Congress recently had a hearing about A.I. and they had used There I Ruined It's Johnny Cash Barbie Girl video. He had made a video about it and his process. He sings the verses and overlays the A.I. voice over it. It seems to be more human input than plug and play like most may think.
That’s probably why it is excellent! He takes the time.
This is the key- someone actually has to sing the song in the style of the original artist and do a good enough job with it that AI can just impose the original voice onto it. The plug and play AI songs just sound wrong.

Seriously, that Johnny Cash one gets me all the time. Well put together with three songs in a style that feels like his spirit is letting us know. Thing is, I can picture him doing this at a show for the lolz, too.

@@redhen2123i give the labels 2 years to understand A.I. is created for parody and creativity. I have 8 models trained. I don't post them all over the internet but one of friends actually asked my permission to clone my voice to sing with an a.i. of Reese Witherspoon and an A.I. of musician that is longer around.
Honestly, I don't think singers are going to be replaced. There's one huge thing which is: Live concerts. There is literally no way to do that with generated concerts, unless you just set a laptop on stage and play the song over the PA, but that sounds boring. Having the band on stage playing and singing is half of the fun of the live shows.
The Gorillaz have been essentially doing this for 20 years
I mean, there was a Hatsune Miku concert a few years back where there was a hologram*, and iirc Snoop Dogg had a Tupac impersonator film for a Tupac hologram*. Were you to have a CGI Johnny Cash "singing" AI covers of songs, you could definitely have a concert, but I imagine for a lot of people it would feel really fake.
Like, pragmatically I agree. People probably won't fork over any appreciable amount of money for AI CGI concerts, not only because it feels fake for the most part, but as far as using dead peoples' likenesses, it feels real easy to slide into creepy territory. I mean, the first Tupac hologram was magical even to me, who's not really into rap. But if it became a regular thing it would be very uncomfortable to a lot of people. And on top of that, the legalities of doing this with someone who can't even consent to it, like because they're dead, seems treacherous to say the least.
That's not to say it'll never happen. There's precedent, and while it seems pointless to me, I could see it being a big thing 50 years down the line, assuming we're even still doing concerts by then.
*If I recall correctly, it's a projector aimed at glass, but from the videos I saw, it looks shockingly 3D.
Huge EXACTLY. Nobody's gonna pay $300 to stare at an empty stage and listen to some fake voice. Mention of gorillaz and Snoop Dogg, tsss, we're talking about mainstream music artists as a collective.

A lot of artists will have a body double and they just lip sync and the audience can't tell. It doesn't happen as much anymore because of social media and the internet. But in the 90's. An artist will be doing a show overseas and a show in the usa at the same time. One is real. one is a lookalike.

I think the future of AI music is when it lets anyone create new music with a unique voice. It will be like image generation, but for music. We'll end up hearing lots of terrible music for sure, but also a lot of really great AI generated original music.

There's quite a bit of difference between various creators of AI music recreating old authors. It really depends on how well the AI is trained and whether the person putting the things together knows what they're doing or not. For now, it's still harder to make a decent sounding music using AI compared to just using a real band. But AI is quickly evolving and it's definitely the next big thing. After all, just a few years ago AI art was nothing but drug fueled fever dreams that can't get anything right and look at it now. I even remember how someone said that doing believable AI voice would take decades. And I think it was like tops 8 months after that statement when that part of AI began to get real good and we've even seen first rudimentary moving pictures.
The fact this technology is really good is what's scary about it. It sounds good, it sounds convincing, I could see this technology being a real force in music going forward.
Like, I listened to Frank Sinatra singing the theme to Evangelion. It sounded fantastic. This technology really is going to change the world.

From an update from the artist. If I understand it. There I Ruined It themselves sings the song and then puts an AI voice over it. It is not an text to voice thing atleast.

Nobody on UA-cam has a bigger collection of colabs with artists than him (that includes Zendaya, Victoria Justice, Against the Current, Christina Grimmie (RIP), Madilyn Bailey, Sam Tsui, etc…)… He is the master of music videos, instruments, one take ideas…

It’s really good when there were old and/or bad clips of the artist to make it better, but new songs, i don’t know, what if you find new written songs of an artist what he not recorded, the music industry will sell it for profit but the Fan, what will he find of it, a.> not the real singer, b.> more music of his/her favorite singer.

TBH the AI cover of Sinatra in the Neighborhood is a "it could have been" but wasn't and it's too bad it wasn't.
AI will not replace actual artist there are limits on what AI can do you looked at a few good ones not all of them are good a lot of them have errors that don't sound good plus many more things I think people get confused between the differences between a real artist and AI, you can give a prompt to an AI and it only can do so much and somethings it just can't do but that same thing easily could be done by a real artist sure it would take longer and be more expensive but your paying for their talent and their time plus it's always going to look better.

Media corporations reboot/resurrect IPs all the time. trampling on the graves of their creators. Star Trek, Star Wars, all the reboots/retcons. If they can get away with crapping all over the classics, Then we can use AI to create our own versions. When They stop rebooting/retconning swapping the classics. Then maybe the industry wouldn't be a bunch of hypocrites complaining about AI taking away their jobs.
The guy sings the track and then modifies the track to sound like another singer, what's the difference between that and autotune or someone who's an impersonator of a particular singer singing a cover version that person never sang in IRL. Making a track that sounds like an artist and passing it off as that artist is theft , this type of parody isn't.

AI covers are very clever..and more than a little worrying. But the ones that are sung the way the singer would have actually done it..next level stuff.

I think this is a good reaction that brings up solid points. But for me personally, I have to draw the line at depicting artists in such a way they never, ever would have been in life. Johnny once said he always wanted to record a rendition of “I Fought The Law”. But there’s no chance he would’ve gone anywhere near a tune like “Barbie Girl”, which to me has to be kept in mind.
I'm sure Johnny had a sense of humor. Some people take themselves too serious.
