My local art club had a garage sale last summer to help pay rent...and I managed to purchase a set of 11 beam paint stones for $6 total! They are amazing. Because they were donated and stored in a cheap plastic container...no one knew what they were and priced them at $1. Crazy but I offered them more because I saw the beam wax cloth wrappers and knew what these were actually worth. Thanks for sharing!
Haven't watched one of her videos in a while and I just sat down to do some schoolwork as she started painting, and was so astounded at how well everything came together and how beautiful it was. Hands down my favorite artist.
Thank you for being a constant source of calm and inspiration. Gorgeous portrait as always, I've been watching your older videos recently and it's incredible to see how your process has evolved. Thank you for sharing your process with us!
I'm so in love with this painting OH MY GOD I stared at the thumbnail in the notification thingy for a couple minutes before actually opening the vid. Your paintings have so much emotion, and it's so clear for me, and so striking! And the way you paint is also so beautiful, I can't describe. Thank you so much for your work and your videos! You always make me stand up and go paint something.
Ohh I've heard of these paints!! They're packaged so beautifully. Your portrait turned out amazing. I swear, your ability to choose and mix harmonious colors is a superpower 😂💪🏽
I have been obsessed with these paints for years now! I want to own ALL of the colours-I’m working on it I have so so many of them already. I love them so much!😍
I always come back to this video! You're the one who introduced me to Beam and I'm so happy to try them out, and I just love the gouache and watercolor hybrid process. It's so inspiring and I wanna try stuff out like this for sure! I want to get their gouache birch spectrum!!❤
That's funny about the preciousness of keeping things pristine, I've always had the opposite feeling about my watercolors. A well loved pallette to me looks like a mess, I love things to look used. Also makes it easier to make grays and neutrals when there is paint everywhere 😂
Haha yeah one of the main reasons I settled on watercolours as my main medium is how messy I can get without worrying about destroying the things around me. And I love the pretty chaos of a well used palette.
I used to hate gouache but now I love it, I recommend getting the himi gelly for practice as it won't break the bank and then invest in Holbein if you love it :)
I love her products! and i am lucky to live in ontario.. not that far away from her. only have two palettes so far but oh some of the newest deeper colours are so rich.. ty for your videos, when i am having a tough day, i come here and feel light and happy watching you paint.. ty so much
If I believe you used a reference picture of Hunter Schafer for your sketch. If that’s the case I’m in love with her and I love your interpretation of her in your lovely style. Well done!!
I discovered you when I began watercoloring four months ago and absolutely adore you!! Thank you for your continued and constant encouragement and willingness to share!
Beautiful! I just got one of Beam's travel cases with watercolors and I use watercolor as a base for my work, then build with gouache as well. I love how you worked with the planes of the face, gorgeous work!
Beautiful portrait!! Wow! I have the Spectrum 11 set (though not in the birch palette; I just got mine in waxed linen), it's so much fun to use. I love how it smells, too!
More than the paint, I loved your talk trough and way of thinking overall, making something like paint so alive and inspiring made me think too and I think letting go of thing sometime and loving imperfections to make them shine is really beautiful. You got yourself a new sub from France ❤️🇫🇷
Love it 😍 I would like to try to do a similar portrait and choose some similar colors to follow this painting you did. I love how you combined the watercolors and the gouache.
Thank you for this video. As an artist I love different suppliers but I've been wanting to find paints from home (canada) but turns out these are from my back yard in the Sudbury district in Canada. From the manatulian island. Thank you I'm going out today to paint with my home!
Such perfect timing. I was just messaging Anong about making my next order! Even though I would say I'm pretty well versed in all things Beam... any video from you brightens my whole day!
Got so excited when I saw this! I recently tried one of their Mother Earth palettes and loved it. The wood packaging is all the cottage core vibes I need in my life 😂🤌
Those swatches 😍😍😍 I love this company. I live about half an hour away from them on the same island. I've always wanted to buy every single one of their paints.
Sometimes when something is very expensive, people have a hard time acknowledging that it's not very good. These paints don't look good, at all, but luckily for us your artwork is still beautiful despite that.
The final painting is so lovely, I'm interested in learning how to do looser portraits. I know you've done Skillshare classes, would one of them happen to be about that?
I'm not Arlene, but try using a brush that's bigger than what you're comfortable with! It will force you to focus on shapes and values and won't let you focus on detail
I would'nt worry about the paint bleeding out onto the wooden palette...I might actually look really nice !.. Nothing looks nicer than a well used / loved palette.
@arleebean --I went through and watched your color theory video today. I have been trying to figure out how you paint your rainbow skin and have heard you mention it before. I have an... interesting question. What do you wipe your brushes on?? I have been using paper towels but I have a feeling that the rough texture is ruining my brushes.
Hi, I had a question about handmade watercolours, ive been following your videos to make the binder and for making my own watercolours. The problem im facing is after the watercolours dry they become very rigid and are difficult to re wet. at first i thought it was my binder so i made another batch which was better than the first and i was confident it would work but the same thing happened. should i add more honey or can you suggest anything? im really clueless. but i wanted to say thank youu, i learn a lot from youuu :)
I wonder if the naturalism of the materials you were using influenced your painting in other ways, because I found that face more natural-looking than your usual portraits in terms of the proportions. Plus of course, the more muted, pastel colours - though of course the shades you used aren't that natural for skin in real life! Whatever, this was, as always, a joy to watch. I am now resisting ordering Beam paints. I do not need more paint. I do not need more paint...😂
@Ana J a big chunk of wood for just one palette? Idk what needs to be explained here. They could have, at least, make wells close to each other or make traditional layout, so that there would be more palettes from the same amount of wood.
As far as I know, all the wood used for these palettes is offcuts from a sustainable Indigenous lumber business on Manitoulin island where these paints are made, so if anything these wooden palettes are eliminating waste. Also when you think about it, the resources that go into a plastic or metal palettes, a simple piece of wood is a lot less demanding of resources. If you’re curious about the sustainability of Beam Paints, you should absolutely check out their website!
a wooden container???? that wood will absorb some of the water you put into the pigment!!!! that's a no for me... besides the amount of paint seems to me very little.... on the website the price is $50 usdl is way to expensive!!!! that ratio is not even a traditional half pan.... not interested at all
I think theses paints and container seem a little gimmicky. They look muddy and dull and the container will soak up the water and paints and get worse and worse with time. Don't like it
Gosh Arlene, your portrait style is evolving in lightning speed. I’m in awe and always inspired by you

Wow I love this. The items are so unique! Absolutely love it
I've been really enjoying mixed media with a focus on Watercolour and gouache lately too. Fun stuff, beautiful presentation.
I feel like this painting is another level in your painting, I LOVE IT... the colours are so harmonious and you make it look literally effortless!
If I believe you used a reference picture of Hunter Schafer for your sketch. If that’s the case I’m in love with her and I love your interpretation of her in your lovely style. Well done!!

This is a cinematic masterpiece
for a second I tought you'd announce you selling your handmade paints and I was ready to go and buy some!
That's what I thought too. I thought the paints were called "Beani" which I thought was a cute name, then realised it said "Beam".
I started a new course and named arlesha as one of my greatest influence. It’s becauSe of you I have my first exhibition xxx thank you

Wow
The palette itself feels like such a waste.
The painting is just *chef’s kiss*
yeah i thought so too, like this is a chunk of wood per order. I can imagine chopping a tree for about 25 of thoses
