Hi Dani, it is definitely possible to trigger samples in Ableton via the SPD-SX! You can set the trigger options (in Ableton) in a way that if one sample starts and you hit a pad in the meanwhile the other sample will start after the end of the first one. However, I think it's much easier to just load in all the samples in the SPD-SX and start a sample immediately after playing a pad. But; everybody has it's own ways, right? If you've any more questions, message me! All the best, Lars
It's difficult to say; they are both really great instruments! The thing is that I use both instruments in a different setup.. If you want to play beats into your laptop I would choose the SPD-30 (because of the many built in sounds). You can also trigger samples that you made in your laptop with the SPD-30 via the usb-midi connection. You can than handle all the FXs like Delay, Echo etc. via your computer. Before you buy anything; go to a Roland dealer, because they can definitely help you!
Can I ask if you could give a few details about your setup? I really want to use the spd-sx and spd-30 but I'm really new to the electronic side of things. What kind of software are you using and how have you connected it all together?
Hi Lars, thanks for your answer ! but my question is in fact the following: Has the SPD-SX any mode to launch its internal samples as Ableton does (one sample begins not when you hit the pad, but after the end of the actual pattern)? My idea is to connect my Korg Electribe MX, with my Roland SPD-30 (in phrase loop mode, with record and quantize active) and the SPD-SX. All of them running in sync via MIDI with the Korg's midi clock, in order to have a perfectly syncronized electronic set. Thanks!
If you had to chose only one.. Would it be the SPD-SX or the SPD-30(Octapad)? I recently sold my acoustic drum kit and looking for an add-on to create music with laptop
Hi lars. Can you tell me if it's possible to launch samples/loops in spd-sx as it is in Ableton Live?..... When a loop is running and you hit a pad, the sample in that pad wait until the end of the pattern to sound??? Thanks in advance. (Dani, from Argentina)
Hi! I like this track. The Uterpy link doesn't work. Do you have the mix available to download/purchase in aiff or wav format? i like to keep my tracks in as high quality as possible. Last resort would be 320kbps MP3. Thanks and take care.
Hi Dany, Unfortunately the SPD-SX is not able to change the launch modes. So a sample will only play whenever you hit a pad. Second; it's a great idea to connect the SPD-SX, SPD-30 and the Korg with each other! However, the SPD-SX isn't great with external MIDI-clocks (I've tried this several times). The SPD-30 is much easier to sync with a midi clock, though. Still, I advice you to try it yourself and see if the SPD-SX responds to the MIDI clock of the Korg. All the best, Lars
Hey man, really good job! I need some advice and it'd be awesome if you could help. I am thinking of buying one of these, but can only afford 1, so which one would you recommend? I mainly need to fire off tracks and do some sound effects, as if it was a synth. Any tips? Thanks!
Really nice mate. I'm also thinking about buying this baby to do some semi live mix set, if you know what I mean. Do you sync all your devices in midi with ableton?
madagreement thanks for your message! No I didn't sync my SPD-SX or SPD-30 with Ableton. However I know you can do such a thing. For this video I just put the SPD-SX and the SPD-30 in the same tempo
You are incredible!
Beautiful. Very inspiring.
Very nice well done were are you in the Netherlands
Awesome keep up the great drumming.
Thank you!!
Holy shit, this mix is amazing!

Real cool performance Lars!
What are you using for kick. Is that pluged into the spdsx?
Thx
Phil
So cool, keep it up
Very nice! This video makes me want to do the same thing :D
This is incredible man, congrats!!! Can I ask you something? How do you make the live loops, in ableton live? Cheers!
pobrecito
very good

What kick pedal do you use?

Awesome 👦👏
Really nice piece of music! are you only using internal sounds on your spd-sx in this video?
Thanks! from Holland!
Romper stomper! Love it!
Hi what is the kick pad he is using. Can anyone help please?
It's the Roland KD-9
Hmm, that is strange. My kick pedal is connected to the SPD-SX in this one
It's good to see computer music performed properly ;)
Thank you!

I would go for the SPD-SX! That way you load in your tracks/effects into the machine and you're ready to go :)

Thanks!
vsts from laptop ? midi connection?....this is cool
please more of this :D
Very inspiring! Are you using the SPD-SX as a MIDI Controller for Ableton, or just doing Audio In to your computer via Ableton?
hey man, cool mix, but i have a question. are you using the spdsx as a midi controller to ableton?
good! from brazil!
you use Ableton for producing this samples?
Can you give us wav files?
thanks
how did you record this?
hey
What software you used to connect the spd sx to your computer?
ableton live
Is eigenlijk meer mainstream techno. Maar echt wel supervet. Beetje stijl van Paul Kalkbrenner lekker duister.
Did you make the samples yourself or used a library?
dude this is dope
Zalig maat !!!!!
Ga is ff heel snel uploaden jij! haha :P Grapje
Ik ook hoor :O Drum Examen gehaald!
sweet!
nice
Ha, bedankt man!
Good job ;)
COOL ........NO BULLSHIT.
Yeah,, I know; I had a bad hair day :)
