The fact that Charlie played so bad that he discovered the hospital secret before the house going weird is HILARIOUS, sadly it takes a lot of the punch out of the big reveal of the house going weird though but oh well.

Not really an old engine, it is using GZDOOM which is the most advanced source port, and to be perfectly honest with you as someone in the DOOM modding community more technically impressive things have been done many times before the mod ever came out. What makes this mod so good is it's unique usage of newer techniques and presentation of its ideas. If you want to know what the REALLY technically impressive stuff is, first of all look at Total Chaos which is the cream of the crop; then look at Hunter's Moon, Blade of Agony, Hieous Destructor and my personal favorite, Ashes 2063.
To clear up some misconceptions: - No, this engine isnt 30 years old. This is gzdoom, a fork in a long line of DOOM forks that has existed for years and comes with modern game design features. Almost nothing about this would be possible in the original 1993 DOOM engine. - "Two Stories" has been possible for a decade at least, whether it be using silent teleports, or line portals. This map uses the latter. So yes, you can do basements in DOOM, at least since silent teleports have been a thing.

I know nothing about this game until I saw this video, I just gotta say this game is unbelievably unsettling. The endless monotonous level design, the distorted sound effects of everything, the uncomfortable screaming sounds, the surreal background music, it all just comes together real well to make just an intensely unsettling environment to traverse and learn about. Edit: 2:36:45 It was mentioned that the creator of this game was inspired by the novel, "House of Leaves", which actually makes a lot of sense. "House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski, is one of my all time favorite horror novels, and it is just an amazing "Horror Experience" about a really weird House. I say experience, because it legitimately is more than just reading a book, it's absolutely a horror experience like no other. I did feel like while watching this game, it definitely had some qualities that were similar to things that happen in House of Leaves. In case it's not obvious from my comment... Go read "House of Leaves".

23:43 Charlie unknowingly stutter stepping over the line teleport area causing a massive lag spike was hilarious (for those who dont know, the doom engine cant create rooms on top of one another, to create the illusion of a bottom floor, an invisible portal is created at around the area charlie is hovering here, to an entirely different area somewhere else, you can walk, see, and shoot through it, though evidently not entirely fluidly)
I don't see what you mean, I know there's a portal there but it's indistinguishable from the rest of the area. I don't even notice the lag spike you mention
MyHouse.WAD is amazing, the descent of a doom house map slowly twisting and turning into a sprawling nightmare with underlying tones like good dog, bad dog, the confession and the incoherent liminal spaces just can't be described with words.
The surrealist's nature of the many changing environments combined w/the horror elements of this remind me a bit, at the very least in its tone, of the film _Skinamarink..._

Charlie in this video is apathy personified from what Iv seen so far (which honestly is just Charlie's natural state, just him being him), but to me thats what makes this a poor video to experience MyHouse.wad with, its not fun even for people who do know what happens because charlie just isnt all that interested in it. Why is he trying to speedrun? He runs past things he's activated without even noticing like the sink and goes between hitting interact on everything in the same room repeatedly but then just completely ignores others so frustrating calm down dude and look with your eyes whats happening
OMG. Finally. I stopped watching his gaming VODs awhile ago because of that. Literally every f’ing game. He has no interest in gaming anymore, he just goes through the motions for viewers/content.
Well, no. Only in the first version of the house is it a true Doom house. After the first round, it becomes the True 3D house with rooms over rooms, and opening doors.
Damn wished Charlie read the file while playing the mod, I don't know who said playing it complete blind and don't read anything up but they are like 100 percent deadass wrong about doing it like that. Like the emotional moment only in the journal "Happiness has to be fought for" is so emotional, wished Charlie found that out while looking for the secret/true ending it's an insane and estatic feeling.
The people saying Underhalls is regular doom in this wad are very incorrect. It's 1, intended progressions to get the super shotgun and 2, it's a meta thing as the level itself also has a house of sorts in it. 3, it goes right back to my house and if you go into the mirror and finish the level, underhalls will also be affected.
its been possible to have room over room in doom for a long time now, at least 10 years there's several sourceports that update the game's engine to add stuff like silent teleporters so you can easily do stuff like room over room if you use them cleverly

@@split-atomz6487 In my personal opinion I can see why you think that, but I personally think he found most of it on his own. I think he's more analytical in a sense and actually stopped to appreciate/look at the house more. Love Charlie, but he's treating it too much like a speedrun and I get the feeling like he wasn't expecting much in the first place. Also in Jack's video, he said at one point he was recording for a while and looked up the steps for the sinks, so I think he went in blind and started to search up steps whenever something has been the same for too long, so I don't think he ever watched the video. Also people probably would have flammed him if he didn't find everything, so if he did watch the video I don't blame him, better than clicking on the same things and never paying attention to anything changing.

To clear up some misconceptions:
- No, this engine isnt 30 years old.

@@bjorntantau194 Funnest fact: Pedantism. The important part of the fact is that the game is playing it, and it's not part of Charlie's regular PC noises 😂

23:43 Charlie unknowingly stutter stepping over the line teleport area causing a massive lag spike was hilarious
(for those who dont know, the doom engine cant create rooms on top of one another, to create the illusion of a bottom floor, an invisible portal is created at around the area charlie is hovering here, to an entirely different area somewhere else, you can walk, see, and shoot through it, though evidently not entirely fluidly)
I don't see what you mean, I know there's a portal there but it's indistinguishable from the rest of the area. I don't even notice the lag spike you mention

Literally no reason for Charlie to have played this blind, glad he enjoyed it but he would've been better off just watching the video
One thing I hardly see people mention is the fact the basement exists. Doom maps are 2d so it should be impossible to have a 3d enviorment
its been possible to have room over room in doom for a long time now, at least 10 years
there's several sourceports that update the game's engine to add stuff like silent teleporters so you can easily do stuff like room over room if you use them cleverly

@@dxdraco1534no, just dropping my opinion and found it disingenuous of him because he was pretty much acting rather than reacting.
Ah. My favorite A24 movie "Every Enemy in the Game All at Once"

Everyone that enjoyed this needs to go out and buy themselves a physical copy of House of Leaves.
Someone should make a game where if you were just running too fast and not paying attention, it would just make the rooms bigger to compensate so you cover the same distance. Like you shrink as you sprint too much.
