The Original Dune Buggy

Here is a look at the original dune buggy, which was used on the Sandunes at Pismo Beach California. Before there were purpose built dune buggy‘s, clever people would take an old Ford pick up truck, take the body off, mount the engine in the middle and shorten the driveshaft, and build a dune buggy like this one, which was very light, and had the weight centralized so there was enough weight over the back wheels to keep it from getting stuck. This video gives you a close-up look at an original vintage dune buggy. Very modern dune buggy has a lot of similarities to this original dune buggy, including being lightweight and having very little body work. Many of the new dune buggies have the engine in the back to keep even more weight on the rear wheels.
