TVY7-FV. That’s the rating of Power Rangers, and has been since the beginning.
It put them in this gray area, as TV-Y7 is meant for 7 year olds and up with shows like Spongebob Squarepants and Phineas and Ferb. But it got that flavor of FV, Fantasy Violenxe, which yeah you’re on the nose.
In order to get this rating, Power Rangers has had to do a lot of censoring to make this more kid-friendly in the USA, and hit the peak that it did, capturing the imaginations of millions of kids worldwide. Since Power Rangers was adapted from a Japanese series called Super Sentai, they had to make it more openly acceptable to american audiences, which as you see later in this video, the Japanese do things differently...

which, with how much samurai takes 1:1 from shinkenger, the plot point of the samurai bloodline above all else, one would think that they had some unified reasoning in the studio...
I think the card containment in SPD was actually a pretty good addition. I like the idea of a special police force that instead of executing, simply captures them.

Agreed. And when it came to that episode of a shapeshifter looking like previous enemies, they looked into the containment cards to see if their enemies were still trapped and not on the loose.

I agree considering that the monsters on that season are technically just criminals it would have been pretty fucked up to just kill them

Some of the biggest censorship I can think of is the blue ranger from timeforce not having a fatal disease like in timeranger. Also in time force not having the quantum ranger die like the timefire ranger did.
I'd describe that more of a plot change rather than censorship, but I see the point you're making. I think having a terminally ill person in a kids show could actually be pretty educational for kids on the topics death and sickness-which some kids have to experience at a younge age.

i disagree, just killing off the characters doesn't really elevate the show at all, specially since in Eric's case it gave him a more satisfactory concluson to his character, Tommy too in mighty moprhin instead of just dying he became the most legendary ranger ever.
i do think however that Lost galaxy did it really well since Kendrix "death" lead to Astronema becoming a ranger
These are not censorship. For Lucas it's just a plot change and for Eric it's a result of better character development
For the body swap stuff, my thought is Billy would absolutely respect Kimberly’s body and not look after the swap. But Jake would immediate look at his new Gia body when they swap XD
He probably would have in the first 10 or so episodes. But in Super Mega Force, I really don't think Jake would have. Gia (in Jake's body) probably would have spent the whole day with him, with JAke(in Gia's body) telling people it's a date so she has to constantly correct him.
During PMC, Ciara Hanna mentioned that the body swap episode was actually changed because Azim and John were better at mimicking other people, so the producers changed it

They also did this so it was the Green Ranger who built the Super Mega Cannon (since in Gokaiger, Green was the geeky one instead of Blue). They mixed both episodes - the body swap episode and the cannon's debut - into a single one.

Yeah they had a girl-boy body swap in Dino Fury (Zayto/Amelia) and I'm fairly sure Dino Charge (Tyler/Shelby) too, which was right after Megaforce, so I doubt the gender swapping was really the issue.
If they did it before Megaforce and they did it after Megaforce, chances are there was actually other reasons why they changed it in Megaforce. Nothing to do with censorship.
When the Green Ranger first fights the other rangers, you can see him slap Kimberly, but Saban removed the slap sound effect.
I think it’s the same fight, but he also catches a kick from Zack on his shoulder, punches him in the groin and when Zack doubles over he uppercuts him into a backflip.
It is a blink and you’d miss it but they censored it in the Power Rangers show
I think they also censored when Burai threw Tryano Rangers Sword and it damaged his suit.
Fun fact : in the French version of Samurai the Folding Zords are called "Zord Origami".

9/11 is what probably stopped Power Rangers from being shown in Australia in the early 2000's Wild Force, Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder weren't shown in Australia on Channel seven, Time Force was only shown after Midnight. Mystic Force was the first full Disney era season.
It’s funny how the parents reacted to the kids punching and kicking. Power rangers would’ve done much better with violence in the modern era. Violence is more widely accepted nowadays.
🎉🎉I think power rangers would’ve done better if they took more elements from Super Senti & mixed it with their American adaption. Instead of changing the whole overall idea of the ranger team. There would have been less plot wholes and they could’ve been more creative (instead of only using super senti footage). Also change up the dialogue.
It would’ve been cooler if the mighty morphing rangers were more heavily linked with their individual dinosaur. What we got was felt like was Teenagers forced to be soldiers. Soldiers with Dino zords & “attitude”.
If those parents thought Power Rangers was violent they would have a heart attack at all the blood and crotch shots in Super Sentai.

@@GGX120 yah but they have to go one way or another. You can’t copy a Marvel films fight scenes ,change the story, and call it Super Universe. They need to make the choice between the two. Instead of half & half. That just creates plot holes. Either a complete adaption with censors or total creativity. Either copy or make ur own. Don’t steal another persons ideas and change them for an American audience.
Imagine if Japan took footage from avengers and made it into teenagers that turn into heroes. Completely removing the character and stealing the hulk’s appearance.
Also I do think 2/10 times they get the show right with half & half but 8/10 the seasons will flop. I don’t hate power rangers it just could be better.
Unlike the american version of Power rangers,some characters of Super sentai had some of their helmets cracked during fighting scenes and Blood was shown how badly the characters were, and they could have some kids under the age of 12 and up if it wasn't edited🩸🩸.

I'm pretty sure the body swapping for The Grass is Greener...or Bluer was partly thanks to Sentai footage for the new finishing weapon cause Gokai Blue was in the fight, but he was the brains in Power Rangers; I say this cause 2 years ago, the Dino Fury Rangers swapped bodies & I remember Zayto & Amelia swapped. With Origami, in Japan, they were "Folding Gods" when translated into English, so it's not like they were just changing it cause the art of origami is Japanese entirely
I really love Power Rangers ever since I was a kid. Now that I think about it though, they made Power Ranger too kid friendly. Now I mostly enjoy Super Sentai and other Tokusatsu stuff since they're much better at balancing the kid friendly stuff and the more mature themes. I especially like that they're not afraid to kill off characters especially in Kamen Rider... although most of the times they just bring them back on the next episode, lol.
while showa and the first half of heisei were really not shy on casualties, even when there really wasn't any real need. while it's true that many season really should stick to keep the deceased in line, I do agree
🎉 I hear ya. I watch super sentai subs more often than power rangers. In my opinion it’s much more interesting interesting and entertaining. Full of great content that actually makes sense & flows easily.

The Censorship for Starninger is the Most egregious one. Ninninger literally Gave us the Most American Ranger in all of Sentai including Miss America from Battle Fever J

I grew up watching Time Force onward, I'm a new fan of the older seasons, so i love being able to watch these kinda videos and know what the fandom is talking about!
Perhaps the notable opposite is the "death" in Power Rangers when the pink Lost Galaxy Ranger Kendrix "died" by sacrificing herself (in real life, Valerie Vernon had to leave to receive treatment from Leukemia) but "returned to life" later. (While in Gingaman, the Pink Sentai Ranger never died)

I love it how this is about censorship in power rangers and the thumbnail is from two things that will NEVER be adapted because one is officially unofficial and therefore is to be ignored, and the other is trains.
Maybe that’s why Hasbro wants to reboot the franchise.
More accurate adaptations of the Sentai seasons would be wild!
Or making their own Power Rangers seasons that isn't from the Sentai would be great.

We can tell it was Saban's fault that made some stupid changes after the company bought the rights back from Disney and it nearly ruined the reputation of the PR franchise.
@@tiendang4440 I have no clue, it’s like, they were fine beforehand?? All they had to do was keep up the good storytelling of the Disney Era, but nah, Neo Saban only dropped one banger in Dino Charge, and everything else was meh.
For the the Super Megaforce episode "The Grass is Always Greener... or Bluer", it could have worked to stick with the Super Sentai counterpart of having the Green and Yellow Rangers switching bodies since Jake and Gia did have feelings for each other. I know the purpose of body switching episodes on TV shows and movies is so people who are in arguments to learn from their mistakes which is why they had Jake and Noah switch. But it could have been interesting for Jake and Gia to switch though. Or perhaps Emma and Gia.

I think the SMF body swap was because Saban wanted to use footage of Gokai Green with the Gokai cannon. In the orginal show Doc was the inventor. Dino Super Charge 2 years later had Tyler and Kimberly swap bodies so the body swap change wasn't due to censorship.
It's almost hilarious how PR Samurai is going as far as to edit license plates, while I just watched an episode of Dragon Knight that had both English, Japanese, and Mirror-World reversed-Japanese in the same one-minute segment
I think the Directors of certain Power rangers had edit some of those scenes, because many of the scenes where either too inappropriate or probably some very intense scenes that can scare the kids of parents📺📺.
My favourite censorship moment is based on Engine Sentai Go-Onger and Power Rangers RPM. In Go-Onger, Land Pollution Minister Yogostein shoots a gear into Go On Red’s chest which causes him to collapse and become encased in a rust statue, you see at some points his spirit in some form of purgatory almost crossing over to the other side but fights it and returns to life to defeat Yogostein.
In RPM, General Shifter shoots a gear into Scott’s chest, but it ends up becoming a device that allows shifter to control Scott’s body with his mind still in tack trying to fight it.

Netflix has officially confirmed that they're doing the reboot after cosmic fury. And will no longer adapt the sentai. But I'm sure you probably already Kew that.
That means we get to see Lord Drakkon.

I really hate to say this but Power Rangers won't be the same without the Super Sentai element.
Oh I know because it basically had 2/3 of the show done for them. They just needed English speaking actors and a slight script change.
However, that doesn't mean that certain villains or ranger suits won't be used in future seasons, as there's still a use for them. They just won't be as common since the reboot wants to be 100% original, I just hope the show doesn't suffer because of it. I've always loved this franchise. (As a side-note, I doubt that games like Legacy Wars or Morphin" Legends will be affected by this, as the previous seasons can still be represented. It's possible that the reboot will be added to the roster, so no worries in regards to that.)
I believe censorship has to come from either the studio and/or the station airing the show. They do not want their stations censor group to say, "your show is too sexy for children" or "It is to violent and it will be banned from being aired." And remember the more monsters they aired the more they can sell as action figures.
Remember it all about the money. (The actors in the orginal power rangers were not union and were paid peanuts for their performance.) Not sure if all Power Ranger Actors were Union or non-union. Saban made millions and toy companies made many millions of dollars in toy sales and the workers were able to barely buy groceries to feed themselves.
MMPR also censored Zyuranger's Bandora sacrificing children to summon Dai Satan...
It is weird how they don't allow kissing anymore. There's nothing wrong with kissing. I mean, French kissing obviously is a no for kid shows. But regular kissing is totally fine. Other kid shows have it. Why not Power Rangers? Another time that kissing deserved to be seen on the show was In Space by Andros and Ashley at the end of the final episode when they were both hugging after Andros decided to go back to Earth. Without a kiss, it just feels not complete. Even the people that played Andros and Ashley agreed that their characters deserved a kiss scene and didn't like how they weren't allowed.
How did nobody mention in Lost Galaxy, where Barbarax was clearly EATEN by Grunchor in the footage, but teleported away instead (you can even see his body in Grunchor's mouth)?!?

In one episode of Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, Go Volcanic, this episode was skipped in the UK by Fox Kids, due to the appearance of a realistic firearm. The episode did air on GMTV, though.

There are some scenes in Time Force in that 3 parted episode of Dawn of Destiny and some of the scenes are censored too. But the original version was still in the DVD.
In Samurai/Shinkenger in the flashback they cut the Green and Blue's deaths with only yellow and pink and the red because one got arrowed to death and the other got impaled by a sword of the Moogers/Nanashi and was deemed violent.
At around 6:10 the sound effects used for the clip had dying of laughter. Also I find it funny how you used the clip of ToQ Oh in that episode of Ressha Sentai ToQger. That Super Sentai series most likely isn’t getting adapted into PR is mainly because trains aren’t that popular in the US.
With the Power Rangers Samurai/Samurai Sentai Shinkenjer censors (and I'm trying not to let my nostalgia cloud my judgment), at least the name censors make sense.

The fourth episode of PR Turbo begins with a same-sex wedding between Elgar and the monster of the week. The script is *never* explicit about it, but it's very obvious, and even more gay/LGBT subtext in the episode--the "detonator" (more censorship) is triggered when multicolored paint forms a "rainbow of colors". When the monster's destroyed, the bad guys are depressed as if they're in mourning, but again, they don't voice why.

i can not remember how many times i have seen in just the first season of Kamen Rider alone. they backed off a lot since. i have just started watching Goranger so i do not know how much it will be in that season.
it is a good and scenic method to have a hero in a light torture position, while easy to cheat by the troupe for the shootings.
if it wasn't for a specifically overbearing cult claiming dibs on it, it would be much more present in anything that isn't "palestine years minus-10-to-50" and "the romans invaded here"
Fun fact, the Symbol power wasn't really a change.
The term in Shinkenger was Mojikara- Kara being from Chikara or power, and Moji, well guess what E Moji or electronic symbol.
So while the symbols in question were indeed Kanji, the term Mojikara was used to refer to the Magic of the symbols essentially. They used Symbol power to cause stuff like Horse to summon well a horse. So that was a direc translation rather han a censorship thing.

I believe "kill" was used in the O&A special because the target demographic was older.

I remember seeing the episode of engine sentai go onger where the red ranger dies a few minutes after being hit by a bolt shot by a monster which rusted the red ranger basically killing him. Obviously they couldn't have that so instead they had scott be controlled by the bolt

That was my favorite era of power rangers when they stuck closer to Sentai scripts and were darker.
Super Sentai is made for Kids to watch with their parents. This let's the show include scenes that parents who at one time were children who probably also saw the show see aspects of the they loved as kids.
In English speaking countries parents expect Power Rangers to be a babysitter. Just some show they could dropped the kids in front of for a bit and expect them to not show scenes that might require Guidance as the in the "G" in PG or the equivalence of TV-Y7.
it was not until the latter half of the 1990s that television got a rating system. i remember when it first came in and how every kids show had a rating PSA prior to the show. after a couple years or so they dropped that PSA as kids and parents got to it. the F,V,S,etc. was add after a year or to shows both children's programming and adults to give more specifics as the "Citizens Council" made mostly educational bureaucrats dictated. many of these same people lead to the collapse of Saturday Morning Cartoons on network television. "Citizens Council" was also responsible for the collapse of entertaining educational programming as well. when you look at some of the shows kids ad in the early 1990s and before you are like compared to the early 2000s iGens do not know what they missed in educational programming.

I have a friend that actually was a Ranger actor( not disclosing who), but he has revealed that he and other male rangers had to wear different stuff under their spandex, just to keep the “Power Saber” from showing. They have used Jock straps, Dance Belts, and Under Amour, anything to mask the “Power Saber”. #esquad

I brought up the scene in Mighty Morphin where Tommy transfers his shield to Jason during a mission, clearly Japanese footage. What I didn't know was the Japanese footage had the Red & Green Rangers as brothers as opposed to teammates learning to team.
Barza was throwing grenades at a kid to keep the kid from opening Burai’s vault.
Personally I don't mind the change of the sushi Morpher thingy, I remember seeing it in a comparison video and thinking it was way too goofy, same with the burger morpher
That's show how cultural differences could be a problem, hence why power ranger samurai one of the worst season.
Half of those are censorships, the other half just feels like different story beats. Power Rangers uses footage of sentai, but it usually doesn't use the sentai for story inspirations. Different stories being told isn't censorship. xD
The Beast Morphers thing.. what's funny is since blue fire is actually hotter than orange fire.. the "censorship" makes the fire technically more dangerous lol
Samurai... there has got to be some irony in how they adapted one of the most Japanese entrenched Sentai yet removed lots of Japanese significant things.. like if they at least had some explanation of some of the stuff it would have been a cool teaching moment, imagine kids actually appreciating another culture by actually knowing a bit about it from one of their favorite shows... others shows did that why couldn't Power Rangers?

You want a prime example of censored Sentai adapted into Power Rangers, try Episode 36 of Gekiranger.
You've got the violence as you might expect, but there's also a perverted elephant man called Elehung (nani?!?) who gets touchy-feely with a trio of female thieves, excessive consumption of alcohol (leading to the use of drunken fist style Kung Fu), and one of the thieves trying to distract an excited Elehung by giving him a look up her skirt.
You know, for kids!
For super megaforce it was probably plot reasons since gokai green is the engineer and not gokai blue

I remembered in Dekaranger they used actually pistol guns.
They did the whole girl in a boy's body and vice-versa way back in MMPR Season 1 with Kimberly and Billy, so apparently it was only okay in 1993
The actors for Noah and Jake just impersonated the other cast members a lot and the producers thought it would be better with them instead. One of the few instances in SMF of the producers doing a good change.
@@lithosagymfan Dude, that's not it at all. I've seen Ciara, Azim, and John all mention how Azim and John would impersonate each other all the time for the first season while filming.
It's on public record that the producers changed the episode because those two actors had spent a whole year basically rehearsing for the body swap episode.
A few examples of censorship I’d like to bring up is the toning down of the things the mutants did in Time Force compared to Timeranger. In Timeranger we had the monsters hired as hitmen, setting up illegal underground casino, murdering hospital patients, and seducing the male rangers to name a few. When Time Force came over, they were toned to down or straight out replaced by something else. Like the underground casino plot being changed into the monster holding a bus of children as hostage or the monster seducing the rangers being altered into the monster using a spell to brainwash the rangers.

I grew up watching Power Ranger. I know a lot of the Western parents were upset at the amount of violence. I started watching Super Sendai and I realized that they censored a lot. Especially, Zyuranger and Dairanger. Rita’s Sentai counterpart was kid-hating witch who kidnapped children for the sake of sacrificing them to the floating head guy. The introduction of Tommy’s white ranger counter was 12 year old pervert. And Elgar’s counterpart was a pervert too. Although, mind you, Elgar was as dumb as doorknob. His counterpart was basically the leader. The one thing that I liked about Super Sentai is that they weren’t afraid to talk broach the subject of sickness and death. Because they know that it’s a part of life.
