In some parts of my land it's hard for a ATV to get through the forest... I had a log cabin built by Amish people in 5 days I have a 3 bedroom home with a balcony all the way around the house... I have 4 containers 8x40 full of firewood for the winter... I hire a boy 👦 to help with the wood 🪵 splitting, I load the machine he splits wood 🪵 into a trailer, then it's loaded into the containers... I pay him $500 for every container, sometimes its a 2 day job... basically the splitter works by itself, just load wood... the boy needs a father in his life, his mom knows if he ain't home with her he's here with me... I'm disabled but, I'm happy the machine works alone... I have 2 atv's and we have fun, it's not all work...
I did much the same thing, years ago when I farmed and had a woodlot. I used my 3020 with chains, and, it handled all the snow well. That was just after the first energy crisis in the seventies. Propane prices went way up, so, we put a wood heater in the basement, and, an antique parlor stove in the living room. After that, we used almost no propane, and, our coop wanted us to remove our huge tank, we kept the big tank, and, filled it just once a year at most. Nice to see folks are still doing this. I now live on the north east shore of Lake Superior, and, still heat mostly with wood, but, I buy mine in the early spring, stack it in racks and cover and let it season over the summer and fall months. Having two sources of heat, gives a feeling of security when the winds howl.
I like seeing this family activity. My dad always had the dream of having a piece of land (again) and living a peaceful life. Later on in life he struggled and I was just getting out of college and setup for my career. Now that I am flourishing I have the ability to move and have my own little slice and even support him. I would have loved to have him nearby or even with me on the property to do things like this. We never needed to go out to enjoy each other. Our time together was always spent doing work together in each other's presence. He was my best friend and I miss him dearly. Wish we could have had something like this.
FAMILY NO WOMEN
Loved riding on the tractor with you, and being kidnapped by the dog. Your farm is just beautiful.
Thanks Penny!
Thanks for taking us along on the tractor ride out to the wood pile. Loved it.
Thanks Lynden!
Great scenery..Ear corn bins, windmill, frozen "lumps" to step over, beautiful winter sky, and a couple of four legged helpers. nice.. We left the web and PTO intact for unloading. "Great sign"
Thank you Arnold!
Good work done. There’s a good feeling a man gets seeing stacks a fire wood and stacks a hay, it’s like money in the bank !
Thanks!
@@GierokFarms My dad always said making wood warmed you....at least twice!
Have seen old pro drive spreaders used to haul wood and just have the floor chain left operational to help unload it. Thanks guys!
I love all the different camera shots, especially the one that River made.......LOL. It's a special kind of person who loves animals the way that your family does, weather it's your dogs, or your cows, or any other. May God Bless You !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Timmy, God Bless you too!
Fun-to-watch video. I love cutting, splitting and burning wood for heat. My operation is of a much smaller scale because I have a single wood burning stove that heats about 1/2 of my house. I am impressed with your John Deere tractor's wheel width stance. That thing looks mighty stable compared to my Kubota compact L3901. I've gotten into some adrenalin situations while raising the bucket and not realizing that a corner is hooked onto a stump or under a downed tree. What that rear tire starts to come off the ground I'm very quick to hit the joy stick up so the bucket falls. I need to fill my tires and install wheel spacers.
America needs more families like this. This country wouldnt be off the rails with more of this kind of institution set in place. Nice job men.
Thank you!
Great video of everyone working together gathering firewood. The 2 dogs sure released a lot of energy running after the tractor. River was still frisky enough to attempt to steal the Go-pro. Lucky you saw it right away before he ran off with it and lost it. Take care and have a great day.
No kidding lol, thanks Ben!
I like the reuse of the old spreader. My neighbor had the beater gearbox fail on his so he removed all the components for the beaters and left the apron chain in place. With the tractor at idle and the apron in slow he can pretty much stack the load as fast as it is fed to him.
I use old turd hearses for wood haulers. Load them up and tarp them down. Use as needed.
I have often thought that an old spreader with the beaters taken out and the apron left working would make a great firewood unloading trailer.
Sounds like a good idea!
just came across your videos. as soon as i saw your saint i knew i had to subscribe. we had saints when i was growing up. love em still. I'm 67 and stilldoing firewood. we heat with a wood stove in the house.
River was thinking " I can do this. I can handle the camera "!!
I have the same spreader but changed the floor to solid vinyl decking and took the beaters off. Left the apron chain system intact and it works great for self unloading.
That sounds like a good idea!
Airplane doctor, that is a good idea and I have looked for a spreader for that purpose, but they are expensive to get or not many for sale. There fore I built about 40 wire bins that go on the back of my JD on a 3pt forks. Each bin holds a face cord and then I only handle the wood twice from woods to furnace.
Yep, my self unloader is an old new idea
River that was awesome, I’ll take more videos of the dogs anytime!
We can do that, thanks for watching!
It always feels good to have plenty of fire wood handy. Also really like the landscape.
Thank you!
Great work. Just love the landscape. Reminds me of my childhood. Beautiful place you have. Viewer for life. Thank You.
Thank you!
Great job on the video, dogs had a great time. Made my day when I saw you posted a video today. Have a great day and enjoy the time together with your family. Take care, stay warm and looking forward to your next video!!
Glad we could make your day! thank you very much hope you stay warm too!
When I was young we had a wood furnace at the house. Biggest problem was my dad sometimes wouldn't shut the damper off quickly enough and we would end up opening the windows in the middle of winter. No thermostat at that time. He used to bring wood up and he and my mom would use the tractor to saw it into split-able pieces. That was a long time ago. He lived until he was 94 and finally had to buy a forced air furnace. Their house was over a hundred years old, walls made out of lath, plaster and square nails. It is still in the family though, my niece lives there now. Lots of memories are unlocked by your videos. Thanks for taking the time to post them.
Great video. Fun to watch.
New to your channel. Love all your camera views, the narrative and that beautiful WI countryside. Greetings from central Iowa.
Welcome to the channel thank you for watching the videos!
Yay, a pine flavored stick! What a nutty dog. The undercarriage shots were a nice change of pace.
Thanks
Enjoyed your video 👍
That's a nice tractor and trailer. The dogs looked liked they had fun tagging along!
I find it very funny that you actually have a back forty
LOL!
U guys live the life thats most people dream about it might be work but its worth it especially the beautiful land
Sure is thanks David!
Really enjoyed the video.the dogs were great too! Thanks
Great looking property! Big load for sure.
Thanks
I have done firewood most of my life. Those old manure spreaders makes for a nice trailer. I am in the process of bringing my old far back to life.
They sure do! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Good job guys up in the drifters area
Thank you!
The old spreader makes a nice useful trailer/wagon .saves a lot of money not having to buy a new trailer good job guys .
For sure, thanks!
Glad to see someone using a CB 6048 that is older than mine, started using mine in 2006. I like your new model too.
Thanks
That is how we used to get wood. Its hard to find those old manure spreaders as they make good fire wood wagons.
Good to see some outdoor wood boiler activities on your farm.
Hopefully next winter you'll be running the Portage & Main boiler you have tucked away in your machine shed 🔥
Might get to try it out we will see!
That is a beautiful area there and a nice pile of firewood. Y’all have great videos!!! No snow in here in Cocoa Beach Fl. I love cold weather to play in, but I can see that you men are bundled up and work hard. Im grateful for all the variety of videos you put on utube. Thank you
Lol, that was funny with what River did, still a pup!!
oh for sure just turned a year old!
Greetings from Canada,
I saw the old spreader being used as a wood trailer and had to check the video out. Many years ago my father rigged and old tandem axle Massey spreader to haul wood. He removed the beaters and left the apron chain in. He used the chain to unload the wood. Alos, he pulled the spreader with a 35 MF. Anyhow, that was over 40 years ago; the good old days...
All the best to you and your family, I hope all are doing well.
Paul
Thank you so much for watching it, we are glad you found, best of wishes to you as well!
very enjoyable videos, watching from our farm in Devonshire in the UK.
Awesome stuff! I have some honey holes of wood on our 18 acres that when the conditions are right I haul out mid winter! Love when the trails are frozen and you can zip right over with equipment!
Thank you!
Хәерле көн! Шәп видео! 👍
I don't know of a farmer that hasn't converted an old manure spreader into a trailer of some kind. Some turned manure spreaders into cattle trailers. We would always take the back off of hayracks and haul that way. Bring 8-15 foot logs back home and buzz saw them in the yard throw it all right in the basement.
Never heard of that but sounds really cool!
I have the temperature in my cb boiler at 150 and it seems to use alot less wood than at 180 still keeps the nice and warm.
Thanks for sharing .
Thanks for watching!
Yep,the "JUST IN CASE" job. We got maybe 8 inches here, 30 miles north of you, out of the snow fall on the 22nd. Hard to tell, the snow was so light it blow around some. Nice to see more cover on the ground. I sure would hate to take that load of wood down your hills with very much snow ❄ or ice 🧊 on the ground. Thanks 😊.
We got a decent storm recently glad we went when we did! thanks for watching!
Yea I got one but it is an old 540 international spreader. I think the apron chain is about 600$ new so I left it out. But that's cool stuff.
Thanks Joe!
Nice video. Here near Fort Worth TX at 12:30 P.M. today, we are at 25 degrees F. Winds only 0. Humidity is 90%. Eaglegards...
sounds nice!
That looked like a 7810 sort of a day, burrrrrr 😁😁
no kidding! it was cold!
That is a high dollar per hour job considering the price of propane and where its expected to go!!!!! Great video and family team work using renewable energy resources. John T.
no kidding, thanks john!
Great job! Many hands make light work.
For sure!
So nice you dont have to be in the city around people and traffic You guys kinda have your own world that's awesome we live in the country also here in North Idaho
It is a good life!
Pretty neat country side. Rolling hills !! Prolly tougher than it looks on camera!! Those chains really help on slick surfaces I bet!! You get more winter up there than I do in Kansas!! Heck of it is we’re so dry here!!
Thank you!
That brings back lots of memories, we would take the beater off for the winter, load the spreader with manure, bring it out to the pile alongside the Cornfield stop at the woods on the way home and cut up a load of firewood dump said wood in the pile feed the cows milk them watch whatever was on the one channel we had WDIO ,and go to bed .life seemed so much simpler back then. I wonder how the Fonze is doing?
Glad we could bring back memories thank you so much for watching!
What was the big dog looking for mice? When I pick up a big bale of hay with the tractors the dogs and cats are waiting to see if any mice run out it’s funny as heck!😄🤣
Yeah or any other kind of rodent, she is a great farm dog!
This video is the first time I've seen Dad Gierok wearing gloves. It must have been really cold for that to happen 🙂
Drop a few cord of at my place too. Good dry stuff but not quite that long. Mixed hwd will be fine. Another great day. Family and that beautiful country.
Lol, Thanks again for watching!
I don't think the farmers in the u.s. get the credit they deserve for the hard work they do for the american people, so I'll take this time to thank them all for there hard work, THANK ALL YOU FARMERS AND RANCHERS, I for one appreicate all you do for us......
Thank you very much!
@@GierokFarms Some times its hard to understand your fathers reasons for doing things the way he does at the time, but as you grow older and more experienced you will, and will be thankful you had him as a mentor, hard work never hurt ANYONE !
Good to see the dogs providing that needed supervision.... "Who-all didn't gimme a good day's work here?"
Thanks Doug!
You guys done a great job
thank you!
we had an old john deere spreader that we removed the beatters and left in the apron makes unloading alot easyer just turn on the pto an idle the tractor we unload it into the basement window
That's a good idea!
Really enjoying your videos!! Brings back memories!!
River wants to make videos lol.
oh yeah lol
Great video once again, thank you. I'm at odds to understand why you don't have a cab on the tractor when the weather is so cold 😕
The 7405 is just so nice for getting around!
Rivers my favorite dog now 😂
She is packed with energy!
You’re going to have to get a harness for River’s back to hold the gopro if she wants to be a camera person! That 7405 is the Swiss Army knife of your farm- very utilitarian.
That's a good idea! It sure is a great tractor!
That tractor sounds GREAT! Cool video!
the airplane doctor is right you could also use it to spead gravel and other things. take care, be safe and well.
Amazing I have the exact same old new Holland spreader that we did the same conversion for a wood trailer small world, farming in Northwest Ohio
That's awesome!
I did the same thing here in michignan worked great hauled it with old john deere B used 20 monster mull to split wood still use it today.
I'd take a load of that wood. Lol thanks for sharing
Lol thanks again for watching!
If I ever start burning a lot of wood again I am going to invest in a wood splitter for my skid steer.
It sure is nice!
River 🤣😂 👍
How long will that trailer load last? I always enjoyed doing firewood with my dad and granddad when I was a kid. We used to go into grandfather’s woodlot in the winter months with snowmobiles because the land was pretty wet.
Depends on the weather and the type of wood! Can vary a lot!
👍
Hello
The big dog seems to be a "Bernadiner" from the Switzerland. Do you have roots to Switzerland?
Best regards from CH
Atleast you guys won't ever run out of wood to heat your shop house and possibly the cattle sheds to
yeah lol
@@GierokFarms lol not fun freezing your ass off been there done that don't wanna do it again specifically if your out on horseback checking and doctoring cattle and have that happen
Your mom and dad all refreshed from their vacation?
Seem to be!
Wonder if you could retrofit a old spreader for a feed wagon lol
Probably!
I felt cold just watching this
LOL it was!
@@GierokFarms thank you for replying
@@pault1964 Thanks for commenting and watching!
Good thing you guys put the chains on that tractor. You'd be sliding all the way down that hill w/ that load. Very scary!!
The 7405 with chains can get around pretty good!
Wood is such good heat. Did you make the splitter or did you buy it?
Bought it!
good job fellers. is there a video of yalls sawmill set up?
Nope haven't bought one yet
Shud had keept the chain on the floor off manure spreder could had used it
RIVER you rascal!
no kidding lol
Where in the beautiful state of Wisconsin are you?
I believe they're west-central. Driftless area.
It must cost a fortune to feed you guys 😆
What is your brown and whites dog's name? Great video!
Mariska! Thank you!
I’m surprised your dad put a jacket on! That must be a rare occasion, lol. How many hours on the 7405?
I cant remember exactly but under 5!
We use a Pellet Boiler, benefit being when corn is in the $3.5 to $4.80 price range its cheaper to use corn then wood plus using wood pellets or corn you can fill a bunker once a month or so and the rest is automated. The smell of dried corn burning is not that bad either. Just a nice option to be aware of, a lot of people don’t think of burning Kernel Corn anymore.
I've heard of those before, i've always been interested to see one in person!
@@GierokFarms any wood pellet boiler can burn Corn as well, same for the side tank storage. I think Central Boiler sells both. If you price your corn cost on cost to grow a bushel it’s the cheapest & cleanest fuel around. Any price on Corn under $7 a bushel competes with store bought wood pellets when you compare BTU cost. Quite a few Midwest corn farms heat their shops with Corn.
Thank you. How many acres is your farm?
Aqui está quente demais, mas aí eu virar picolé kkkkk. Coitado dos cachorros. 😅
Question, when river got the camera, did I hear you right when you said river do nat, German?
Nice land!! How many acres and how many cows do you milk?
thank you! we milk 40 to 50
I think River wanted a little face time............
The star of the video!
😃
How many cowas r u guys milking love the video
40 to 50, thank you!
Great video! love your farm Where are you from?
WI
My guess is you're farm is in the south west part Wisconsin not to far from Wisconsin Dells.
I’ve burned a lot of firewood but never covered mine. What’s the benefit of covering it?
Keeps it drier!
Do you use a clip with your hitch pins?
depends on what we are pulling!
@@GierokFarms Ok thanks. Just curious and I also meant to ask how many loads of wood that boiler burns in a typical season.
