    I'm thinking of getting my first detector and your video has me a bit confused. You set your machine so it will find a penny but not a gold ring ? So to find a ring you have to have it set to detect all metals ? Is there no way to discriminate between junk ( bottle caps, pull tabs ) and gold jewelry ?

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  6 років тому

      Thom Vogan Gold will fall in the entire mid conductor range. Foil...nickel... pull tab...zinc. On this detector the discrimination is analog...so I cannot notch out sections like a digital machine can.

    Awesome review. I have a creek that is giving me gold flake in pans. I’ve just been digging, classifying and then panning. Just wondering, there is a lot of iron, like magnetite chunks the size of shotgun shot. Would this detect nuggets amidst all the iron?

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  3 роки тому

      It would have to be a significant sized nugget...half the size of a dime or so. A dedicated gold prospecting machine would for sure be better in a situation like that...but this same Gold Digger has found some large nuggets from others. So if luck is on your side...yes.

    • @CaliforniaCarpenter7
      @CaliforniaCarpenter7 3 роки тому

      @@thehuntergt That’s what I’m hoping for - I’ve spent so many hours panning on this crick that small little pickers and flake won’t do it for me. I ordered the Bounty Hunter thanks to your review, and bare minimum I hope to find some old coins or relics detecting the old dredge lines.
      I really appreciate the information, man. I bought the “gold nugget coil” for it and hopefully I can pinpoint the valuables. There is an old shithouse the prospectors used to use and maybe there was a coin spill! God Bless!

    I got a used one from ebay but it looks brand new...however, well hell, thing doesnt work too good...everytime I put my hand on the metal rod part, it goes crrazy, I didnt have any rings on, checked the connection, was tight...what would cause it to beeep when my hand touched the rod? how deep can this one find metal cuz I had it over a piece of barbed wire andd it didnt beep till about an inch above it. TY

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  4 роки тому +1

      Only thing I can think of is the wire is exposed and is touching the metal somewhere. With trash knob on lowest setting...and sensitivity to highest setting. It should sound off on a coin sized target at 5 inches.

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  6 років тому

      While it would find larger nuggets the size of a dime...it would not be useful for smaller gold nuggets which is 95% of the gold out there. I would not recommend it no. However...I would run it 100% sensitivity and 0% discrimination if I did.

    • @thehuntergt

    what's the best discrimination dial setting position to find only gold (natural and manmade) or to single out gold as much as possible?

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  2 роки тому

      Toss a rusty nail down...turn the dial until it grunts...then dig the rest. Gold runs from foil all the way to the zinc range. You must dig the entire foil - nickel - tab - screw cap - zinc range of targets to find gold.

    What depth

  • @conan6908
    @conan6908 6 років тому +1

    Hello Hunter GT. This detector is basically the same one as the VLF model. The only difference I can tell is that they differ in their facade. This must have been a marketing ploy. I'm really disappointed with the depth as it definitely is a lightning quick machine but it's lack of depth severely hampers an otherwise perfect machine but for $50, what can one expect, right ?? It's only rival in terms of recovery speed/response time is the Famous Trails GC-1023 (two-tone) which is on par with detectors costing many hundreds of dollars more. The Chinese one can be roughly $125 new though. The Chinese really did their homework on their product, in terms of the rec. speed/response time. There's also the MD-1023 as well as the GC-1022(minus the meter and a little cheaper). I think it is marketed in Britain under the maplin name.These are 'right beside' the BH Gold Digger in terms of recovery speed/response time and are deeper than the BH Gold Digger. I tuned my GC-1023 up internally by adjusting the sensitivity potentiometer and now it will air test detect a zinc penny at 8". I also had to readjust the tone as my sens. adjustment changed the tone as well but it does an AWESOME job in my local park on coins to 8/9" deep. BANG-ON solid, loud, positive high tone on good targets and low tone for the disc'd out trash targets.

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  6 років тому

      Prairie G I've always said if this Gild Digger was a couple onches deeper there woild be no reason to own the Tesoro Compadre. By far one of the fastest machines out there...and also passes a nail board test.

    • @lotwguide33
      @lotwguide33 6 років тому

      most people sweep too quickly for deep targets ,sweep slower and stay just above ground,most deeper signals will barely register,just a tiny blip ,headphones allow you to hear those real low volume blips

    • @conan6908
      @conan6908 6 років тому

      Hello lotwguide33,
      yep! The headphone technique I really got discouraged away from but I have to say that if I were to replace my old "clunky" headphones and my worn out "featherweight", walkman-type with some lighter-weight, round 'studio' wraparounds, I think you're right; I'd probably (re)amaze myself with at least a (few) deeper signals, I never would've heard from just the main speaker but comparing the preadjusted sound level of these models to some other machines, these machines a (pretttty) loud, (especially indoors)lol!

    Can the coil be swapped on this thing?

      iCharmCity410 No it can't. It is hardwired.

      TheHunterGT what bounty hunters do you recommend that you could swap out the coils? I’m thinking about getting a better one. This is my starter one. I’m torn between quick draw, lone star pro, and land ranger pro?

      iCharmCity410 Land Ranger Pro is by far the best detector that Bounty Hunter makes. It can swap coils and use aftermarket coils. It is $250 on Amazon. However...the Teknetics Liberator is the exact same machine. Just a patriotic faceplate and different name. Use my code A1474 at www.tekneticsdirect.com to get it for $219 with free shipping factory direct. 5 year warranty as well.

      iCharmCity410 My pleasure. First Texas owns Bounty Hunter...Teknetics...Fisher Labs. So often their machines are very similar (or in the case the LRP and Liberator are the same).

    I ordered this with a pointer and a few other digging accessories on Amazon. Had to cancel every order the next day. Found out in most of CA this is useless. Its illegal to use these on pretty much all beaches. And if its not, digging is illegal due to preservation regulations. Incredible. :/ pretty much what I was going to use it for.

      cgtalk ! Metal detecting is legal on all California beaches....even State beaches. Only beaches that have military areas are off limits. There are hundreds of people detecting CA beaches daily.

      TheHunterGT dont know where you got that info. But your detector will be confiscated and ticketed if you search starting from Ocean Beach all the way down and up the coast. Thats from several people warning me about it. Apparently go up north of SF and the park rangers are total dicks and will take our stuff and call the local cops. Correct me if I am wrong please. I really wanted to get into this hobby.
