With all the added weight with your build, try looking into re-gearing your differentials into a better ratio. Keep in mind the weight of your rig and also your tire size. Though this process will not so much help with your speed, it will really come through with your gas mileage and prevent engine strain. Love the channel!!!
Thank you for keeping it real. Most people only show the best parts of the story, it's a great reminder to see it's not all sunshine and bunnies. :-) Looking forward to the next segment.
Thank you (again)! You continue to amaze and inspire me!! Sooooooo much to say, but perhaps for another day... Two tips for you: #1. Attach a small drawstring pouch to your ignition key; place your valve stem caps in the pouch whenever you take them off. The pouch will remind you to check for caps when you go to start your rig. #2. Not sure if you've already changed your gearing yet (I may have missed that episode)? If you haven't, you may want to look into it. A lot of people consider re-gearing when going to a larger diameter tier; however, re-gearing will also help with highway speeds even if you keep your current size. Changing the gear ratio (re-gearing) will help your transition to compensate for any extra weight (gas/gear/guests/etc.), while keeping your RPM and gas mileage where it normally is. Liquid is HEAVY,, and a full sub tank can really bog your engine down. Add gear to the roof, a hill and a strong headwind and your transition will struggle/surge when trying to maintain highway speeds. Gearing will help address this.
Great idea on the pouch. But when airing up i need the vehicle to stay on to power the compressor so bit of a hassle to go back to the driver side each tire... ya regear will help. I don’t have it yet but will be considering
Underrated channel to be honest. Content is really good, filmed really well and the voice overs compliment the video so nicely. And it's not just this one, it's very consistent. Well done!
Something about being alone, far from everyone, Such a feeling you can't describe, but gotta embrace the suck that comes with it too! Awesome vlog Monique!! Inspiring !
The weather can change the vibe of any trip. Thanks for sharing this experience. I recently ran into crazy rain camping with the family, and we played a few board games. We stayed dry and made the best of it.
Quick guy line tip, attach a capable carabiner to the end so you can quickly attach it and skip tying knots. If the receiving end is somehow too small to clip a carabiner, attach a key ring, then clip the carabiner to it!
You're amazing and you have great videos. I use to do what you are doing back in the early 90's (I live in Vancouver). It was just called "going off road" back then, no such term as "Overlanding". I then fell into the corporate life, family life, kids, minivan, soccer etc. I've been wanting to get out for years. For now I'm living vicariously through you and your videos. Keep up the great work, and keep up on your travels.
Inspirational. You’ve inspired me to travel the backroads of BC once my ordered truck arrives. Thinking of even filming all of it. A trials and tribulations of a beginner over landing! Lol
About the valve stem cap for your tires. We use short valve stem extensions on big trucks here in the US. You don't need to take them off to put air in or let it out and still keeps dirt and mud out of your valve seals
Haha our cruisers are slow on the road, just got to get used to cruising with the semi trucks. But most will never see the same views or know the same addictive peace and quiet.
Altitute = air intake cfm and gear ratio. Can be tricky but there are a lot of info out there on the subject. Remember gear it so you can off road good but still drive on the highway.
hi! #overlandlady This problem of not reaching a certain speed soon or reaching 120 kph is solved by installing a turbocharger, your toyota admits that possibility, a 300hp one is enough so that you have enough power, without excesses and you can get enough energy to walk at good speed and which will also improve off road performance!
Tie a small ear plugs pouch to your compressor/inflator and put your stem cap in it.... If you forget to put it back on, you'll still have it with your compressor
Hello, I enjoy your videos and spirit of adventure! I am a long time Land Cruiser owner, having many since 1978. My current rig is a 100 series. I use only premium grade fuel, and when available, ethanol-free fuel! I upgraded the suspension to Old Man Emu with a 2" lift. Tires are Yokohama Geolander A/T 285/75R16 (10 ply). I am not sure of your lack of power issue in the mountains. The only time I lost power was when I lost two coil packs and she was only running on 6 cyl. Good luck!
Thank you once again! And thanks for making the point to pick up after oneself! I'm seeing that folks in the states who live in their vehicles or visiting cool sites are almost always cleaning up before they set up their own camp. Thank you once again...beautiful scenery!
gotta give it to you girl, you more into this than some of my guy friends. that's dope. come down to washington and explore with us sometimes?! when the border opens back up of course. stay up, exploring is the best. makes all the down sides worth it when you find new spots!
All your videos have a very special Aura that I haven't seen anywhere else. Not sure if is the narrative, the photography, or all together. I loved your videos and stories so much!
That mosquito was huge! I know what you mean about other travelers leaving their garbage behind. Our recent trip to BLM land we spent 1hr picking up garbage from our site 🤦♂️. It is truly disheartening to see people leave trash behind. Great videos keep them coming btw 👍
I haven't gotten to overlanding yet, but done some hiking. And I described hiking for a friend, hiking is a pain in the crack of which you'll be laughing at afterwards. 😁
new subscriber. I enjoyed your short film about how and why you started. The level of detail in the style of your content doesn't go un-noticed. I look forward to seeing more and best of luck on your channel!

Moniqe, CBC Weather Scientist "cant recall her name" said that the real danger in a fire is wind. Wind carrier fire brands down wind and starts spot fires. She said STAY out of the forest if its in the middle of a severe drought. Also, winds over 30km/h, Tempatures over 30C and Humidity under 30%. These are what causes mega fires in Canada and the United States. I would consider bring a portable fire shelter should you be caught in a forest fire.
Too back end heavy on some inclines. When we were moving to Vancouver we had our 3/4 dodge grand caravan we rented trying to get up a steep part on the Coquihalla and had trouble getting to 60 km then once we were at the top and going down the weight was pushing us and we were going 130 km right towards the rocky wall of a mountain
This life isn't for everyone. Isolation can have positive and negative affect to people. But, I have travelled a lot of the world, often to some remote locations, and the most memorable is sitting alone with only the sound of the wind overlooking a frozen ocean where there are no animals and no sounds of human life. This was a great video and almost suspenseful to find out what happens in the end. It was like petting a dog, I think my heart rate and blood pressure dropped.
If you ask me ,it doesn't matter how good the scenery is if your lonely you can still feel a bit down ,find yourself someone nice to share your life with you sweet thing
I have the opportunity to purchase a home and go into debt. Screw that! I'm getting another 4runner! Living out of your vehicle is a very rewarding experience, including financial rebalance.
With you saying that the Landi struggles to get up to speed, have you looked into getting it tuned/ chipped/remapped. I'd stab at a guess and say that it was initially optimized for Ozzy conditions, but not Canadian ones...I say this as there are differences between Ozzy conditions and NZ ones, which one would think are a somewhat similar

I am taking a plunge into this lifestyle in a few months; have to get alway from the city and business life. My only experience was boon docking in a Class B RV last summer. While I enjoyed it, the rig had no off-road capabilities. I’ve decided to go with 4Runner TRD Pro. Can’t wait for my truck’s delivery so I can start my build. Was (trying to catch up 😁) watching your previous videos, your Australian adventures brought back fond memories when I live there many many years ago as an intern. Nice drone shot. Hopefully you're in a better mood meanwhile 😊. Please tell me, which folding chair you love the best? Think you tried out a lot of them... 😅 Best wishes from Germany!
The Kings from Australia is my stable because it's thicker and comfy. Loved the Kuma heated chair but it packs down too big and don't need the heating function in warm weather now. However for sitting and writing, ARB director chair is best because of its flat bottom. Normal camp chair is comfortable when leaning back because it sags but not for leaning over to reach a table.
2:00 have you regeared already? 7:20 *sigh* this is one of those times that a 70 series troopy w/ an alu cab hercules top would be kinda nice. :P but then there'd be a lot less rooftop storage. 11:30 I was thinking about using wipes, and I did it for a while, but then I just didn't like that the wipes weren't reusable. Feel your pain with the wind had my old R50 Pathfinder rock pretty good a couple of times up on Chilko lake. The wind shifted and the side rather than the front. Garbage sucks, I clean up every site I am at, if there is garbage. But at the end of a long day hitting the site you planned on with a bunch junk scattered around tends to take you down a notch. I stop, setup, eat and then clean up the site. I find the act of leaving things better for the next guy lifts my spirits a bit. I have enjoyed your channel so far.
Amazing beautiful scenic video and all the instructions with the real reality!
Great video Monique
