Is Edvard forgetting his +1 tinker dice bonus going to become the new Egbert doesn’t use his spell/abilities? Is there a curse of E-Flat in the ability department of named characters?
Find out next roll on Oxventure presents, Memes in the Light.
@@Brythnoth_of_the_Void Hardly the same since those are closer to skills and ability scores than out and out powers. He should mark it as one higher on his pips but leave the ability checked so as to not double dip.
@@MorinehtarTheBlue effective, but since the ability is supposed to be able to let you exceed the normal skill cap, it would be annoying when leveling up. Maybe mark a pip off the track, or just leave a note saying, check abilities.
its more like how dob has jack of all trades and never uses his +1
It would be extremely funny if Astor has no clue who Edvard is when they meet and the rivalry is all in Edvard's head.
If he's driving people out of business left and right, how the hell is he supposed to remember every last egg he's ever cracked?
I was imagining a Tesla-Edison relationship, such that Edvard previously worked for Astor until he realized he was being exploited. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Edison didn’t recognize (or pretended not to recognize) Tesla a year after he quit the Edison Machine Works.
To be honest I would be disappointed if Astor _did_ recognize Edvard. The whole running gag about the rivalry makes much more sense if it is all in Edvard's head.
Bettwr still, he absolutely knows who Edvard is, in fact having legitimately stolen at least his first big seller inovention from Edvard, it's where his paranoia stems from.
Of course, Astor give an academy award winning performance, pretending to have no idea who Edvard is, but would recognize him through near any disguise Edvard dawns.
It would be a fun twist eventually, after a long while and many play sessions to reveal "Of course I knew it was you, Lumiere! I have always known!"
Like Doc Hammer’s made up rivalry? He created a whole character, the Monarch, over it.
The best way to prepare for this heist, is the Wester-Way.
You sir are a goddamn genius
...boooooo
I too would like to add a (of encouragement)
"There's three ways to do things. The right way, the wrong way, and the Wester-Way!"
"Isn't that the wrong way?"
"Yeah, but funnier."
When Luke said that a burly person was coming to escort Zillah out, I have to admit I was half hoping for "All right, miss, come with m-- Zillah?! I haven't seen you since you left the ring!"
Now _I_ wish that had happened as well. XD
Imagine if every other caper featured Zillah being accosted by Burly Security Guards... for her autograph because they are HUGE fans, goodness, ZILLAH! Can you believe it!
@@BattyButtercup I really hope Luke reads this comment thread, because that would be such a great running gag... :P
Edvard naming his invention "Lumiere Magic Lanthorn Box" is the Oxventure in the Dark equivalent of signing "Corvo Attano" into the guest book at Lady Boyle's party.
I like how Zillah is 100% confident and focused when she's doing something within her area of expertise, but basically turns into a toddler in the innovention room when she realises she's completely out of her depth.
So, what do you make?
Zillah: "A racket"
Edvard: "The film Shrek"
From the moment Andy introduced Edvard with a fantastic rant about his Edison rival, I have been waiting for this moment.
Same tbh, I want to meet the man, the rival of our eccentric boi, Mr Astor himself
Agreed
But how is one supposed to shake the hand of the devil
ASTOR I curse thee!!
I am so hype for a whole episode of dunking on Astor brand products. Which, are all garbage, of course. My neighbors Astor brand dog just died of super cancer yesterday. Terrible shame.
SUPER-CANCER? Was the dog named kennel by any chance?
Super cancer is horrible to be fair. Gotta stick a lumiere anal probe to get rid of that. It's the only way.
@@karmak8685 bullocks when I did that my dog exploded!
My favorite is when Luke has so many NPC’s he has whole conversations with himself 🙃
I love how I never even notice until someone points it out, because it's so entertaining and Luke manages to make his characterisation of each even brief NPC distinct
The look of Jane's face when Andy is being cheap again...priceless...😂😂😂
I was hoping she'd make some form of deadly razor sharp brass knuckles or something. =)
Ok but the throwing a punch at Zilla expecting and knowing she'll block and show off is just some wonderful character work
The fact the astor has a patten pin for sale irl instead of edvard is halarious I'm howling, so good, so brittish :)
I assume the design was stolen from Edvard, who has an A in his first name
@@christophersmith8316 quite yes hmmmmm (scratches chin)
Brilliant as always. Loving the fact that Zillah's already been carted off by security and Edvard couldn't help but shout his own name. Also like the third party information that Astor really is a jerk and isn't just a nice guy who's more successful than Edvard.
Yes I've been so excited for an Edvard and Zillah episode! High Int, low Wis and low Int, high kicks
Love the word play
So... How many Wonderful Mechanical Men does it take to screw in an Astor light bulb?
Seven. The answer's always seven.
@@EricHVela I heard Andy say this.
279: one to get it out, one to screw it back in and 277 to cry, fall apart and wish for death
It's impossible, an Astor lightbulb is to hard to screw in, and that's why you should go and buy yourself a brand new, 100% guaranteed to work, Lumierbulb. No I'm not working for Mr. Edvard so stop asking
Two; but only Edvard can make them small enough to fit in the light bulb.
Can't wait for Astor's nose to change its mind about not being broken.
I am still fully expecting to discover that Edvard's assistant is unwittingly providing Astor with information on Edvard's innoventions, proving that Edvard wasn't paranoid at all. Fingers crossed!
@@thundercookie3214 Ah yes, Aloysius (or however you spell it), who dropped Edvard's favourite retort. Revenge for being spurned his promised trip to cab-con for which he had be waiting all year! XD
The 1 dislike proves Astor is always watching
The other 2 are Astor’s knockoff mechanical men.
@@SorowFame the automatic associates? Such a cheap cash-in, those were.
@@brentage5000 Paradox detected: Astor doesn't know that the WMM exists yet.
I'm sure if given time, resources, and authority, Astor will have himself a case of 1984.
I'm shocked and disappointed that Wester didn't leave the action by shouting "Wester Away!" and fling a cape around his shoulders.
Holy crap, Edvard Lumiere was the guy who created Shrek. I hope no one has to argue with his brilliance
*Shork.
@@michaelpirrone Right, because he didn't want the copyright patent to be an issue. Also a reference to one of the Jackbox 5 games. I can't remember a specifically which one it was
Love Edvard's face at the end there lol
"...."
:|
"I'm sorry, what?"
"his reach is incredible, you wouldn't credit it" is one of the greatest things I've heard in quite some time
These dialogue-heavy social stealth episodes, like Heist Society and Exhibition Impossible, are always my favorites! I love seeing the characters' chemistry with each other and how they interact with the DM's NPCs.
Yes! There's a lot of great RP, too, thanks to the two-at-a-time format.
Absolutely loved the sudden pivot when Edvard almost gave the game away with naming his invention.
Can I just say, I love how they made 2 different series for the different channels. DnD for OutsideXbox, and Blades in the Dark for OutsideXtra.
I hope next episode involves a highly unscientific fist fight between Edvard and Amadeus.
I imagine Astor and Edvard meeting being like that scene in Django Unchained, with Edvard going "I couldn't resist"
Edvard forgot his +1 to tinker roll dice again.
i believe their needs to be a sparkcraft element to get that bonus roll
@@Icam_here I agree, I also agree that effectively a projector with a spirit counts as sparkcraft. But true, that makes sense.
41:13 A reminder to always wear your safety goggles when doing science
He should have build a timer self-destruction in the box so that when Astor copies it 1 to 1 his boxes will all go up in flames after 2 or 3 months.
Flashback- now he did! At least my head canon contains that flashback now.
I'm praying that Astor is actually a 90 year old man who Edvard only met once at a party and has never heard the name....name....Edmund...Lemoore? Who is that?
I watched this coming out of an episode of Critical Role, and on Zillah's first role, I had a mini brain fart upon realizing that a six is, in fact, really good.
Yup I'm to used to dnd. I thought 6 oh that's not good. The I remembered and was like "Oh Oh OH!"
Me at the beginning: Yay!
Me at the very end: Ooh no.... Nonono not unsupervised! Gorey by name and maybe also by nature next time. I bet there's an apparatus for dealing with his hated rival...
The real question is, does it rival the galaxy-brain insanity of the Westaway Gambit?
Is that the gambit where you immediately tell everyone you're the imposter, or the gambit where you merrily follow the imposter around and protect them from the consequences of their horrible murders?
Both. Both is good.
@@shotgunshells2 the latter is the Westaway Gambit: Spacebuddy Variation.
If Edvard doesn't stab Astor with a screwdriver in the next episode, that would be a good start.
Ah so Screwey, Jane's emotional support murder weapon, is gonna appear? Neat.
One quirk that I love about this series is that the characters talk to the narrator. It isn't Andy and Jane talking to GM Luke, it is Edvard and Zillah talking to the narrator.
This whole episode is just Andy being mad at Astor and I love it.
Thanks for another part of this great adventure Luke! And thank you Jane and Andy for bringing it to life!
It’s been so cool watching Luke on his journey to becoming a truly excellent GM, and falling in love with the hobby.
"I rethink my sheet-metal idea," is right up there with "I remain huffy."
Pints of snakebite and black with an aftershock depth charge is the most student-y drink I have ever heard of
I find it hilarious how Edvard immediately introduces Zillah by her real name, both first _and_ last, considering they’ve both begun lives of crime now.
I look forward to the day, far in the future, where we get a cold open with Edvard standing silently, watching through cold merciless eyes, as a Wonderful Mechanical Man slowly chokes the life from a struggling Amadeus Astor in his own office as ranks, legions, of WMMs stand arrayed in military fashion behind him and people scream and flee Astor Towers as flames lick from various windows. The narrative then jumps back several weeks as we see how these events came to transpire.
Perfect all is going according to my plan
anyone else hope the next episode ends in a slap fight between Edvard and Amadeus?
I've determined my FAVORITE BinD character
Is the character that is on screen at the time.
What do you do when they're all on screen?
I like Barnaby. I never disliked Mike, but I’ll admit Ellen, Andy and Luke are the personalities that got me coming back. I had no idea he was that funny until I started watching Oxventure, but Mike is such a great player and he knocked it out of the park for this series. If I’m being honest, Egbert is my favorite too.
Edvard is my spirit animal.
I hope whatever gave Jane that scar on her bicep wasn't too painful.
Thanks to BitD I now have 10 favourite roleplay children instead of five! Spectacular RPing and DMing.
Settling down with a mug of tea. Made by Astor's fully functional kettle of course.
It's not the lumiere kettle because Astor staged a public display beating old ladies to death with one which made people think it was dangerous to keep around
@@aiden4163 I saw the demonstration. It convinced me. Lumiere's kettle is just plain dangerous. What kind of monster invents a device that murders little old ladies and makes tea at the same time?
*shakes my head*
The final frames, with Edvard's contemptuous twitch of his moustache made it for me.
He blinded me with science!
And hit me with technology...
I love how Edvard's hate towards Astor is driven by the belief that he plagiarises all of Edvards inventions... then Edvard proceeds to produce a box that, effectively, displays a bootleg version of a somewhat popular animation.
So, while Corazon is an actual Pirate, Edvard is now (seemingly) pirating movies. Andy's love of all things pirate is inescapable.
Though I doubt the animation already exists in-universe, so does it really count as piracy? Edvard must have just seen it in a dream...
Considering they make references to things as ballads or theater all the time even in the D&D fantasy era it's highly possible for it to predate Edvard. Though considering the timeframe it could also have easily fallen in to public domain by now.
Omg i am Sooo INVESTED in this chapter. I wanna see how things unfold between Edvard and Astor
Wow the Astor Innoventions pin does feel kind of Cthulhu-esque
I predict Edvard having to roll dice every 10 seconds not to choke Astor in part II
So where, pray tell, is my Edvard pin?
Astor probably fed it to a penguin, which then caused it to choke to death, and so people boycotted the Edvard Pin.
I demand a little lightbulb above a human head saying “Lumiere”
Ohhhhh that ending! So intriguing!
This was brilliant. So many favourite moments here, can’t even list them.
Now only an hour before the next part premieres.
Seriously, SERIOUSLY, Andy's FACE at the end. Is SUCH a mood.
Fits of edvard rage incoming and I am all for it they never did say a name but the burning bandits are back
The last section had me in shivers... When she leaned in and said what we all wanted her to say...
Well done, Luke! Well done!
I love that Edvard actually got to invent another device that's actually useful.
I have a great affection for Zillah the Humanitarian 😂
Black snakebite for a student drink is so spot on that I'm getting queasy just thinking about it.
There is a new era of incredible innovention coming to Volisport and by God you best strap your seat belt because it's gonna be a wild ride
@keywest_away: Are you aware of the Victorian/Gilded Age/Edwardian subgenre of science fiction known as “Edisonade”? (If not, I expect Andy will tell you all about it.)
Edvard: I can take care of myself, look I created these electrical punching fists (holds up fists)
Zillah: I step back from the electrical punching fists
Luke: wise
😂😂😂
Now I know how that one fanfic got started o_o
I love Jane's gloves.
This is literally the two most chaotic members of the gang trying to work together. Barnaby is manageable chaos, but these two together? dear lord.
It says Edvard and Zillah in the description.
@caitlin RC this episode is about Edvard and Zillah but I still agree with your point none the less! Barnaby is chaotic lol
That's what I'm saying. It's Edvard and Zillah, who together are utter chaos. Barnaby seems like the most chaotic member but Edvard/Zillah. Madness
@@CaitlinRC Oh, my mistake. I thought you were talking about Edvard and Barnaby. Yeah, this should be a fun episode.
Same I thought you were saying Barnaby and Edvard I must have read it wrong my mistake!
Edvard alternately curses Astor while Astor directly condemns Edvard- how shocking; I sense a current here...
Love that the Astor Company are considering giving Cornelius Gorey the job but probably wouldn’t let him buy any of their products because he has the same credit score as the ghost he just used in his innovention
Are credit scores used outside of the U.S?
@@marcsidanparker2373 We have them in Australia as well. Not sure if they work identically but the concept is the same.
I feel like Wester's surname should be Way.
Wester what?...
Late to the party, but Wester why?
did Astor invent the elevator in this realm? The ElevAstor!
he probably also stole it from Edvard when he invented the Edvard Elevard
I saw that poster at the start and I immediately gasped, thinking they released some sort of book, like a fan-made Xanathar's equivalent for Blades in the Dark and I got really excited.
Merch still looks super cool though!
Kasimir's Guide To Everything would be a fun read. Lumierre's Tome Of Foes and Barnaby's Guide To Monsters would be nice too.
I was hoping the devil's bargain would be "extra dice, but if it works you can only create ghostly Shrek: The Third."
Also, Luke's old-timey way of describing exciting "new" technology is top-notch. I want to study oscillotronics now! Also I want to ride an eleva-torr! And core an apple!
So I'm watching this a few weeks late I've been busy and just started the video but my guess is Edvard is going to make short work of Astor's lock because despite all the hype Luke brings to the Astor's inventions somehow Edvard dismantles them in seconds.
Only recently found the series. I'm hoping for the same thing at the end of part two.
This is a day one masterpiece!
Every time Luke says “There’s no chance of me screwing up this roll” I just expect the worse. Why would you curse yourself like that?
I love this series.
"Done it already. It's easy. It's easy."
I can't explain why this defeated me quite the way it did.
It's fun watching Edvard use the workbench like he's a villager in Animal crossing
Yes! the team up I have been waiting for!
I've just noticed Andy's jacket, and wow! I love it!
Funny enough, oxtra streams of blades is what got me into playing it with my long time group
Never miscalibrate the ghost.
That’s the new “Don’t be a Dob.” I’m calling it.
I'm so sad I noticed this video was going up after I stayed up playing games all night. Will watch as soon as I can but here, take my likes!
Methinks Andy has been perusing the latest additions to Netflix for his lumiere box...
37:25 Edvard’s meta moment is 🔥
Oh this is gonna be good. I am looking foward to Edvard doing a none stop rant for 20 minutes about how Astor steals the ideas of other inventors. Only two questions, will Astor try to electricute an elephant? The other question is did Astor invent the electric chair?
Please give us a Blades in the Dark podcast!
Wester's first name is Waylon, or just Way for short.
Zillah and the anti-stress metal sheet
The entire time they were talking about how to get in I was waiting for someone to say it was the "Wester-way"
Anyone else get the feeling that Edvard's mind-reading/memory erasing hat is the same as the one he claimed would reduce the swelling of Zilla's face
ASTOR, OMG I HAVE BEEN HYPED FOR THIS EPISODE SINCE I HEARD ASTOR'S NAME
This will be fun.
btw - I started with series 2 and I'm now watching series.
7:52 this could actually be a good opportunity, have the gang set up a "middle man" supplier. selling the parts at a mark up, giving Astor a black eye, and setting the gang up with passive income.
I am increasingly beginning to like this more than their dungeons and dragons play through
25:25 that dice was Fudged!
The Astor Disaster
I've played so much KSP that the music at the start of the job fair just had me thinking about badly built rockets...which I mean isn't really out of character.
I did a full body grimace when Andy mentioned snakebite black. Too real, Andy, too real.
Can we get a Edvard pin next?
