Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 чер 2024
- An in-depth synth studio tour of Johnny Morgan's synth recording and music studio. Johnny is a 20+ year AAA video game sound designer, TV & film composer and keyboardist. He also runs the popular Synth Dreams UA-cam channel at @johnnymorgansynthdreams. In this studio tour he showcases his synth & modular collection and shares insights as a musician, composer and video game music & audio creator.
Johnny Morgan has 20+ years experience in sound design and music composition for AAA title video games and consoles including Electronic Arts (SSX Tricky, FIFA Street, Need For Speed Carbon), Nexon Publishing (MMO titles), and Microsoft (audio director).
His music has been featured on TV shows including The Sopranos, NCIS, Big Bang Theory and the Mark Wahlberg film "Contraband". He also posted sound design for the Olympics Opening Ceremonies in 2010.
Johnny is super passionate about synthesizers, especially vintage synths. On his Synth Dreams UA-cam channel ( / @johnnymorgansynthdreams ) you'll find synth jams, various insights and best of all, a ton of well researched and captivating synth documentaries covering synthesizer history and the synth industry.
In addition to all this, Johnny ran a house music label (Powerplant Music) and was a touring keyboardist for metal bands Strapping Young Lad and Fear Factory. He continues to write and perform music with the electro-industrial band Unit:187 (unit187.com).
This synth studio tour and interview barely scratches the surface of Johnny's many accomplishments and talents. I want to thank him for giving me the time to visit his music & recording studio, and allowing me to share his synth passion and industry knowledge with you.
Hope you enjoy the studio tour and thanks again, Johnny!

Johnny loves his Rolands! ...and we love Johnny!
Absolutely! :)
Johnny's great, and big thumbs up for the ESQ1!!
Awesome tour. I love Johnny Morgan's mini docs!
Eton St. Cvlt represent!
We watch your minidcos Johnny! And we LOVE the Jupiter 6! One thing you don't hear people talk about when comparing to its older brother is that the JP8's oscillators are discrete, but only go down to 16' footage. The JP6 has mixable waveforms and can go down to 32'. The 8 just doesn't get as low and dirty!🤣
Very interesting about the JP6 vs 8... I love the documentaries, too!
D50 ... cool color ) plus the side lettering looks great
💙thanks for sharing
Excellent! I really enjoy his videos. He captures the essence of that era. He totally gets it. Like discussing the connection between the ESQ-1 and Commodore computers, which was the first computer for so many kids. One of the reasons I love the ESQ-1 is because of that lineage. Really cool to get some insight on Johnny. Thanks!
Absolutely, love the nostalgia form that era and he captures it perfectly!
I know Johnny from his Powerplant and progressive house making days. Nice to see he's still involved!
Awesome!
So glad to see another musician who isn't ashamed at buying/using Behringer stuff.
Amazing ☺♥♪
Great docs, I found I was already subscribed! 🎹
Excellent!
Marble Madness had wonderful sound! The whole game sounds like a B. Fleischmann album. That and the C64 game The Last Ninja really mesmerized me as a kid. And I love that Johnny randomly has Journey's Jupiter 8. 😂
Great games and memories! And yea, that JP8 is one of a kind, great story behind it.
Excelent studio and interview. Greetings!
Great studio and interview gents!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
The Jaspers stands are amazingly stable, absolutely!
By the way, they´re made in Germany
They are - I love them! Going to buy another soon I think. And yes - built in Germany - thank you!
tastes in synths may differ but we all have the same jasper stands xD
@@vibratemutate They are the best! Only way to properly stack up keyboards.
@@johnnymorgansynthdreamseah, I’ve got my JD-XA top, JD-800 mid & SY99 bottom and super stable which that A-frame certainly needs to be with those 2 old vintage beasts hanging off it! The XA is like plastic air in comparison but amazingly so powerful still like the old late 80’s/90’s HW!, how things move on right….. loved the mini studio tour, a lot of nostalgia there 😎👍🎹🎶🇬🇧💥
Nice to see @johnnymorgansynthdreams "in person"..!
Yes, he is real! :)
My first store bought keyboard was ironically the Roland S-10 the S-50 little brother. I remember the convincing I did with my parents back in the 80's to get it.
Johnny’s one of the best things to happen to games. Slayboarder and Darkpath are two regulars on my playlists!
Awesome!
Amazing vid! Subbed! 👍🏻
Thanks!
Very nice guy. Great video. I just want to hear some industrial now!
Right on!
Old NFS music was my fav type of electronic music back in the day. Demo-scene originality with good production values.
Awesome! Demo scene was an amazing time.
This Man knows his stuff
100%!
Cool dude and setup, also fun that he knows Rom de Prisco, video game OST legends.
Yes, he is well connected. :)
Nice modular setup
Yes indeed!
Nice setup...what is the black Roland device running the 303s?
Peace from Oz.
The first software when I was doing games was ACID. Loops for acid were a huge timesaver. I had the Intel Celeron 300Mhz overclocked to 450MHz and Cubase VST 3.7. I remember using Echo audio interfaces and various rack romplers, a virus, a few analog synths and all outboard yamaha, lexicon and digitech effects.
Very cool, sounds like a decent setup for back then!
I still have the JX-10 and i had Junos...I have to say the JX-10 is just the best sounding Roland synth...no wait, it's just the best sounding synth ever. I know, every synth has its sound, but....holy cow, JX-10 all day long, peace
“Just kind of a workspace”
Ive only just realised who this is.. His UA-cam channel is absolutely awesome
Yes it is, glad you enjoy it!
👍I LOVE !
💙⚪❤
Cool guy. btw, when I played a Synthex once, I also had the feeling of playing my JP6.
Very cool! Maybe they are distant cousins. :)
That is a great description he has for the MOTM. I own one, and when I need something done for a deadline, I go to the MOTM and not my Eurorack because it is a SYNTH. It is so playable and immediate and sounds so good. People don't know what they are missing.
Yeah cuz it's a synth, nothing else in there is a synth, like it's a synth, not eurorack cuz eurorack sucks, it's not a synth, this is a synth because it's like a synth. 😵💫
@@sushimandaddi If you owned one, you would understand. But you don't.
maybe use a lav mic for Johnny so we can hear him ;)
If I had one, I would
What's up with that Cm chord that he's playing on those keyboards? Does he know other chords?
He was just briefly showing some quick sounds, no biggie.
@@synth4ever I don't trust any keyboardist opinion who doesn't know music, it's like buying a sport car from a bodega store salesmen
Tip for u, u should absolutely swap the mic ur wearing and give that to the studio tour person 😉. That’s kinda more the interesting focus rather than hearing ur reaction mate ha.. just sayin..
Jaspers stands are great love mine.. no surprise hearing his influence is of course from England 🏴, DM / Howard jones etc, ur welcome 😉 it’s one of the things we do incredibly well on our tiny lil island called Blighty. We have an endless list of incredible bands, artists, producers 👊
Ssx was incredible cool game!!!!! So nice to see a face behind the music, he did a crackin job on that game
Thanks for watching! I was just using my cell phone for this one. SSX Tricky was definitely cool!
a functioning ESQ1? cool
yeeah. Likee Yeaaah. Cool. Yeaah. Like Like its yeah cool it is like cool stuff type stuff. Hah such a chill tour of a place where i'd scream.
Hehe... it's hard to contain the excitement!
See. There we go again. Its getting a bit wierd bro. Everytime i see you have posted something i get excited. Kudos. Once again.
lol, thanks for the support! :)
TBH
Nice studio. lovely synths., but damn this guy is an extreme uptalker.. it's like every sentence sounds like a question? And it just get really annoying? lol.. Sorry man, I stopped watching half way through.
Nice setup...what is the black Roland device running the 303s?
Peace from Oz.
Looks like an SBX-1
