    This was one of the first professional grade paints I ever bought, and set the bar pretty high for everything to come after. Over the years I've continued to be impressed with their vibrancy, high pigment load, lack of flow (like similar Asian watercolors such as Holbein and Shinhan, these stay just where you want them, great for those who like predictable paints!) and easy re-wet. I have them dry in a travel palette, and over the course of 5 years have used it again and again. They always re-wet like new with a touch of a damp brush! Glad to see them getting some love

    • @show._bug
      @show._bug 3 роки тому

      hello, i saw you mentioned something about shinhan and i’ve been looking for information on them everywhere! I really love how bright they are, but i cant tell if their artist grade line is good or bad, it seems to vary from person to person. Would you recommend shinhan pwc?

    • @KimberlyCrick
      @KimberlyCrick 3 роки тому +2

      @@show._bug Shinhan PWC is a very nice paint, it has similar performance and mixtures to Holbein (offering a lot of convenience colors and "pastels" made from too many different ingredients). The main issue I have with Shinhan is that they tend to use fugitive pigments more often than other brands. If lightfastness is a concern for you, their big assortment sets tend to have about a third of them fade, but this can be better avoided by learning which pigments to collect individual tubes of.

    • @snulsim7245
      @snulsim7245 3 роки тому +1

      hey.. I'd love to get this as my first ever professional grade watercolor. I live in Asia and I'm not very fortunate, so Asian brands like Mijello, ShinHan, and Holbein are a blessing. I absolutely think that Mijello may be the perfect brand for me as it is vibrant, a good deal, and pure pigmented. Though, there is one thing I'm concerned about; that's the flow. I'm afraid if it wouldn't flow at all. What if I might grow to dislike it? It worries and pains me. What do you suggest? Should I get that particular set or get another brand?

    • @KimberlyCrick
      @KimberlyCrick 3 роки тому +9

      @@snulsim7245 Odds are you may find that you enjoy the extra control. There are certain paints that have too much flow (Qor especially, as well as certain fine particle pigments in brands like Rosa Gallery or Roman Szmal) and can ruin your wash or ability to make smooth gradients with how much the color travels across water. On the bright side, if the lack of flow ever bothers you, there is a simple fix! Ox gall and other watercolor mediums are available in a bottle, which can just be put on your palette and mixed into your paint to increase flow. You would never have to waste paint, even if you want more flow eventually. Happy painting :)

    I just bought a set of Mission Gold and I’m in love! I have a few other watercolors that I thought were ok, but these are the best I’ve used so far. The colors are vibrant, brilliant, just amazingly beautiful and the blending is so subtle and rich. What I also like is that when you lay color on paper, it stays where you put it. The blooming and wild spreading of other watercolors really bothered me sometimes because I’m a control freak. These paints may not be for everyone, because they are different from others. But I adore them in every way. Now to find some great cold press paper! Let me know if you have a video on ones that work well with the Mission Gold or if you do one in the future. Thanks for this video - really enjoyed it!

      I have their Perfect Sketchbook and the cheaper one with the lighter weight paper, and I can't really tell the difference. They both have a kind of dry, powdery feel, but the texture is nice to paint on and they take loads of water and working. I've just ordered some more because when you compare the cost to other brands they are pretty good value (free shipping too)

    This set is my first professional watercolour set that i bought with my own hard earned money and I'm still so in love! I definitely had to get used to how little paint I have to use because they're soooo pigmented that a little goes a long way! Also these remain juicy for months and I believe that they'll remain that way for years too. I don't even need to spray them to reactivate the paint because they're so nice and juicy.

    Mijello was the paint I picked when going back to traditional art, this was from doing digital for 15 years! I have since found DaVinci paints, a California-based company that makes professional quality paints at ridiculously low prices, almost student prices! They have several premade palettes as well as an extensive range of paints to select from, if you already have favorites! Need more? Denise over on In Liquid Color has some videos.

      Personally you just have to power through it. Maybe take a step back and objectively look at what you have and what things you can do to fix certain problems. Maybe pick up another medium like gouache or pencils to complete or fix the piece. Just remember the ugly stage is a just a stage and will pass if you continue.

      start using acrylics. seriously. I painted with watercolors for years and got frustrated with my colors turning muddy. Since using acrylics I no longer have to worry about re-activating layers of dried color or my paintings turning dull because acrylics dry permanently. Try Golden High Flow acrylics, the pigments are extremely strong. You can water them down and use it just like watercolors.

    • @kaylaglazz
      @kaylaglazz 4 роки тому +4

      @@popesuavecitoxii2379 I don't like them. I don't like painting with them. I don't like the style of art they create or how much more it takes to create. canvas, brushes, mediums, dry time. I can watercolor anywhere easily. I also have really expencive paint so the colors are more predictable to mix. I just have to get used to waiting and learning to keep it dry.

    Hi Arleesha, I missed you so much I rewatched your mushroom video just yesterday! Glad you had a lovely break, we all need some down time to restore the spirit. It's interesting what you said about the paper and you can definitely see your point in the finished work, which to my eye, lacks the sense of energy that your work usually has. Not that it isn't nice work, it is, it's just missing those wild and serendipitous flourishes that you create so well.

    I was really interested to hear you aren't keen on the Stonehenge watercolour paper. I bought a block a while back but I've only used it once because there was just something about it I didn't get on with. I'm pretty much a beginner so thought it was probably just me, though I've used Windsor & Newton and Fabriano Aquarelle 100% cotton papers and those seemed to react much better.

Too bad about the Legion paper. Does this mean that it doesn't absorb the pigment enough so that with a glaze the underlayer reacts again?

      Yes this is a high-end professional watercolor set but like the comment above if you want something a little bit more cost-effective but still professional grade you should try looking at da Vinci‘s watercolor sets.

      You can get the mission gold set of 36, 7ml tubes that comes with a palette on Amazon for $65.00. Fourteen of them are single pigment. The rest are two or more pigment mixes , which are still vibrant, beautiful, and professional grade. This brand has very good lightfastness too. There are tons of reviews on UA-cam. This set of 34, 15ml single pigments she is showing here is the most expensive set Mission Gold makes, they're very lovely, but not necessary to make beautiful high end work.

    Los pigmentos que se ocupan menos son mas espesos...los otros con mas liquido.

    I saw your paints beading up in your palette, this happened to me too..Do you find it annoying? How do you deal with it?
