So now Mopar is king of the blacktop, period. Along with the #1 and 2 hottest street/strip cars on earth, last year ACR Viper set 13 track records. That is more than any car in automotive history, and that is why we always say Mopar or no car
“the problem with these aftermarket intakes is they dyno tune them to prove they make power, I have no doubt that they will make power on a dyno because when a car is on a dyno the hood is open and there’s a big ass fan blowing air over the front of the car. But these open top air boxes seal against the hood when the hood is closed, there is no air getting into the filter when the hood is closed. The hoods on the 2018 and older cars are specifically designed to direct outside air onto the lid of the supercharger to cool it and pull the hot under hood air out of the engine compartment via the dual rear facing vents. Everyone thinks putting an open top air box under that hood is going to make more power but the truth is when the hood is open it works, once the hood is closed you’re pulling that hot under hood air in while it’s trying to escape threw the rear facing vents. Dodge figured out how to squeeze 10 more horsepower out of these cars and that was done by installing an open top air box that seals against the hood then changing the hood to the dual forward scoop and the driver side scoop forces cool outside air directly into the air box. That’s the only way to make one of these work, honestly buying a stock 2019 or 2020 air box and hood would make more power them one of these aftermarket air boxes.”
5th gear and dyno is fine .... the Numbers it makes are irrelevant only thing you should be considering is the difference between stock versus aftermarket air box
Thank you for making this video, as i was just about to spend $425 ( $399 +$26 Shipping) on this intake.. I'm also in Florida, but on the east side... SUBSCRIBED!!!
Yes for a hellcat its best to go stock but on a scat or RT. Even SS or 5.0 the LMI will give you gains over stock. I do respect the time you made for this video
I know that I'm late in the game on this video, but thanks. So grateful that I haven't went out and spent my money on something that doesn't work no matter what the manufacturer of this intake, and the manufacturer other intake systems say about added more HP and TORQUE to your stock car. Thank you very much! I'll be keeping my money and build my own personal air intake system for me Hellcat Challenger. 🙏🏾👶🏿
Thanks for taking the time & effort to do this. If you happen to do something like this aging, do me a favor and please test the Stock air filter vs an aftermarket drop in filter. Thanks in advance if you get around to doing it.
Thats BS man, I different tune would benefit both Stock , and Aftermarket intakes. WHY anyone is Believing the the Hellcat has Bad intake design is DUMB! The car makes 707HP!! Dont you think Dodge engineers solved the INtake Flow issue FIRST thing!! Just because people make aftermarket Parts doesn't mean they are better than STOCK, especially on a very HP car. Capitalism is all about The art of the SELL.
I think the biggest thing that doesn't add up here is why were the pulls done in 4th gear? 6th gear is 1:1. I can't believe how many dyno runs I've watched on youtube that were done in the wrong gear.
JetTech1966 I hear ya. Whether the pulls were done in 4th or 6th gear really doesn’t matter for this test since it will still show a loss or gain in either gear.
Chris Boggs there is a very large fan just off screen in front of that wood platform. You can see it multiple times from the in car camera. C’mon no rookies here.
TrackDay62 I assure you their was a TON of airflow. I know this because when I installed the intake on the dyno the fan was left running to cool things down. Tons of air felt inside the engine bay, outside of the car etc.
JCPhoto If the fan was that far away the vast majority of it would not make its way through the radiator and headlight opening, etc. Ever felt what 100 MPH air feels like? Could you stand up in it? 😉
Assuming the stock paper air filler was utilized, the small HP gain like is from the better breathing air filter, not the design of the intake. A drop-in K&N will add 8-12HP.
Stock is best for a stock Hellcat with no tune for the difference in fuel trims. sitting on a dyno with no airflow. My car makes 17lbs of boost. Do you think the same woll hold true? I hope you dont. The ONLY way to test accurately is on the road or track. Period. Dynos are a good tool, but not the final word on what a part will do. Open element intakes are more susceptible to heat soak as this test shows. Basically nothing proved here other than the LMI made 1 more hp over stock with no tune. Pretty much expected. The most I would think you could get would be 5-7 on most cars no tune unless the factory serioulsy dropped the ball on their intake design. I have a K&N intake and I did not get it for HP. I wanted more blower whine since my Borla Atak drowned out the factory intake. Plus its a fun mod that everyone can do easily. I paid $120 shipped for my used K&N, so definitely not crazy price for what I got.👍 I just bought a used Legmaker. Im going to.compare the 2 and keep whichever one i like the best. Not concerned with static dyno tests😁
For those potentially making a purchase decision based on this video, beware. Something is progressively getting worse after the LMI install. The first pull was right on top of the stock airbox. By the 3rd pull, the HP and TQ were both down from stock. We need to see logs of the adapts and spark timing for a good A-B comparison. Might also be helpful to see the actual curves overlaid. Something is wrong here.
JCPhoto Wow, ok. So you apparently still believe this was a good test. There were outside influences here that you did not measure and they affected the results. That's the definition of a bad test. Good effort, but fail.
@@jcphoto5478 nah after reading the comments on this video and everyone saying its not done right and then seeing a bunch of other vids saying how perfect it is, it puts me right in the middle and ill at least try it when it gets here!
I guess the JLT and AFE are much much better LMI is just more louder and insane I would say but forget performance JLT made 15+ hp i guess tested on dyno
First things off, I'm not hating just my two cents, and btw I am a mechanic. If you look at the numbers, you were better off with the stock filter, you made the most power with that. BUT,,, the reason being is the car was cooler, right after that, pull after pull it started getting slower (HP dropped) I suggest do it again with the new filter with the car cooler, you will get a bit more than the first pull which showed the higher HP with the stock filter. Again I'm not hating. just an opinion.,
LiGhT SPiRiT we cooled the car down to the same temps before we started the pulls with the LMI. Hence why we ran it on the dyno to warm it up to those temps as the fans cooled it down too far while I installed the intake. Numbers were nearly identical for both intakes minus a few degrees warmer and a slight change in humidity.
Absolutely not needed on a stock Hellcat. Good video shows how much you lose with small temp increases. Run it at the track with airflow and post the numbers. That would be interesting. Heat soak on the LMI is obviously worse than the closed box factory unit, but that should have been an expected result. Move some air and let's see the results.👍 Maybe be a loser still. Then again it whips the factory box on sound and looks. Personally 4-6hp is not a deal breaker if you like some sound and looks.

My supercharger is so freaking quiet, im willing to do it just for the noise of it.

Great TEST. You don't make 707HP musclecar without figuring out Airflow First. Mopar engineers know what they are doing.
The whine is soo much louder. The car is optimized very well for the stock intake. Def gonna need a tune to make use of that intake.
Not worth the money/hassle for such a small increase, stock wins IMHO.
Not enough return for the investment. 🙀
Something is not correct here a hellcat take longer than three seconds to do a 6 gear pull? Sound like the dyno is not loaded correctly
Pull was done in 4th gear I think
5th gear and dyno is fine .... the Numbers it makes are irrelevant only thing you should be considering is the difference between stock versus aftermarket air box

Those are high whp numbers on stock. I usually see 630-670 whp....that could be a favorable dyno and outside conditions were almost ideal.
Those are impossible stock dyno numbers

@@jcphoto5478 how did it make 700 power, is this a redeye or is the care tuned?
Air intake upgrades IMO only make the car sound better
That intake is no so much for the hp gains it for the much much louder supercharger whine. yeah yeahhh

Why is this Hellcat making 700rwhp? Nobody seems to ask this question?
Looks to be dyno’d at a lower gear considering the short pulls.
Saved me 500$, thank you!
those stock numbers sound modded...like the tune may not be stock. dynojet numbers vary between 630 and 670rwhp. 700rwhp stock are redeye numbers.
Thanks for doing this comparison video. 😎👍
Thank you !!! Just saved me 500 bucks
Why no fan in front blowing air in to the car car doesn't sit still on the road you would have probably got better results out of stock set up
Chris Boggs there is a very large fan just off screen in front of that wood platform. You can see it multiple times from the in car camera. C’mon no rookies here.
JCPhoto Yes, the fan should have definitely been closer. I doubt much air flow except for radiator fan was even making it through the compartment.

JCPhoto Ok than Which intake that you use without filter? The stock air box or LMI
d3d3eh the stock box had the factory filter in it. The LMI used the supplied conical filter. Nothing was touched.
