  • Winter finally hit Indiana and Tim and Katriel braved the cold to plow the neighborhood driveways with the John Deere 1025R and 54" snow blade. Katriel got her opportunity to try out the snow plow.

    First of all I want to thank Katriel for her sacrifice of being in the bitter cold to make this video our enjoyment. I thought she did an excellent job for her first time plowing. Tim I have the Carhart coveralls they are pretty warm. Maybe you both should a face mask or something to protect you faces in the bitter cold. Thanks for taking the time to film and edit this video and sharing it with us. You can be my neighbor anytime. LOL Yall are definitely good stewards helping your neighbors like you do. God Bless

    I remember when I was young my father told me to take the tractor and put the blade on it and plow off our driveway. after a few minutes the tires slid and I did a 180 on our drive way. It was so fun I started doing donuts. About 5 minutes later my father came out and said " Now that you packed all the snow on the driveway to go get the snow shovel and shovel the snow off. To this day I still feel it was sooo worth it! :)

    I've been working out the snow issue recently as well. I have concrete, asphalt and then gravel, about 1200ft total. I messed around a bit with the bucket and edge savers, they work and will be handy for moving piles. I also messed around a bit with the box scraper on the asphalt hill. It works great scraping compacted snow. However I found the best solution to be my 72" woods rear blade with and without skid shoes. I can push and pull but also found that removing the tilt pin allows it to follow uneven surfaces.

    Another good video Tim. Been following you for awhile now. One thing that I’d like to mention that I do with my 1025r and my grandparents did with their successful family business for 66 years strong way before now where there’s thousands of landscaping/Snowplowing companies out that he started when he got back home from WW2 was... He put in most of the lawns in the town people don’t even realize. He taught me to always to back blade, snow away from the garage/house and push piles out off to the side in the front of lawn lifting plow not to tear it up. No one wants piles of snow up around right in front of their houses. Just a friendly suggestion. When the snow melts, if basements have cracks? The plowed snow melting will go right into causing their basement to leak bad. Not a good technique could be why the one neighbor doesn’t want you to plow hers??

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  6 років тому

      Nah, she loves doing it herself...after seeing the video, she said that she was in her garage working on her snow blower when we were out, and wishes I would have plowed it this time. Oh well.
      Glad you are continuing to watch!

  • @davefontaine5816

    Got almost 20” where I am in Connecticut. A bit higher elevation so it was bitter cold to boot. The 54” blower and the heated Curtis cab handled it very well. The front of my house is currently a construction zone between my new garage and mud room being built so I had some extra snow to clear Sunday with a temp, (without wind chill) of -9f. With a hot shot in the fuel and no block heater, tractor lit right up, gave her 15 minutes to warm up and cleared my 300’ plus driveway nice and cozy even with the temps below zero. Initially thought maybe the cab was overkill, but I’m sure glad I got it now. Brrrrrrr

    They make some really nice cabs for that tractor. I know you have probably heard that enough, And I did see a video a while back you did on a cab. The cabs are quite a bit of money, And they do take a little time to put on. I will never go without a cab in the winter niw after having one. I wish I would have got one years earlier. With the bitter -20 degree windchill we have in my area right now it makes it really nice plowing. Just my 2 cents, May be another attachment in the future you may want. Along with many others I'm sure. Anyways, Another great video.

    Great video. The "plow" attachment there is truly the ticket. I have a JD Sabre garden tractor with a snow plow attachment and it does the job. I have a new tractor this year and don't have the plow attachment for it but I got a set of "Edge Tamers" to raise the bucket so I don't catch edges and such in my driveway. But it also leaves about 1/2" of snow behind too that gets compacted. Nice job and you may make me consider the expense for the plow or just get out my little "tractor" and get what's left. Thanks for the video.

    I love your YonderStar nativity scene. We had some neighbors in the 80s that had that set and it was always wonderful. Just last year I found the company online and my sister managed to get Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. My parents got her the three Wisemen this year to go with the set. Then Christmas Eve I received an email from YonderStar that the company that made the figures went out of business and there are no more available. That was a sad day, I guess I will never get my set now. :(

    Well this snow storm was a biggie for us in Connecticut. Unfortunately we don't have a snow plow on our 1025r. Fortunately someone does also help plow cause it's a shared drive. Happy New Year Marks family! When I was deciding on my snow removal solution after switching from first a JD Model 96 Electric with a blade (yes, both exist, and with electric motors you have incredible torque for plowing) then to a 1975 JD 210 with blade and 37A blowersnower (as Paul would say) for which the weight with heavy wet snow “persuaded” me to add the hydraulic lift kit, then moved to my 2305, the curved and geometric complications of living on a court, the experience of then being able to put snow precisely where I wanted it (especially after the articulated JD wheel loader comes through from the city contractor and piles it 4-5 feet high) caused me to go with the model 47 blower instead of the 54 so I could do sidewalks. But given your mentioning sidewalks, couldn’t you angle the blade and do it, or would you have to remove the wings? I can’t do the math for the angles in my head, but Katriel probably could....

    Im in the snow belt of upper New York state, its been around -5degF (about -25degF with windchill) for the last 2 days and has dropped over a foot a day. Just picked up a new 1025R a few weeks ago, plowing with a 5ft rear blade and the loader, not the most ideal for this area but that was all the finance committee would agree to, she has already told me I need to get the 54in snowblower for next year!

    Man I could’ve used your help today. Took nine hours to snow blow half my yard with a 44 inch blower. Some drifts are five feet high.

      We can't find carharts to fit the ladies. So, we found these 'body covers' They work really well. She wasn't cold cept for feet, hands, and face.

    As much as I love tractors I'm sure glad I have a nice western for the front of my truck lol nice heated cab! although I do like the tractor for getting really close to garage doors and cars it can be a guessing game with the truck. Dream is to one day get a nice skid steer

      @TractorTimewithTim  6 років тому +1

      Yea, truck blade is better for lots of situations, but the tractor works well on these driveways.

      Same user. But yeah I have a good example video on this channel. A couple years ago we had one of those major storms hit the daytime video is my second pass of the storm. Had a second major storm happened that winter I would have had to rent a skid loader to move the piles.

      Yes, 2210 with front blade would be very similar to Johnny and blade.

    Katriel sure did catch on quick and did a great job. I think it is great how you help out the neighborhood. One question I have is whether or not you put down and de-ice material after you plow. Does the little thin layer of snow that remains melt off or evaporate on its own?

    Wondering what you hooked your extra lights up to above your turn lights? I want to put something on to shine backwards so I can see at night backing up or maybe even using the backhoe after dark. Not that I plan on that! Looking forward to snow this year. Might be a little faster than my 55 year old 10 horse MF. 32 inch blade.
