since bfa.

I agree with the factor of being the hero or champion, whatever thing that makes you different than others being something I don't like, but i don't see anything wrong with the zone being short as it is, they are supposed to be an ally race that you unlock after the leveling experience, if nothing has changed. And sure blizzard has been hyping the earthen since i dont know when, but the entire story theorically is around them so.
While they being hyped as the Gay Elves, Space Goats and China Bear, none of those were or are allied races, and the concept has changed from then, to have a ally race as a addition (after completing the campaign(s)) to that expansion.
But at the end of the day, we all have our opnions and we like or dislike certain aspects or decisions of blizzard and influence by others.
The void elf starting zone can be completed in under 2 minutes. This is normal for allied races.

The “chosen one” trope is definitely over played now. It’s incredibly immersion breaking to be told you’re special and the chosen one when you’ve literally just started the game.
I wouldn't even compare it to MoP. Just take Dragonflight. The Dracthyr experience is a good 30 minutes at least.

It's a bit longer than the other allied race starting zones, but I agree it feels lacking compared to the pandaren, the first neutral race. I'm still not disappointed, though. The leveling campaign itself is a great introduction to the Earthen.

99% of the stuff you see in alpha is what the expansion will have on launch, let's not kid ourselves after 15 years that this time they'll do something different.

I think they need to stop giving us allied races and just new races, period. Draenei, Blood Elves, Worgen, Goblins... they all had entire outdoor zones dedicated to their starting areas. Bring that back to us please.

No Allied race has ever had a starting zone, so why would the earthen have one? you're complaining that the starting zone is too small when we were not even supposed to have one in the first place, blizzard never promised they would have a big starting zone like the blood elves or whatever.

This starting zone is donkey balls. They might as well just give you a portal right away like the old allied unlock races with how low effort this is. Compare all of the allied and neutral races to what we have with the pandaren for their story rich turtle hopping, and learning about their culture. The quality has severely dropped since then.
I get that Blizzard screwed up with making Earthen a "Cover-Feature" of TWW at Blizzcon. But you shouldnt be comparing an Allied Race. To a race like the Worgen, Goblins and Pandaren. Which had those relatively comprehensive big experiences, at the start. I do think that the way the Earthen "special" thing is done is a bit weird though. But other than that. If functions exactly like any other Allied race had so far. That is to say. Their Introduction is rooted in whichever expansion they are from that you play through on Another Character. And then the "starting" point of the Race when that character is made, is more of a Formality. I wish it wasnt like that to some extent. But I understand where it's coming from.
When your expansion's selling point is a race reskin, ESO's delves and followers that they'll drop in the next major patch because they can't work with it, you pretty much have nothing to advertise your expansion with and just selling the same world quests, dungeons and raids you've been doing since WoD.

Honestly happy that Allied Race Starting Zone Experience is getting much more longer than oh hey sup long introduction and then just send you to whatever capital city to just do rest of the questing. Meanwhile Earthern Starting Zone finally has more depth than the 10 Allied Races we had in BFA. I mean yea the Starting Zone kind of looked like the special one starting zone instead of being this random person but atleast it's bit longer than most allied race starting zones that is extremely short and lacking depth.

So I'm gonna guess that if this much attention, or lack thereof, was placed on this new race then I'm gonna also guess there are zero improvements to the new or returning player experience. So much for growing back the player base. Sounds like WoW will remain as stagnant as it's been for the past few expansions. Had some hope for the game with the upcoming expac...not anymore.

Because they're an allied race. Worgen are a primary race and are selectable without ever having played, same with Pandaren. The other allied races also have short intro zones.

@@Subject_Keter I mean, again, they're an unlocked race. It's not the same to compare one of the core races to the allied races starting zones. While I agree they could've been given a more flushed out starting zone, it's ultimately irrelevant as any "flavor" or lore they'd add to these zones would most likely just be going over the same information you get from doing the earthen related quests in Storm Peaks. I don't find it detracting to not make a super flushed out starting zone for an allied race which is effectively a reskin of an already existing race.

You clearly know nothing about retail WoW. Allied races have a cool storyline in the journey you take to unlock them. Once unlocked, you are ready to go. Earthen is an allied race. I bet you didn't even unlock a single allied race in retail WoW. Go back to playing classic.
Downgrade compared to the Dracthyr's starting story.
Where you and your dudes were literally waking up from stasis with no knowledge as to what is going on beyond getting out of that hole. Only after that, did you end up running into the Primalist plot and see the story of Dragonflight begin.
Outside of some lore regarding the Dracthyr, you're just a lucky dude who was able to survive all that.
This game is dog crap. Idk why people say dragonflight is 10 times better than classic. I am thinking the people that are saying so are much younger, and have never experienced wow earlier than wod or legion, cause the game holds your hand the whole way, while you jump on the hamster wheel. The world is dead and community is non existence, classic isn't much better for chat, cause people just talk about political trash to piss people off, and say sexual non sense, all while talking about really bad new age memes that were never funny, but at least people sometimes help, and are looking for stuff to do, overall chat is alive.
Who did you expect from a filler race: huge lore like from pandarens??? Please. Nightborne and Void Elves have similar short race quests, as well as DHs just with a bunch of additional cut scenes.
