Hello please keep making these videos seriously no one makes videos of RipStik there are only skate videos help me a lot your videos I really like them. greetings from Argentina
Damn auto-play feature on youtube kept going and i lost everything i wrote. Anyways, man is it crazy to see this for the first time and to hear a name for it. Back when the ripstik had literally hit the market i had discovered this on accident and started basing movements or tricks around it. I would just call it carving back then as i was only like 14 or 15. Basically i ride goofy so my back leg i like to naturally have at an angle where my heal can palm the angle of the board where your resting your weight for the full what id wanna call a 50/50 scraper. With that footing its easy to accidentally or in my case control the drop of that corner and start carving the plastic while following through with the front caster. With just a base amount of speed i learned you can pump off the plastic dropped carve or lets call it 5/0 or quad scrape :P then pump off the front wheel with the right angle that keeps your balance up and you look like your riding the thing completely sideways half on the ground. Eventually i learned how to lower my stance and incorporate a whip of the full 50/50 scraper that i could use for just a brief whip or for a full 180 directional change, and the force of the whip would spring back into a natural pump, i learned how to do a very gradual version of that to get the natural front side scraper or 50/50 carve i like saying, and pop out of that into any of the previous combos. Learning all that made it so i can go into a back side quad carve or front side 5/0 right as im about to stall from lack of speed and then pause myself in a stall with the front caster upright, and with that also be able to start off in that position getting on the board. Basically just would start in a stand still front side scraper/slider that i pop into the front side quad (back leg im talking unless im saying otherwise) and pump straight out into natural carving or any of the variations including this last little one i came up with which is a lot easier if you have an older ripstik as they had weaker torsion bars. What you could do is by having your front foot positioned like the rear leg so that your heal is almost cupping the back edge for grip but your toes are still able to curl up for grip on the other side almost, you get a real whipping control of the front the further back your front leg is positioned so you could even have it just on the board just above the torsion bar mounting. Basically you get into the front side quad slide so back leg is your anchor half the front side scraper is in and then like whipping quickly or widely when pumping from that quad position instead of going for the wide full frontside slides you slap between the a whip to a full frontside slide and use the excess force to aid yourself whipping the front back so that your then pulling and sliding the plastic onto the ground on the back side of the front so essentially it could look something like this. Start in a stall or come to a stall, be in the "quad" or back half front side scrape/slide, bring your front side forward and pump off the back foot slide, pump off the front foot for speed if needed and once again off the back, then whether you wanna do a wide slower whip or a forceful fast slap to a full frontside slide with all your weight on your back foot/anchor you, then use the force from that whip to bring your front side back up and slam it back down to a backside slide with your front leg, and at this point you can continue with whatever, start pulling full 180 sliders, start pumping with the back leg and whipping the front from front side to back side slide for momentum or even transition to a full back side slide, mind you i dont know how the hell to rebalance my weight at that point to get back up without immediately whipping the front back out of the full back side slide with preemptive build momentum to do so so that i can bring the back leg up to a normal stance or continue in a back side 5/0 or back side quad whatever anyone likes or wants to call it. I figured all that out by the time i turned i think 16 or 17 so about a years time after the ripstiks released with just 3 or 4 ripstiks worn down to the bone, i still even have em for parts... I actually have the wave board to thank for getting me into caster boarding to begin with. Ive only recently started doing it all again thanks to my childhood pastime(s) with pokemon now in the form of that additive AR game everyone playing. The only things i wish i could strive for atm is finding a ripstik style board of any kind something that could let me do all these slides and conversions without eating up the plastic, while also learning how to do it on a setup with those inclined 360 degree casters that i can pull 180s with and come out riding switch. Then that would effectively compound the combos of things i could do and mess with. As for just riding around sadly the streets in my neighborhood in LA are so jacked up ive got every variation of every possible fucked up street condition you can think of somewhere in my tiny culdesack of a neighborhood. So i wish a company could come up with some harder wheels than 89a for me as i run through a whole wheel start to finish easily in a casual day of riding not even doing tricks, just hitting up spots for pokemon go. Although it probably doesnt help that im exactly at 220 lbs at 6'3" lol. I prefer running labeda gripper asphalt 80mm 85a wheels on the front and the KSS outdoor asphalt formula 80mm 89a on the back. Im in the process of trying to find ways to mod on slider/scraper plates to give me more durability and god willing less friction on slides, while looking for harder wheels and or better compound wheels, and looking up ways to possibly change and or mod the way the casters naturally work so i can get more movement, speed, control, or hell even get away with 2 second switch stance rides without the board collapsing lol. If anyone reads all this massiveness and is interested in any of this hit me up especially if u have any ideas, ive got tons of tools and am kind of a boot leg hobby guy i teach myself how to do everything im interested in from building computers and rc cars to paintball markers, electronics and general purpose mods/life hack style stuff.
