My mom suffered from hypoxia and brain injury, she has been in the ICU for 37d now, she barely responds to commands and barely recognise her surroundings and people around her, she cannot speak and barely controlling body movements. the doctors say her condition will last long (months-years) and unknown when will she recover or even be able to leave the ICU. She barely gives emotional face expressions like happiness sadness and pain, when we are around (her family) she seems to be smiling and happily moving her head, we will never leave her side or give up on her. I could say this event has been the worst and toughest experience in my life, she always been a very lovely and admirable person for everyone, all of a sudden she’s gone. Though We’re having faith and patience and praying for her to hopefully recover soon ♥️

I am a survivor, I was crushed/run over, the trucks tire went from chin to my hips, lungs collapsed, filled with blood due to shards of bone puncturing them. It was on a rural farm, so it took over 25 minutes for paramedics to arrive. I was not Breathing, i was taken to a trama hospital in dallas, put into a coma, was declared brain dead, TBI, my family was called in as I wasn’t expected to live, days passed, and I started to show brain activity... 4 weeks later, they took out vent, put in a tracheotomy and I began to breathe.... three weeks later I began to learn how to swallow, stand, walk, eat, go to the bathroom, etc again. I am, according to my doctors, a miracle, I want you all to know that God saves, don’t give up on your loved one, pray, and never lose hope....love and prayers to those going through this..

My husband had kidney and liver failure and he lost all motor skills from that and he had a significant amount of saliva in mouth and was suffocating on the saliva and stopped breathing for about 15 minutes our friend did cpr compressions on him till the emts came and revived him. And it's been a week since the incident happened and he's awake. He has a tube in his throat and on dialysis but he remembers his mom and me and his daughter and knows that I'm pregnant. Ten years after an unattended heart attack, no oxygen for 20 to 30 minutes . I could not articulate nor remember anyone's names including my family . I did not think of hygiene for months(I lived alone in a new town with few acquaintances). It seemed to have killed everything but my body .
The first four years I wished for death but after that , things began to change . Now Ten years have passed and most physical attributes have returned . Deficits still ; comprehension of written materials , senses of taste , Hunger and fullness , smell and pain with the latter being most amazing and terrifying . Speech was poor and devoid of eloquence , most disturbing when answering doctors "where does it hurt" questions ! Small motor skills on my left side was unnerving and saw me dropping "tightly gripped" items often . When walking , I seemed to only turn left . For two years i kept biteing the inside of my left cheek ... still have the scars . A certain OCD crept in to my life .. I use only colored plastic hangers and was befuddled if I hadn't the right matching color to match the garment . I love my morning coffee but found myself pouring barbecue sauce as a creamer or possibly a sweetener over and over for months waisting pots of my morning goodness .
Eating is now for texture and visual plesantry , I remember my favorite foods and what they taste like . I must eat by a schedule to remember when to eat (or that I've already eaten) . Short term memory is a struggle and organizational skills are truly nonexistent .
I had worked with Stroke patients and kept reminding myself of how wonderfully plastic the brain is .
Note ; the ONLY "help" I had was from my librarian who showed me how to use my computer and got me started with on-line brain exercises .

My brother attempted to take his own life yesterday morning. We do not precisely know just how long his brain was deprived of oxygen. But, our best guess was that it was very brief. I do know that with oxygen deprivation, time is of the essence. Right now, my brother's body is being cooled. And once his body temperature is brought back to normal level, they will attempt to decrease the sedation. My anxiety is high because I am deeply worried and scared. But, I do feel that we have a superb team of docs and nurses caring for him. Because of Covid-19, I can't be in there near what I would prefer to be. I just want to get through these next few days. And, then we will have a better understanding of what is the next steps. I feel so heartbroken right now as well. But, I am pushing forward because I need to be there for my brother and advocate for him.

After three days we pulled her off life support it was the hardest thing to do but after three days sitting beside her and knowing how she thinks i hope we made the right decision. Apparently her injury was global, her lungs where that fragile from years of illness.
So on Thursday 7th march we as a family pulled life support, she passed away 8hours later 00.03 march 8th. We buried her yesterday 12th march and our world has been tore apart.

My mother was admitted to the ICU november 29 of 2017 with pneumonia, she got sedated and needed a ventilator working with 100% oxygen. As she was not responding to medications quickly enough, they started proning her to improve her lungs and it worked until they got her to 50 or 60% oxygen on the ventilator, not really sure how much. Then, because of this proning procedure, she had a cardiac arrest on december 1st, the doctor on site says it lasted less than 4 minutes and was assisted at all times. They got her off all sedations completely on december 25, after weaning it off for a little longer than a week. She would open her eyes and move them but would not focus, she would sometimes move her legs and feet too. A few weeks later, she was cured from her illness and was able to breathe on her own, but still using the trach and with little neurological improvements. She was realeased from the ICU last week, January 16. Since then, we saw her biggest neurological improvements, she will now focus on people talking or moving around the room and on the TV, will blink when asked to and she is also moving her arms and legs quite frequently. Still we are very confused about her neurological prognosis, most doctors are either negative or as vague as possible. We still hope there is some sedative running on her body as she sleeps most of the day. During her time on ICU, she took medications for everything (they never knew what got to her). On your website I have read that cardiac arrest, kidney failure, ARDS, septic shock and using 2 different sedatives at the same time could delay waking up, she had all of this. What do you think? Could it be a delayed waking from sedation or at this point there is no possibility other than anoxic brain injury? Even though it lasted less than 4 minutes. Please give us your opnion, we don't really know what to do or think, we feel lost and the doctors won't really help. Thanks in advance and sorry for the very long text.

My mom is in the ICU right now. I went to her home and she was extremely confused and didn’t know the answer to easy questions like who is the president. I called a ambulance and she went unconscious in the ambulance, and began seizing. By the time I got to the hospital she was gasping for air and her oxygen was at about 70%... They didn’t ventilate her but did give her a oxygen source. CT scan MRI Bronchio to check for clots were all normal and EKG normal.
They then said the EEG looked like she had taken too much of her pain medication she is on for chronic pain due to being a paraplegic (born with spina bifida) Her upper spine has caused severe pain even after several surgeries.
When they were putting in a central line they nicked her lung and it collapsed.
Thank goodness after 2 days she regained consciousness but she woke up with a slight speech impediment and is hallucinating. I think. She is not the mom I knew and it has me in tears. She is angry and upset because she thinks she’s in the hallway and not a hospital room. She’s upset because she thinks she won’t get fed in the hallway. She’s still very confused. She’s saying horrible things to me and other family members.. Some have left in tears..I feel so bad for her and all I wanted was for her to wake up and embrace her because I was so scared. However she woke up and she’s not the mom I knew.
I’ve never ever seen my mom this upset angry and mean in all my life.
Can u plz explain what may be going on and if she will recover or will this be a long process.

Patrik I know this post is kind of long but please hear me out I'm a frustrated young man trying to solve a curse that i have been born with. I am currently 24 years old and I believe I suffer major cognitive deficits dealing with processing, speed, and focus. Medically termed Inattentive ADHD and some might say Sluggish Cognitive Tempo. Let me give you the backstory of why I believe I developed this life altering problem. My mother had a mild form of Rickets when when a toddler but was eventually healed by my grandfather taking her outside everyday to get some vitamin D. But I believe she suffered long term effects because I believe she has a defected (small/narrow) pelvis (She is also only 5 foot btw). And when I was born I went into fetal distress. My mother was in labor with me for 3 days before eventually I went into fetal distress and I believe I suffered from Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, which is why I believe I have these cognitive defects to this day. The maximum my mothers cervix would open up was 3 centimeters. I believe I was to big to fit through her Pelvis which is why her cervix was never really opening up. I went into fetal distress and my heart rate started to go way down I believe this is when the Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy happened and I was deprived of oxygen. When all this was happening my doctor was absent and they were waiting for him to come even for my EMERGENCY C SECTION. He was completely incompetent! When he did show up to perform the Emergency C Section my mother said he was sweating like crap and took forever to complete the c section she doesn't remember exactly how long but she guessed 30mins to an hour. When I came out I didn't cry and my mother said i looked pale and exhausted .They kept slapping my butt and eventually i did have a little cry. But no action was taken and I was treated like a normal baby no cooling blanket none of that I'm not to sure if they had that back in 1993 though. The sad thing is everyone thought I was fine and but I believe I did suffer delays because of it. I got left back a grade in first grade I was always day dreaming or like my teacher would say out of space. I was always lacking to my peers and could never remember the lyrics to songs even my favorite ones. My little sister is way different from she has remarkable memory and good processing but she had a planned C section because her doctors knew there were complications with me. I was always the worst student I would never turn in my assignments my papers were all over the place, always disorganized just brain scattered. And Im still like this to this day. I never really got diagnosed with inattentive ADHD until I was 18 but I never connected the dots to my moms pregnancy until of recently especially with my mothers rickets. Its sad to think of the mishandling of this whole situation I have to pay for it my whole life, it has impacted life in every way possible. But anyways what I want to ask you is if i get my brain scanned (which i still haven't) for brain damage caused by Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy would it show because this happened 24 years ago. Is it possible they can find evidence of a TBI from the scan? Because this is all theory but i really believe its true and i want to know the truth. And also in this video you said the damage is irreversible but do you believe maybe stem cell ( I know sounds extreme) could help in a case like this? Or maybe Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy which is less extreme? Btw I live in Atlanta Georgia and its to late to pursue anytime of legal action the statue of limitations has ran up smh. If you do reply to this I truly thank you for any advice you offer.

I had a brain hypoxia injury. Ever since then I have a high pressure headache. Could this be coming from this or something else? Is this common? My cognition seems to be alright.

I got covid a yr n ahalf ago was at 40% Oxygen not what o2 I was on but when they ck to see your level is. Well it was that low for almost a day I believe. Was mediflited to a better hospital and at 2 am put on a ventilator. Luckily I was unconscious most of the next 14days when they started weening me off. The 1st memories I had were like nightmares continuing till finally could figure out reality from the nightmares. Had to move in with my son cuz I couldn't take care of myself. After a year I am home but not yet the me I remember. Have 2 force myself to shower and then only once a wk. Thank God I have a 17 yr old son that helps some. But he will only b here till he graduates HS . Question is will I get any better closer to normal???😢

Is that the same as anoxic brain injury?

    • @INTENSIVECAREATHOME
      @INTENSIVECAREATHOME  Рік тому +1

hypoxic injury occurs when the brain is still able to receive some amount of oxygen, but does not get enough. An anoxic injury occurs when oxygen is cut off completely from the brain.

My fiance is in the hospital now , his heart stopped for 10 minutes and was r. But he has blood clots in his heart, lungs and legs. He didn't follow any commands for 5 days. He seems very different, he opens his eyes but it seems like he there but not there. Can anyone please tell me if he sounds like he suffered any brain damage? The doctors didn't tell me if he did or didn't. Because he is unable to get an mri and he is unable to receive the dye for the CT scan because of his blood clots.

This is exactly what's going on with covid patients in big cities this happened to my mom in Nashville the doctor gave me the same Doom and gloom speech and then she told her recovered she was in Corona critical Care unit then they moved her to the critical care unit then they gave us the speech and then a week later they had her in attentive Care unit and then a week after that she got to go to rehab and she's in rehab now and I noticed she had tremors and so I've just been looking into everything I can to find out what causes it

She’s in locked in syndrome my dad suffered the same keep tickling her, play music or something she likes in the background and keep talking memories in the past and what you going to do in the future with her, holidays, travel, family etc if you have any faith raise ur hands and pray to god with a sincere heart that you will change for the good sometimes trials and tribulations occur from god to test us to bring us back to worshiping god sorry I’m not trying to convert you or anything but things happen for a reason in life everything is connected. May Allah (God) make it easy for you and your family and cure your lovely wife. Don’t give up my dad was in a coma for 4 months, the ICU doctors wanted to turn off the life support for him in the first two weeks and we fought in court to save him and by gods wish he woke up himself and all his organs started to work again. Take care.

Hello.. my father had an attack last march 20, 2019. he had a brain hypoxia. he just played basketball when suddenly he had a heart attack (arrythmia). he had no previous medications, he is healthy, doesnt smoke nor drink. he was brought to the hospital with no vital signs. he had his heart beat back 30minutes after the attack. he had been in ICU for 20days.
Now, we are in an intermediate care unit. we are advised to continue medication at home. he no longer need ventillator/oxygen as well as dextrose. however my father is still unresponsive. he can open his eyes and blink but it seems he cannot see us. he cannot speak nor move any of his body. but sometimes when he yawns, he can lift both his hands.... please pray for my father. What can we do in order for him to get better. Please help my family. Thank you very much in advance....
