    I had a 1980 Golden Hawk CJ-7, wish I kept that jeep!

My older Brother had a 82 Golden Hawk CJ-7 in perfect condition. He sold it because it had the 4 banger in it, the old GM Iron Duke, and it struggled getting up a hill in 4th gear at 70. I wish I had have bought it from him, it would have made a great Jeep to swap a V8 into.

@@3rdpig I had the straight 6 cylinder, I wish it had the v8, but the 6 was decent enough

@@3rdpig I remember driving home one evening on the highway, the radiator hose blew and it over heated. One by one, about 8 Jeeps pulled over to lend assistance. I think I was the only guy with a tie, They duct taped the hose, and filled the radiator with water, they all seemed to have 1 piece of the puzzle each. They wouldn't take anything for helping either, and that was in Chicago, Was able to drive home and drive a couple more days while I ordered parts and stuff. I have a Jeep Liberty today, around here its no longer like that it seems, they don't even wave 🖐anymore, or they don't know about that.

    Chuck.
I have a nice 1980 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade and I'm replacing the cables but need to lub the cable levers.
What lub is best for the heater levers? Should I just spray them with silicone spray?
My heater is in fairly good condition and just need some lub to help the doors move.

I used motorcycle cable lube spray for my cables since I had some. I kind of like a spray lube that sprays thin so it can run into places but congeals into a grease so that once it runs in it doesn't easily run or get washed out. I used to use something called HHS 2000, but it got so expensive I quit buying it. Cable lube is cheap, easy to find locally and works pretty well. For the levers I used Lucas Xtra Heavy Duty grease. I'm a big believer in Lucas products, but I suspect any good, thick grease would be fine on the levers including the synthetics. One of the problems with the heater and air box doors is that stuff gets into the boxes through the cowl vent and can't get back out and then gets stuck in there and trapped around the door area. About the only way to fix that is to pull the boxes, which is a PITA, but you'll end up doing it sooner or later to replace the blower motor or heater core.

put a valve in the lines and shut off the hot watter in the summer time and you wont have the heat thats comeing out of the heater box then...
