- MG HS, Replacing rear discs & pads without using a diagnostic computer to wind the caliper pistons back.
Before all the keyboard warriors kick off, yes I left the caliper hanging by the brake pipe, it weighs vertually nothing so it wont hurt it.
No brake grease. If it doesn't have any from the factory then I don't use any. Simples.
Right that's that out of the way, enjoy the vid. - Авто та транспорт
Very well explained video. Getting ready to change out rear pads on my wife's '19 rouge w/ EPB. I wasn't sure about not having a scan tool. This helps me out tremendously! Thanks
I used your method today, and it worked beautifully. Thanks for this video.
Brilliant, just what I needed. Thank you
very good video, excellent work.
Thanks for sharing knowledge.
greetings from Chile
Brilliant ! PBG Thank you from near London UK.
No worries 👍
Interesting tips for EPB.
Excellent video, thanks
Yes Steve, I was thinking, "now those discs don't look like the non ventilated ones that came off...brake upgrade, oooh". Great tip for the diy epb crowd, good one.
I didn't even look. I'd already done one side and the disc was right. Wasn't expecting to have one right disc and one wrong one.
thanks my friend - took 3 hours to find you... 2020 GMC AT4 6.2 💪😉
The hose Steve! The brake hose we’re all going to die 😂😂😂😂😂
Started something now eh? I Should have said nothing 🤣🤣
Very nice job😊
Awesome video
Thank you very good video.
Just how I would have done it.
Brothers got skills 👍
Good work 👏
How not to do calipers and pads, you never leave calipers hanging on brake pipes, where is the copper slip,no torque wrench.
Right, this really is the last time I'm going to say this. The caliper weighs fuck all, it aint going to hurt the pipe. Copper slip on brakes? You're one of them are you? I bet you put that shit on battery terminals too eh? Find me someone that uses a torque wrench on calipers. I've been doing this nearly 40 years, I know way more than you.
Does anyone know if there is a scan tool that can be used on MG cars. Mainly looking for MG3 use thanks.
Great Video Sir , just my thought if disconnecting the battery terminals could help for the computer not to recognize the rear brake service and would it be convenience to do same time both Rr. LH and RH
My point is not to have a check light pop up on the dash on normal driving for most viewers that doesn’t have a special scan tools .
Legend
Great video thank you, can this be done on a Hyundai 140 back calliper? what happens if the brake doesnt work? cheers
If it has the same type of caliper as this then yes it can. I've never had one not work after doing this so I couldn't tell you.
not worry about brake hose with aluminum cast calipers , here in Canada in cold weather they carry many pounds of mud and ice on them all winter long , .
Totally agree about the brake flexi caliper hanging thing, never seen a problem. If the flexible brake pipes were that fragile, they should not be on a vehicle!.
Thanks for another great tip Steve!.
If it's a big cast iron 4 pot caliper then i'll tie it up, they are a bit heavy. But a little caliper like this one, it weighs bugger all.
Sorry Steve, you got there before me
amazing, man, does will it work same way on VW CC 2023. 2.0 Diesel manual gear?
If it has the same type of caliper as this then yes.
It doesn’t damage the motor?
Does connecting a power source to the motor terminals not work on this caliper? Also no one covers releasing the brake before commencing work, my car automatically engages it when ignition is off.
Quicker to wind it back than piss about with wires and a battery. You need to put it in service mode to stop the brake coming on. The procedure varies from one make to another.
How do I put the mg's epb in service mode?
All doors closed, Engine running, seatbelt fastened behind your back so you can get out, foot on brake, release epb and hold switch down, turn engine off while holding switch down.
@@pistonbroke Thank you. I have the electric version, the zs ev, but I'm hoping the procedure is the same. The caliper looks identical.
Finally someone using an impact ...zip ...done
Just reverse the polarity to the motor with a small 12 volt battery, which will depress the drive. No need to put apart the motor.
Quicker to wind it back than piss about with wires and a battery.
The ECU in the car will stop the actuator when it meets resistance each way, the battery method won't, even if you are careful with a battery, you risk damaging the internals of the actuator.
If you don't have a scan tool, phone app etc. then it's best to remove the actuator.
Is this the same on a 308 2019 with electric handbrake. I’m confused did you have the handbrake enabled to begin with or disabled as my 308 will auto enable it upon turning the engine off so I’m not to sure what I need to do
You would need to put the brake into a service mode so that it stays off while you are working on the car. There will be a video floating about somewhere that will tell you how to do this.
@@pistonbroke so as long as the parking brake is not on, I just need to remove the motor and then wind the piston back?
Yes, you push the piston back and wind the drive on the back of the caliper.
How do u do it on a 2019 silverado 4x4 drive 1500 to change a brake pads on da rear brake
I don't know. We don't have the silverado in the UK so I've never worked on one.
@@pistonbroke same way
another guy on here says you cant unplug the electrical connector or it needs sorting with diagnostic tool? is that right he was on a \hyundai i40. i dont want to unplug it and cause a problem.
As long as the ignition isn't on or the switch pulled while it is disconnected then it will be fine.
Great video, no p1ssing about. Gotta call you out tho, how the f are your hands so clean? Everybody goin on about hanging the caliper. The pressure this pipe handles under braking way out weighs hanging for a few minutes. Very helpful, thanks 🍻.
The caliper weighs next to nothing, if it was a big twin pot caliper then I'd support it. Dunno why my hands are clean, maybe the brakes just weren't that dirty.
thank you
Where is your garage located?
South Wales
Have you got a work email I could send a inquiry to?
Just tell the people what kind of car is that gracias de Guatemala..
Doesn't matter what car it is as most will have the same type of caliper.
What size T socket is that ?
Can't remember, T40 or T45.
@@pistonbroke T45
What if piston is extended to far Can this still be done?
Should be able to as long as it starts on the threads without crossthreading.
@@pistonbroke not budging will go further out but not in
@@joshdaniel-qs8oh wind the caliper till the screw comes to its stop then squeeze the piston back with grips or a G clamp. It should go back.
@@pistonbroke anyway i could call you I been stuck here 4 hours trying 😭
If it wont go back, lift the rubber boot and see if there is rust on the piston. If so then you need a new caliper.
no torque values, no copperslip, caliper hanging by hose, impact driver for everything messy work
🤣🤣🤣 copper slip ffs. Bet you're the type that puts that shit on battery terminals.
Y u not use Greece on anything 😮
Nope, unless it has grease from the factory, then I will.
Cheers mate
They were fronts
Shade Tree Techniques
Whatever the hell that means.
Thanks, but I won't let brake caliper hanging unsupported on its own weight. too dangerous for brake hose !
Whatever! I've already been through this god knows how many times. The caliper weighs next to nothing so it wont hurt the pipe. If it was heavy then I would support it. This is the last time I'm repeating myself.
Good luck brother! I never wanted to challenge your skills. Wonderful video. Thanks
you should of cleaned the caliper up with brake clean and never hang the caliper by the brake hose says this ASE MASTER TECH.
😮WoW less than 15mns, dealer at Rico motor home in Gallup NM will charge me $2,000
سلام از آموزشتون سپاسگزارم ولی با اون آچار کلاغی به پیستون ترمزدستی آسیب میزنید و این کار غلطی بود
I love it when people watch my videos because they don't know how to do something and then proceed to tell me that I'm doing it wrong. You couldn't make this stuff up.
@@pistonbroke شرمنده اگه ناراحتت کردم رفیق
@@javadkarimbeigi you didn't upset me, I just find it ironic and amusing.
Ppe lol 😂
Gotta call you out, It's a little bit hacky. Don't let your caliper hang like that Number one, And number two, don't open up that motor if you don't have to. Just get a power probe and hook it up to the battery and reverse that motor.
Caliper weighs next to nothing so it won't hurt the pipe. I didn't open the motor, I took it off. As long as the seal is intact then it will be fine. Far quicker than pissing about with a power probe.
Great video for those of us that don’t have a scanner tool.
Gotta call you out? Dry your eyes Princess, you don’t have to call anyone out - just accept YOU do things differently.
Agree and he didn't point out the importance of lining up the indentations on the piston to line up with lugs on the rear of the pad.
I didn't twist the piston so there's no need to realign it. Do I really need to spell everything out? Most of it is common sense.
