    The most honest and accurate read for how original Filmation He-Man ended is either the conclusion of the He-Man & She-ra: Secret of The Sword movie, a 90 minute theatrical movie ( the only animated MOTUPOP movie to date on either side of the franchise ), which clearly and smoothly transitioned from a He-Man to a She-ra focus in the exact shared continuity ( when He-Man tells She-ra if she ever needs him to call and they bid emotional farewells, he might just as well have been talking to all of us fans ), OR, it's The He-Man & She-ra Christmas special. I think, taken logically, the Christmas Special OVERWHELMINGLY wins as most fitting and best candidate, not only because it can be chronologically placed fairly late in the combined 217+ episode + movie original He-Man & She-ra run with blatantly notable sequence markers ( Modulok has already left Skeletor's service for Hordak's, Castaspella [ with She-ra and Bow's help ] has already vanquished her former captor Mortella, Flutterina has been introduced etc. ] ), but ALSO, because it has one of the most significant major character developments and growth transitions ever in either series: Skeletor, the most wicked of the villains, has a transformative Spiritual experience in his encounter with the Christmas Spirit, and actually begins to exhibit compassion and goodness. If placed at the very end of the combined He-Man & She-ra series ( which, since they 100% share continuity is how they should always be regarded ), and there really isn't any glaring event contradiction to stop it from being placed there behind Attack on The Hive, it serves as a strong narrative final ( despite the campy issues ), with the long feud between Skeletor and the power twins, He-Man especially, possibly ending with Skeletor beginning to change for the better ( morals wise, not entertainment wise lol ).

      You do make a very good argument that the Christmas Special is indeed the "final chapter" of the classic series. You are certainly not the only person who thinks that, too. @@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 Thanks!! I just checked out the review of the Christmas special, it was quite amusing. I was trying to leave a comment, but my slow desktop was being a jerk, so I'll try again later. An fyi for your co-host, She-ra had two seasons ( technically one and a half ) not 1, though I understand the 2nd season only aired in the US, not the UK. It's worth the watch though, even if only for the Sweet Bee's Home episode where Frosta literally spends much of the episode trying to give da booty to He-Man ( and by "da" booty, I do mean hers lol ). The third to last episode of the 2nd season marked the last original era Filmation appearance of both He-Man and Skeletor. For a full rundown of every episode, I strongly recommend James Eatok's He-Man and She-ra the complete episode guide ( it's available from amaz0n online bookstore ): it sadly shortchanges the He-Man & She-ra Secret of the Sword movie in that it doesn't make clear that it was indeed a nationally circulated theatrical film, but the book is still a great episode reference for all 218 episodes of the combined He-Man/She-ra series run. P.S., your Merlin costume is epic. Loved that Excalibur movie.

    Would it make sense that Teela would be upset to learn that Adam and He-Man were one in the same? Sure. If she's catching feeling for one half of the dude's identity and he's reciprocating that affection, it would be pretty scummy for him to keep her in the dark about his true identity.
    However, that was not the case in Revelations. Teela being mad about being left out of a secret is one thing; renouncing her position in the kingdom over it and berating everyone in the throne room (including grieving parents) over this secret is something else entirely. (the only way that hissy fit would have made any sense would be if she did that because she felt her father being exiled for failing to protect Adam was completely unjustified).

    • @starsiegeplayer
      @starsiegeplayer 3 роки тому +36

      Yeah. Teela's actions are that of a spoiled child, not a "strong female character."

    • @joshdillon9637
      @joshdillon9637 3 роки тому +33

      Not to mention the secret comes from her Prince, who she works for, who doesn't owe her his secrets. Duncan and Orko were also ordered BY THEIR PRINCE to keep the secret. Teela is completely unbearable throughout the entirety of the show and not just here, though.

    • @madamefluffy4788
      @madamefluffy4788 3 роки тому +17

      @Grumpy Panda Oh, by all means - point out what factors I missed. Because from what I've seen, it was all because she was left out of a secret very few people knew about and those that had known were sworn to secrecy.

    • @madamefluffy4788
      @madamefluffy4788 3 роки тому +17

      @@joshdillon9637 Oh, for sure. Her arrogance even before she threw her hissy fit about being 'lied to' was just hard to listen to. And the fact that arrogance only grew over the years just made her even more insufferable (her one liners are no better than He-Man's '20 something teenager who doesn't get out much' quips).
      Sarah Michelle Gellar's snotty teenage girl voice just made Teela that much more insufferable (but then, if they were aiming to make Teela an arrogant teenager in a grown woman's body who's high on her own farts, then she was a perfect cast for the role).

    • @madamefluffy4788
      @madamefluffy4788 3 роки тому +26

      @Grumpy Panda The problem is that Teela never addressed that - either the moment when it happened or years after the fact. All Teela was focused on was how 'everyone' lied to her because they knew something she didn't. The injustice that her father was facing - being striped of his title, and banished from the kingdom with the threat of death hanging over his head if he ever stepped foot in the kingdom again - never crossed her mind. It was all about how 'she' was betrayed, how everyone lied 'to her' (Adam being the worst of the bunch).
      There is nothing remotely grown up/mature about a grown ass woman renouncing her position all because her feelings got hurt. That's not female empowerment, that's misogyny.

      You're not the first person to say that, funnily enough. What an odd way to end both He-Man and She-Ra that would be! With Skeletor doing something heroic for once, and Adam getting dressed up as Santa! Perhaps I will cover the Christmas Special in a future episode ...

      @@jessev2000 EXACTLY. The original He-Man & She-Ra cartoons should be taken as one massive entity & franchise> He-Man literally continued forward on the She-Ra show. He featured as a major lead alongside She-ra in nearly 20 of the 93 She-ra episodes ( if you include the 5 that were a retread of the movie... & just the movie itself HAS to count as also part of the original He-Man, especially since it's the only movie the animated series ever had [ not ignoring the Langella/Lundgren He-Man, but that wasn't part of the cartoon series ], and it made over triple the production budget AND made more than the now classic original Transformers movie ), with Skeletor featuring in several others that He-Man isn't in. All told, roughly 25% of all the original She-ra cartoon episodes prominently included either He-Man and/or Skeletor.
      My suggestion to EVERYONE: because Dreamworks ( which will own all things He-Man & She-ra in just over a year ) looks at numbers, likes & dislikes... & runs THIS ua-cam.com/channels/WV0Qgo4Yz7E5_oNF4VJ6Rg.html youtube channel full of the He-Man & She-ra content they already own: HURRY over to the above link, & LIKE the ORIGINAL He-Man&She-ra Secret of The Sword Movie: ( linked here: ua-cam.com/video/iuscDdtxIQs/v-deo.html ). Watch it on the Peacock cable streaming channel too ( owned by Dreamworks parent company NBCUniversal & Comcast ) and LIKE it there too!! Tell all your friends to do the same.
      Go back to the youtube channel ( ua-cam.com/channels/WV0Qgo4Yz7E5_oNF4VJ6Rg.html ) and LIKE the He-Man& She-ra Christmas episodes, the one in the She-ra playlist ( ua-cam.com/video/n6eURjXDv44/v-deo.html ) AND the one in the He-Man playlist ( ua-cam.com/video/pJgeO2wL8zE/v-deo.html ). Then go through on youtube AND on PEACOCK and like every She-ra episode where He-Man or Skeletor make a major appearance: ( there are about 20, totaling roughly 25% of all the og She-ra cartoon episodes ), and LIKE them too ( I'll edit this later to give a list of some of them, among them are "Sweet Bee's Home" wherein og adult lady Frosta keeps trying to give He-Man da booty, The Eldritch Mist [ wherein Castespella does the same ], King Miro's Journey, where Adam/He-Man & Adora/She-ra get a visit from their grandfather, My Friend, My Enemy, where Catra plots with Skeletor to overthrow Hordak, Of Shadows & Skulls, where Shadow Weaver plots with Skeletor... to overthrow Hordak, Gateway to Trouble [ wherein Modulok defects from Skeletor to Hordak ], LooKee lends a hand, The Price of Freedom, and Assault on The Hive ), & tell your friends to do the same. Share the liked episodes on your facebook & your twitter etc, and TAG @ Netflix, Dreamworks, Mattel AND NBCUniversal while you're at it. THAT is one of the best ways to let the studio heads and suits know, what fans WANT is an epic, updated, art, visual effects & scripting update & expansion of the OG He-Man AND his TWIN sister She-ra TOGETHER, with the WHOLE old school Masters&Princess cast ( Skeletor, Sy-Clone, Beastman, Hordak, Grizzlor, Catra, EVERYBODY ). Just drive the numbers of views & likes on the old school content UP, UP UP, WAY OVER the new sh*t. That will help them get the right message.

    I always remembered Teela as being this animal loving druid like character. I have pretty clear memories of her hanging out in some kind of enchanted garden and having a staff as a weapon. The toy certainly comes with a staff but, I don't know that I can trust my memories anymore. But, that was the big problem I had with the new Masters of the Universe cartoon. They seemed to completely change Teela into this other character.

      Yes, Teela would never act the way she does in Revalations as she did in the show as she had no character. She was literally the token female. Seriously, that was her sole purpose of being in the show. Go watch Spector Creative's videos. He was on the literal team that created some of the He-man characters for Mattel.
      The Teela toy was simply a retooled Evi-lyn model added because the good guys needed a girl character that the potential female buyers could identify with.
      This implication of "I'm a big fan of the original," has the exact same energy as the people who bashed She-hulk as a "woke" invention of a gender inverted Hulk meant to speak to women. They were huge fans of the Hulk yet were completely unaware that the character has a 40+ year publication history and was created simply as a way to copyright protect a female Hulk from DC. I'm I only saw a few episodes of the cartoon and mostly read the comic where Teeela had an actual personality aside from "token girl" and what you say is only technically correct as it completely ignores the context of her acting the way she did in the 80s cartoon.
      The invention of She-hulk is literally the exact reason that Circuit Breaker, which Marvel invented for the Transformers comic, showed up on a single page between dimensions where she spoke to The Beyonder as means for Marvel to copyright the character in case they lost the license and she would become in the ownership of Hasbro.

      Actually, for MYP series there were no plans for 4th season. This was confirmed by comic creators in 2007 who worked closely with cartoon folk.
      There are only plans that 200x creators had for season 3.
      Nowhere have 200x creators stated they were going into NA territory. There is actually interview online still, where in 2005 they stated they wanted to keep things on Eternia. As fans DID ask why they didn’t venture to space.
      You may be referring to Spector. Who made up his own story for classics (2008). In THAT new story. He added the idea of He-Man going to space. The point was to mishmash many conitinuities and canons. And well…. It became the mess of a story it is (Mattel themselves even ignored classics narrative. And made totally different comic stories in 2012-2016.)

    He-man was a recurring character in quite a few episodes of She-ra, Starting with the Secret of the Sword (pilot movie) and ending (if I remember correctly) with the Christmas Special. He-man and Skeletor continued there battle, with team ups with She-ra and Hordak and even Horde Prime. I didn’t realize it was a prequel (as a late introduction of the events before the show). I’d always assumed the movie came first, then was syndicated into its 5 episodes. It’s not as if the plot of the show is hard to follow, but I imagine it was strange for the it to just jump in without context. The same year that movie came out, She-ra got her own show too! I would have been cool with it all had Smith been honest and said it was a series about Teela.
      I'm an 80s kid and Teela was kickass!!
      A show based around her was a great idea. And the series was pretty good. But it was a dishonest trick and not what the hard core fans were pied pipered into expecting.

      The 200X was a soft reboot. It kept the tone and feel of what you knew, but expanded on the lore. Sadly it ended before the invasion of the Horde, and the New Adventures were supposed to be re-done after that. (Thank God we didn't get that far with it) Revelations, IMO has nothing to do with any of it. Teela was on the way to being Sorceress (fun fact Man-at-Arms was supposed to become a Snake Man for good in the 200x series so he could build vehicles for the Snake Men (always thinking of the toys first), and the Sorceress was going to die in the third season bringing Teela to her rightful mantle.) In all honesty, if you want a GREAT continuation to conclusion to the series, MotU comics by DC in the late 2010's picked up the torch and ran with it. Took it to a fantastic conclusion. The reason the series never had a proper ending is because Filmation (the company that produced the cartoon) was bought out by L'Oreal, and they literally fired the entire staff in one day. Members of the production team would later say in interviews that they 'just walked in one day and told us to put down our pencils and get out'. Apparently this was one day before a law would be passed requiring sixty days' notice before a mass termination.

    Even though I believe it was released about mid way thru the run, my head canon had the final episode of the original series as "Evilseed", where He-Man and Skeletor are both faced with an enemy that neither can challenge on their own. After agreeing to work together, Skeletor's attitude remains hostile, but the dynamic of their relationship had changed from purely antagonistic to mutually respectful. Would have been a nice capper to leave the show with the possibility that its greatest villain could be redeemed and was worthy of said redemption.

    2002 series does establish that the elder gods separated the planet into light and dark dimensions, separated by a wall.
    Skeletor breached the barrier along with his minions and quickly seals it.
    This is because skeletor is selfish.
    This is the reason why the masters don't eliminate skeletor because they are able to deal with him.
    King hiss was very easily able to get rid of skeletor and nearly took over eternia.
    Hordak was trapped in dark dimension and when skeletor was dying he wished for a price, which the dying keldor agreed. However skeletor had no intention to keep his word and he actively prevented hordaks return.
    Skeletor loosing and king hiss defeated, hordak finally could have been able to beach the barrier along with his minions.

      The new show has definitely divided the MOTU fan base. I really don't think that it is as bad as what a lot of people are making it out to be, but there are a few points where it could have been a lot better. I feel that Teela's motivations could have been written to be more clearer, she does come across as whiny and cold hearted and it took a couple of episodes for me to warm to her. I also feel that this could have been marketed better to make it clearer that this is Teela's adventure, not He-Man's!

      @@TheBigDaddyDReviews1 MotU was branded as a He-Man line since the 80's. If you took Barbie, killed her off and made Ken the show runner, you better expect the backlash. MotU is an ensemble cast, yes, but the power sword belongs to one person, that's why people don't want anything to do with it. Teela's arc would have made a great story, if she were likeable, but she's not. She loves Adam, and wants to know why he didn't tell her. She's just proving that she was never worthy of the truth to begin with. (again, which could be a great story arc) The story just isn't being told well. The Randor / Duncan thing is so unbelievable it hurts my brain to think about.

  • @SBaby

    I don't consider the Netflix series to be canon for a few reasons. First of all, many of the characters act completely out of character to how they were in the original. Second, the need to focus the show on Teela shouldn't exist if the creator knew anything about the source material (Kevin Smith has gone on record to say that he didn't know anything about He-Man going into this, and just claimed he did in order to get the job; future production companies, beware of this person).
    And finally (though this isn't necessarily their fault, but it is the most important reason), She-Ra isn't mentioned at all, even though she's He-Man's sister, and Hordak and Horde Prime are known threats to the universe and have directly attacked Eternia. For a new series to be canon, ALL of this would have to be acknowledged and be actively involved in any kind of continuation. If it isn't, then this can't possibly be canon, regardless of what Kevin Smith or Mattel claim. If they claim this is canon, then they don't know He-Man.

      Frankly, no new He-Man show that ignores She-ra's existence is canon to me, and no She-ra show that, like Hordak, tries to make everyone forget that she has an epic TWIN brother, can be cannon either. Hopefully, once NBCUniversal/Dreamworks have ALL the rights in 2023 ( currently they only have rights to the Filmation content, while Mattel only has rights to content based on the toys ) we will finally get PROPER continuation of the greater, unified He-Man & She-ra mythology.

    • @gibranlewis7300
      @gibranlewis7300 3 роки тому

      @@peterullinger2814 for reasons no one really explains, Mattel has done a pisspoor job of exercising their rights to She-ra... they don't have to use Filmation content for her, their own 1984 minicomic, The Story of She-ra ( He-Man.org has images of the whole book ), which they packaged with the original She-ra toy, predates the release of the Filmation He-Man & She-ra movie & of the subsequent She-ra cartoon, and it already establishes her as He-Man's sister ( which she was pretty much from the start of her character conception ) and the Hordak abduction.

    To be honest, when I watched it as a girl in the 90s. He-man and the masters of the universe was actually reworked into a continuity that made more sense. Granted, I was watching it in Cartoon Network back when Cartoon Network played the old shows and had cartoons actually worth watching. But they had reworked it into a series that made sense with The Problem with power as the final show episode. In fact, I watched the 2000x show and the original show after in Boomerang, again back when Boomerang was also worth watching and they actually made sense like they fit together and were showing a real continuity to the show which was actually the intent in the first place. I know they said that it was both a reboot of the show and also a prequel but I actually understood the reasoning. The 80s show had almost no background where the 2000x show actually fleshed out the series into what would be a compelling story today with well fleshed out characters. They stayed true to the source but rebooted it to being a fleshed-out tale instead of a long toy advertisement like the 80s show, while still being tied to the 80s show
