I could listen to Darren describe a 1970’s motor home interior all day and still be utterly enchanted. He is delightful, funny and has such an approachable personality. His prices might be a stretch for me but I so appreciate his generosity in sharing his thinking process. Mine is similar and I thought i was somehow deficient for not having a firm plan from the beginning. I decorate as I go, finding things, living with rooms and allowing them to speak to me. It’s a slower process but kind of fun because of the hunt. Thanks Darren 😊

Darren Henault's bedroom, his enthusiasm, sophistication and wealth of knowledge - what a beautiful space. Now curious to view his Millbrook home. As to his statement that a certain style or 'thematic' comes from the back of his head, I think it's more that sometimes things take on a life of their own, and it's only afterwards that we interpret them and make our own observations. This is art that he creates, I love it - and wonderful to see, so does he!

His Millbrook home is a dream but his delivery is the show! I could listen to him for hours - he’s hysterical. Also check out his NYC home. Drop-dead gorgeous.

I don't mean to be repetitive, but I also like Darren Henault! He is very good at what he does, but it's his personality that I love. He is so funny and down-to-earth and isn't trying to impress anyone. Darren simply draws you in and casually explains his design style. I loved seeing him again, it was like seeing an old friend. I remember seeing his New York home on Homeworthy and explaining how expensive the drapery trim was. You only live once! His placement of the desk was genius and made perfect sense. Loved the painting of the parrot's claw; it even had an Oriental feel to it. Would love to see more of Darren in the future. 🦜

Instead of criticizing by looking at fabrics and pieces you don't like together, I would ask you to dig deeper and listen to the designers, who dropped plenty of gems on design and the vendors they used. The showhouses will always be over the top. That's why it's a showhouse. It's definitely on my design notes Folder

    To designers everywhere:
Homes are where “real” people live. Please do not try to come up with a design that no one else has created. We really don’t care. What we do want, are lovely, homes.

    • @tommypsue
      @tommypsue 8 місяців тому +2

Fine, for "designers everywhere", or most but not all places--because SHOW homes are all about pulling out all the stops, nearly theatrical, reaching for the stars, hat tricks, etc, and yes, coming up with new ones.

This reminds me of the tacky show on TLC from the early 2000's called "Trading spaces" 😮 it seems like the designers tried hard to be memorable....but it did not happen in the right way. BUT this makes me love my designed-by-me, functional living room that much more❤

I know this tour is a show house, so each room is catered to the designer's taste, but I am just wishing they can all come together, have a viewpoint, but also make the house cohesive. Like am I reaching for the stars here. I think that would be a real challenge and interesting in itself.

    Dreamy, evocative overall. Original, ARTISTRY.
The Julie Hayes bedroom/sitting room is sensational...effervescent, witty, and soothing, fern loving bliss.

Man this is a tough room:) Agree with what was said elsewhere about trying to learn something from this episode. I mean it’s a show house. I think any strong reaction to a room is probably a win for the designer. I did love that two person chaise and would buy it in an instant. Not that I will ever be able to afford it. Also love what was said about the use of silver, so under used these days. My favorite rooms were Ms.Falconers and that fabulous kitchen. I appreciate the opportunity to see the this house Alison. I like design in general so it was fun to get a little BTS and hear how designers think.

I am just going to write a book on all the things I adore about these rooms:
1.) Sara Hillery- I love the fresh green and blue Chinoiserie inspired design. The art pieces- the Dana Gibson piece and then the pocket watches in the shadow boxes are such a cool touch. I also like the bamboo tables and who wouldn't want a 10' velvet sofa?!
2.) Darren Henault: Thanks for the explanation of how the Kips Bay showhouse works for designers. That was enlightening. What can I say about this room?? Oh. My. Gosh. Absolutely gorgeous! This is the cat's meow! I want this room and the adjoining bath. From the fur trimmed lamp to the layered rugs. I love everything. If you ever actually make a suit from those Gracie curtains- please let me know. :D The tile in the bathroom is such a beautiful choice. It's classic and yet so fresh and modern with the grooved texture, yet in 30 years it will still be beautiful. I also love the what I think is Kohler Artifacts fixtures in the polished nickel- I just put their single towel racks at the end of my kitchen cabinets runs, so I adore that line.. it's nice when designers can use accessible fixtures for us regular folk.
3.) Rivers: The magnolia mural is so beautiful. This room is so soft and feminine with a tiny touch of bad girl thrown in with the Xanax box (loved that!) and the bar and the Scalamandre tiger footstool. That footstool is divine! Also I adored the art piece of your Aunty Betty in the WC.
4.) Mark D. Sikes- the dining room was fabulous and I would feel like I was in a Roy Lichtenstein painting in that room. Simply delish! I loved every detail in this room and the desk that you designed is spectacular. A phone that would work delightfully in that room is an ATC Genie phone from the 70's/80's in brown leather, there's a fellow online who sells these old phones, refurbished and in working condition- Richard Rose- ericofon, he did phones for Mad Men (and a kitchen I did in the past!) But your phone was pretty darling too!
5.) Julie Hayes- this room is so pretty and I find the green color palette so pleasing. The dressing room just seems so inviting and now I want to turn a closet in my house into a secret dressing room. The plaster fern motif on the ceiling just adds a beautiful detail The art choices she made were so cool!
    6. ) Kirsten and Kelli: The family room was so unexpected. I have never seen anything like it and I feel maybe it needs to be experienced in person because I believe the textures are the star of the show here. This room feels like a modern day Don Draper would live here. I was entranced with how you mixed the feminine floral pieces with the very manly plaid and yet it all married and just felt warm and inviting. That settee with the Australian sheep's fur is probably just decadent. And I am loving the Scalamandre fabric repeated in this room also.
7.) Julie Dodson, den: Madly in love with this room! The fabric choice for the room and the leather applied is just stunning. And I love the antique dresser. I really like how the smoke blue books look so gorgeous in the bookcase and the map piece of art that looks like it adds a touch of lavender with what I think is a brown and cream color scheme (at least that's the way it appears on my screens).
8.) Laura Lee Clark Falconer: I know most designers don't like an 8' ceiling, but I appreciated because I have 8' ceilings and seeing what a designer does with lower ceilings is helpful. The glass fireplace is soooo striking. And the Marilyn sofa with the very amazing coffee table looks comfortable yet sophisticated. One needs to carry a martini in that room at all times.
9.) Kurt Bielawski, kitchen and scullery: What an intriguing space. I love how he made a working kitchen into a stylish space. I like the fact that he used Jenn Air appliances- while considered a luxury they are pretty accessible and they have appliances that are hard to find such as a downdraft gas stove that's gorgeous. I appreciate his English inspired splashback with the shallow shelf . This kitchen is just pretty sexy with all the ovens and wood cabinets and high drama windows.

I like the personality of Darren Henault, but his style is a bit too much for me, but it is very exclusive. But all the other showrooms are so terribly overdone in my opinion, that I really can't understand how people might like this. But if so, fine. Maybe I' m too German for this....I don't know 😉

Lots of dreaming while watching this episode! Sarah Hillary’s tea for two room with the lush green couch and two tea tables made for a great space to chill out with a cuppa. I really loved her tea cart design and the addition of the playing cards. One of my favorite rooms was the bedroom by Darren Hanal! I do enjoyed his design lessons and learning the thoughts behind his choices. In my dream house I would definitely have his chaise for two! The fabrics, patterns and textures were marvelous. The very feminine bedroom by Rivers Spencer is so romantic and really is a beautifully subtle New Orleans styled room. I liked how Mark Sikes talked about using the dining room for different reasons than just eating. His discussion of how he would entertain using that room was a great lesson in making one’s guests comfortable. Julie Hayes idea of a divided girls bedroom was interesting, creating a sleeping area and a spectate sitting area to entertain friends was lovely. I liked the fireplace wall in Kirsten and Kelly’s family room. The fireplace screen was wonderful. The two really gave a great talk about creating a room that people actually live in, including the dogs! I would really love to sit and enjoy Laural Faulkeners family room. The Gracie wallpaper is magnificent! The kitchen was one of my most favorite spaces, so well thought out and designed. The island is really a cooks dream. I love his sitting area in the kitchen for friends and family to relax and visit while one is cooking. But the cabinetry in the scullery was wonderful, especially the dry goods cabinet!
Really so many great ideas in this kips Bay house. Now to just win the lottery to make dreams come true! Thanks for taking me into this design show house!

Love listening to Darren, wish he was in the UK. Hearing people talking in the background is very off putting when trying to listen to the designer

Designers working on their own and creating cohesiveness in a whole home--wonderful. Forcing multiple designers into single rooms and expecting a good outcome--nah.

I was so excited to see there was a new Homeworthy tour only to again be disappointed to see it’s just a bunch of different rooms designed by 22 different designers. The person operating this channel seems to have changed her ways-from private homes (yes many designer’s private homes) to episodes solely to advertise designers by showing the “rooms” they do. Perhaps she’s getting paid by these designers for their advertising episodes plus getting paid by ads on top of that. I’m so disappointed lately:( I hope she goes back to regular home tours or I’ll be moving on to another channel:(

I watched the first three designers ..something is amiss...is it architectural detail?....I think that and more. Just not into this episode. Maybe I will try again later.

Is this the”AFTER”? I get claustrophobia just looking at these rooms. Way too much draping, too matchy-matchy, too much furniture. Whew! The outside is very updated, lovely yard. Inside looks like something in the 40’s on steroids! 7:19

Too much information inside made it looks like not a home and more like a show room. Decorate a home is not make things to appear a scenary. It must reflex the dwellers and theirs taste as so as their personal interests. Didn't like the result at all. Bad mixes of old and modern created rooms that are not harmonious nor cozy.

It's gone from actual functional homes to static unused showrooms. "Homeworthy" is now "Adworthy", advertising sample design with no cap on the budget. Terribly unrelatable to those of us living in our real homes. I guess this is interesting to outrageously rich people who can redecorate on a whim, so it makes sense that this installment is in a city with a lot of people fitting that description. But I think the channel should label this video accordingly rather than appearing to be someone's home. I didn't know what the deal was with this place until several minutes in. I kept watching to see if it turned into something of interest to me. It didn't. I subscribed to Homeworthy to see how individuals decorate and actually live in their personal homes. Maybe we'll get back around to that.

The gentleman that designed the blue room talks to much. The claw photo in the bathos hideous. Who wants to look at that every time you use the room.

Not loving the rooms. I guess I was expecting a flow with the exterior. More of a modern, minimalist, natural vibe. Not loving 1980’s drapes.

This home decor is awful , feel free to disagree but there’s some fabulous homes here and this one feels like an interior design volcano spewed out anything and everything / most of it expensive but awful .
He loves it so that’s ok , and before someone tells me that I’m wrong or I shouldn’t be derogatory, I don’t care , it’s my opinion .

My taste is typically not thrilled by Modern, and overly feminine spaces. Henceforth, my personal favourite is the room created by Mak D. Sikes, but was also intrigued by Julie Dodson. Because I do love to cook and entertain for dinner, I was interested by seeing what Kurt Bielawski’s kitchen... although I was not overly excited by the result. The shape of that kitchen may have been part of why I did not fall in love the result...also the art selection was not my cup of tea...
